German living in Canada (NL) here (but no visa nor Canadian citizenship).
I want to purchase a few things off eBay from Japan. Just stuff under C$20 that would be shipped in a small package via airmail.

In Germany, you don't have to pay any taxes for stuff under 22€ (~C$30) and the packages usually arrive at your doorstep without needing to drive to the custom office.

So, how are the customs in Canada? Does the package actually arrive at one's address or do you have to pick it up somewhere? And are there any fees?

Thanks!

If you buy things through eBay, brokerage and customs fees are usually added on when you pay.

If not going through large companies, though, you're likely to get a postman at your door asking for a credit card number or cash to release your package.

The last time it happened to me was 20 years ago, and 99% of my mail order comes from eBay, so YMMV.

Sounds good, thank you!
