The sirens call of a new life, of riches, of adventure and prestige has summoned you to the lonesome settlement of Rio Tinto who have been broadcasting advertisements for mineral rights, salvage rights and research and development tax exemptions to any who would call the mineral rich desert world their own and protect the settlement from pirate raids and alien attacks.
And so as the oval dropship rears back into the sky you tune into Colonial Dispatch and begin your new life…

The crew had done this a hundred times, maybe more. Getting a line on the Data Kiosk for that most basic of information they forget to mention which makes all the difference to a professional; making a few adjustments to our machine, a fresh scrubber in the main intake valve, and a quick test run to see how close the nearest watering hole (read Bar) was.
Gobo, Caspen's Dust Ball, Gobo's Raked Rock. They would settle on a more personal name for this place one of these days but it was plain to see that the wind had been scratching this world for so long that it was more dust then rock at this point. Between the thickness of the dust rich air and the proximity of the star it was going to a dry and hot time. They would take a bit off excess armor off of Meg, get the legs tightened and the treads oiled, and set the air scrubbers to MAX.
1 Make adjustments to Meg so she runs optimally on this desert world.

A few spare credits off every scrubber we need is a few credits closer to our own ship.

Fluff: Bubba Jeb and his boys are from a slightly less backwater world. A bunch of industrious busy bodies and visionaries the boys loved the idea of making a mobile, walking city of their own. While they got the walking platform they have now up and running that was as far as they could get before they were basically run off the planet due to the low living space. However, when the open invite to Gobo they decided it was time for a fresh start and took the offer. Willing to use fresh and 'recycled' material for their own purposes and for sale they hope to make their legacy here.

The Forgehomes of the Xth Company are a unique occurrence on the frontier, the only place in the galaxy where self sustainability is valued higher than using the space as well as you can. Similarities can be found between the Forgehomes settled on the frontier, and the Forgeworlds of the core sectors, since they run on the same principles and ideas.
In essence, a Forgehome is a nigh-self sustaining factory, where material goes in and product comes out. No need to expand it, it does that by itself. No need to maintain it, it does that by itself. Housing a complete crew of mechanics and the odd specialists, it should have no problems keeping the factory up and running until the settled frontier outpost is a fully functional city.

It was almost time for the dirty work but a little more prep was needed, Granpappy Paul used to say discretion was the better part of valor and he was living proof. Bobby had his eyes set on the area designated '15.28', he would scout it for the bug burrow clusters, a proper killing field, and a good path for retreat. Of course just blowing them to hell was all well and good but if he could figure out why these places were hotspots and why they burrowed in clusters then he could exploit it. If Bobby had to guess they set up in clusters to protect batches of young bugs, and killing a little bug now could save them a lot of effort later.
They had made the optimizations to Meg; lighter armor, a nice coat of desert camo paint, fresh scrubbers galore. However, if a storm hit and visibility was lost then we might be in a pickle some [Tracer Rounds] for the heavy machine-gun could be useful, plus the bugs might be particularly flammable.

1. 15.28 proves to be typical of the rest of the visilbe wastes, dust and hard packed dirt dotted with large awkward boulders and rocks jutting up from the earth. You find a few lonesome bug burrows scattered about until nestled in a depression several rings of burrows. You see little activity save for a few of the runnerbugs blocking the entrance of a few of the burrows, which upon distant inspection seem to slant toward toward a central imaginary point between the rings. You gain good knowledge of the general terrain and as you return home you note a natural amphitheater like depression not too far away from the primary burrow cluster. As far as you know you went undetected.
2. While at first hesitant to consider the notion, a little buttering up and a report on your adventures in 15.28 soften them up and they defer to your tactical expertise. They agree to the advance with the requirement of providing a receipt. They authorize a smaller then expected advance but explain that they'll eat the shipping costs on this one.

1. SPL 2 in its first run post line commissioning exceeded predicted performance variables coming in under budget in material use, maintenance requests, SCADA demand, time and quality. With a near %99.97 up-time SPL 2 produces the components needed for another complete production line. They would still have to be assembled and commissioned, however.
2. The market survey and analysis team quickly returned with a full 4D presentation. They identified three major growth sectors:
1. Spare parts, components and consumables for the large number of heavy specialized vehicles present in the market.
2. Rail line components for the Union Galactic Railroad as well as construction machinery. There was also room for pre-fab housing contracts.
3. Small but growing needs for environmentally sealed housing and life support systems for the colony itself.
They also reluctantly reported that off-world shipping of finished product would only be marginally profitable until suppliers could be secured for raw materials.

1/2 Battle in 15.28. Once he got down there again Bobby's instincts told him there was something under that imaginary central point, and as for how he was going to open that point? One standard Nuclear Artillery Shell set a the maximum 2 Kiloton yield and then when the hole was opened then for whatever was down there would be the 2 Kiloton Enhanced Radiation Shell right down the throat of this burrower nest. Once everything else was dead they could send some rad resistant drones in to see just what was down there, but lets not get ahead of ourselves. After the big hit we put the pedal to the metal to put some miles on these fresh treads and between me and the poked hornet's nest. Maintaining distance we can pick off the pursuing horde as we dash around the countryside and if need be use the natural amphitheater as a natural obstacle and a tactical boon; If they go around to get me I can pick them off easy, and if they start falling in and they DO go down, well ill just start unloading some lowest yield shells in the nice big targets and the rocky cliffs to crush them and bury them.

