Jokes on you if nobody has children and God does 1 corinthians 15:38. Short of killing all Christians and then tracking all humans on earth from birth to the grave for signs of being a Christian you will fail. Even then you will fail because Mark 13:20. So may God rebuke thee Jude 1:9. But you already thought to have known all this didn't you?

Ugh I am bored, art there no Christians left?

If you want to really wrestle with religion then ignore the YouTube clowns /christian/ posts and start reading real theology and philosophy. I can't really recommend anything in particular. There are thousands of years of this shit. I would recommend the same way I recommend to anyone who wants to understand anything: just dip in. Get a feel for it. Don't rely on any one text or author or movement. Get a picture of the whole thing but not compulsively, just keep adding pieces to the picture as you read things you're interested in. Start with the Greeks. Read articles about theodicy and theologians on the plato.stanford website. Augustine, Pascal. Modern ones like Teil Chardhin, Joseph Ratzinger. religious analytic philosophers like Elizabeth Anscombe. People of unorthodox theological disposition like Spinoza or Simone Weil. Personal lives of mystics like Saint Therese of Lisieux or St. Francis. A whole world anon.

<philosophy

Colossians 2:8

>Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the traditions of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ

459efa No.534172

>>534166

An admirable passage, one of many. My only gripe is that, as far as I know, the letters of the Bible too are nothing but the writing of men. I should not wish to be made captive by them, as many of you have, if it's also just the vain philosophy and tradition of men.

Don't take offence at that. It's not that I believe the scriptures cannot be true. Rather, I have no reason to believe they are. I can't just accept the system because the system from within itself tells me to, I would have no way of knowing whether I am really getting closer to the truth, to God, or to just the frail, deceptive writings of men.

6b05ce No.534195

>>534172

<Rather, I have no reason to believe they are.

See Romans 10:17

>So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

<writings of men

You mean written down by men and inspired/authored by God? See 2 timothy 3:16

>All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

<I would have no way of knowing whether I am really getting closer to the truth, to God

See Matthew 7:15-20

>Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

>Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

>Even so every good tree bringeth forth good gruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

>A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit

>Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

>Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

<Don't take offence at that.

I do take offense to that. Because if the Bible is not true what basis is there for the Christian faith? None. So stop profaning what God says in your mind. His word is above His name after all.

Psalms 138:2

>I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.

>thy word above all thy name

459efa No.534252

>>534195

>So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

What if it doesn't? How is it meant to happen? Is it a feeling? An emotion? A strong conviction? An idea? A hint to follow?

If you'll pardon my ignorance anon, I've only heard this line of thought from the mouth of Pastor Anderson. It doesn't seem like a real, long-standing doctrine. Perhaps true, but not so literally that hearing verses from the Bible is how you gain faith, like an RPG modifier stat or perk or something. If I don't gain faith from the words, then from what? Perhaps it is all untrue. Terrifying, maybe. But do you value truth?

6b05ce No.534258

>>534252

It's the 1 corinthians 15:44 because of romans 8:1-9 which you can only discern using Matthew 7:15-20. all kjv btw.

0536d1 No.534323

not OP but one of the main reasons I cannot believe is that even though Jesus' divinity is justified through the old testament, him being the messiah and all, the gospels have two separate and incompatible accounts of him being born in Bethlehem as predicted and Matthew even makes up a prophecy that he would be called Nazarene. The contradiction and there being no account in mark in the first place shows or almost proves that Jesus was indeed very unlikely to have been born in Bethlehem. This means he simply doesn't fulfill everything.
