Firstly yes. Making too many assumptions about something is inevitably schizo tier. I wouldn't even describe the line of thinking in terms of spirituality. I think of it rather as gnostic philosophy, which stems from the Greeks, who happen to be very clever bastards with their math, philosophy, founding of democracy, etc.
But as for mind needing basis in the material.. who knows? Mind is nothing but a system of order. Even rocks and dead things exist in some sort of greater order. Electricity flows the shortest route, planets circle stars, and so on.
If you follow that logic, the atrocity is that mind is being held within matter. Bodies don't simply exist side by side in harmony. Everything needs to eat. Everything wants to fuck. The realm of the animal is inherently violent. The Jew wants to be king of the shitpile. Why is it a shitpile? Because the flesh is painful. There is hopefully a better way to exist. That is the crux of the philosophy, as I see it.

True but the thing about science is that we don't "choose" what we want to do with it, we "find" properties and exploits and use that to our advantage.

The thing about science is that we're sitting on mounds of resources that can basically be described as free. Combustion uses free oxygen, which makes something like gas engines doable. All the good organic shit is relatively free, water is free. Energy sources are close to free, seeing as the greenest of power comes from the heat provided by the sun, which is free.
You're going to have to haul most of that shit up there with you, which makes the craft more energy intensive, and so on.
Not to shit on dreams or anything. Maybe a new breakthrough is possible.Maybe we can make a portal to god and punch him in the dick, and usurp his power. Maybe.