As the doors to the pleasure compound swing open and a veritable tide of thirsty, hungry, anxious colonists rushes through the threshold, Dubson watches from his office with his hands behind his back. Soon, he'll be raking in the cash and having his name spoken in every bunk and barrack– as a hero of the people, bringer of libation and indulgence.
If that was to happen, though, there was work yet to be done.
1. First things first, we need to hire some of the burlier, indigent colonists as security staff– or, barring that, order a set of security droids. Either way the compound is definitely going to need a higher standard of security if it's going to be ran smoothly. +Management
2. Dubson approaches some of the senior, off-duty engineers that frequent his establishment in the early days and makes them a deal: if they help him build a state-of-the-art conveyor line to get food and drink to the people as fast as humanly possible, he'll give them all discounts. +Management

1. The Walk'n Rig began its journey. Not a single bug or bug sign to be seen. You begin to wonder what the fuss was all about. You map the area well and your pilots have no trouble getting the feel or the surface conditions.
2. As you enter into the sector you behold a barren, boulder dotted flat land. You initially note some several unusually Barium-rich feldspar surface deposits.

>Morgoth:
1/2. Everything goes according to plan initially. You expertly fire your nuclear payload into a burrow and the depression erupts in a geyser of glass, dirt and dust. You fire your enhanced radiation shell as well into the crater and turn to exit. As you do so the landscape is dotted with runner-bugs emerging from both burrows and the ground itself who begin to pursue you. They are quicker then you expected and it takes significant focus to balance piloting and gunnery. You carryout your plan, drawing them into the amphitheater where you assume the high ground. After only a few nukes the lips and walls of the amphitheater collapse inward nearly taking you with it. The bugs begin to retreat, mostly in the direction of the main burrow circles.
>Curious
1.Your initial survey reveals that 15.29 has LIMESTONE+OIL SHALE deposits underneath it, with this being the pattern throughout the surrounding area. You note concentrations of near surface tunnel networks in areas where bugs have been identified. You note what seems to be a COPPER vein in 14.30 but sudden nuclear detonations to the north dirsupt your N and NE readings.
2. After speaking with the Mayor you are granted a small office tucked into the Small Colony Dome. From here you can feel the pulse of the colony and get a feeling for local going ons.
>Add: [Colony Dome Office] under Compound Type.
>That Guy
1/2/3(Note: two actions only but you got a nice 97 so you get it done): You beam with pride as your workers begin to lay track and wires. The Landing Pad is soon complete but a burst of productivity and good management leads to the Colony Dome connector coming way ahead of schedule. They also connect Forgehome. You receive an award from the Mayor Tinto on behalf of the incredible work you've done.

Fluff: Making a living on blood and steel ain't easy, but Bobby doesn't know any other way. Sometimes a strong word and a gun is all people need to get by but when you need something more you call Big Gun Bobby; on Titan Cento when he was staring down the better half of the Atsuma Red-Opium Gang from behind a barricade made of the lesser half of the Atsuma Red-Opium Gang. Bobby blew through an entire box of depleted-uranium enriched magnum rounds that day and the Titan Cento downtown has never been the same. Bobby came to Rin Tinto with his machine and his crew looking for honest -tax free- work "developing" the land until it was bug free, and buying himself a garage or a ship they can call home.
Forcing the bugs to retreat was a bit tougher then expected, but it turned out alright. Their main burrow should be looking like a glass farm now and all that was left was to send in a fresh scout drone to see the results. Bobby could do it himself but they hadn't applied an anti-rad coating recently. A scout drone wouldn't have any problem going through 15.28 as it was now though they would need to give it a shower when it got back. He could pilot it remotely once the team had her set up and then they would have a strong case for a good payday with results and followup. Chances are he might be able to convince a local prospector to let a drone go for cheap, or some bug killing enthusiast who has a drone hobby; its hard to say exactly what the people around here were into as they had only recently gotten someone to open synth-bar slash holo joint so what they were doing for entertainment around here until then is up in the air.
1 Buy scout drone, have it track the movements of the bugs and investigate the burrow.
Crew Skill [Engineering]
Personal Skill [Piloting]
Personal Skill [Charisma]
2 Buy and apply an Anti-Rad Coating on Meg. A few blasts like that was probably fine, but if they ever got close it could spell trouble for Bobby's swimming team. Disorientation is also a big no no when you are trying to thread the needle in life or death situation so a fresh coat is important, and if he had to go back in to finish the job or grab something that looked important he could. Once the rad-gear merchants knew who was bring them some extra business on GOBO then he could probably count on a discount if not their gratitude.

1. Gather up some of that Feldspar. We can sell it to glass factories and the like. Don't have much use for it ourselves though.
2. Then move North.
