Fluff: From the days long before the floating worlds, mankind and the other creatures of the realm lived below. The world was peaceful and everything plenty, but everything changed when the very beings closest to God dared to challenge him. First among his heavenly host, Faustus dared to challenge the might of the almighty and put himself above God. He was met by the Archangel Decus, commander of the heavenly host, and the two and their followers joined in great battle. The world was torn asunder in their rage; the wrath and destruction killed millions, and entire races and cultures were lost in the flames. The very world was shattered beneath the feet of man, and the crumbling remains kept only aloft by the might beating of the warriors wings. One such remnant on this landmass was the Faithful, those who did not question the will of God even as he permitted his first creations to destroy the very world he cherished. The war ended with the casting down of Faustus to the nether, and his host along with him, barred from returning by magical seal and divine wind alike. This is why no one dare to travel below the cloud layer beneath the continents, otherwise they would fall prey to the vengeful Fallen Angels below. The Faithful adapted to their new lands, embracing the power of the molten rock that flowed from the nearby mountains. A gift from God, dubbed "The Morning Star" the mighty volcano imbued the Faithful with its powers. They took to the land, for it was fertile and blessed by God, and quickly established a Feudal society, where Lords of Fire and Steel guided the Faithful against all obstacles. Life is suffering, the Lord grants us pain to harden us, to temper us, so that we may stand aside him. The armies of the Lords, encased in the mighty metal wrought from the molten rock flowing from the Morning Star, march forth to illuminate the world in the light of the God.

Government: Military Order, A new Supreme Grandmaster of the Orders is elected after the current dies.

Religion: Ymirism, a Duotheistic religion believing in a God of Light and God of Fire. As well as one "Greater Demon" who was responsible for necromancy and blood magic

Fluff: The United Orders was born out of necessity rather than choice. Once a massive horde of undead roamed what was now their home, they were able to set up three forts, one for each order. The forts were named Michael, Gabriel, and Tukor, respective to each Order. It took many years, but each managed to clear out the tainted waterways and began importing supplies from their homeland. This was of course, until the Dread Necromancer Ratvarsi took command of the formerly leaderless undead hordes across the plains. The three Grandmansters, Paul, Philip, and Savoiea, convened in Fort Gabriel to discuss the future of their pseudo-colony, it was decided here that the orders should unite under one banner. The name was then The Unite Knightly Order of St. Raphael, after the unification, every man from the settlements was conscripted and rushed forth to face the Necromancer. They forces of light would triumph, as they often did in tales of old, however this was at a grievous cost, all three of the Grandmasters were killed in action, and the Necromancer escaped. The three were quickly named as saints. This lead to the renaming of the order to its current name and its current tradition of having three Grandmasters under a Supreme Grandmaster.

Fluff: The World Tree is not named such because the world sprouts from his branches, but because he was the first tree to have been born. As he grew his roots spread further and had continued to seed the land with thick vegetation due to his great progenitive ability. All plants can trace their lineage to the World Tree and it is for this reason they owe him their allegiance. The Silvanus were born when a circle of druids ritualistically killed themselves in an act of devotion and had tied themselves directly to the World Tree. Using the power of the World-Tree they were able to fashion new bodies for themselves and from their copulation with one another they have gained enough numbers to be considered a nation. The former druids act as the leaders of the Silvanus and speak with the authority of the World Tree itself to which they refer him as the Verdant Father.

Nation Name: The Aetherial Courts

Race: Aetherials

Starting Location: The Ancient

Religion: Most do not follow a religion.

Fluff: The Aetherials are a race created by those who created the The Ancient. An experiment that finished long after the city was abandoned. The Aetherials are a race that is born as pure magic given a lose form. The Aetherials are born from a large, barely sapient form of theirs known as a Nexus, which produces Seeds. These seeds gather ambient magic until they become full Aetherials, or another Nexus. The form of an Aetherial is bound to magic, and as an Aetherial practices magic the Aetherial is corrupted by it. The Aetherial's form begins to reflect the magic they use, pyromancers resemble fire elementals and diviners becoming glasslike and showing far off places in their form being examples. The more an Aetherial practices this magic the stronger they grow, but the more they are corrupted by this magic.

The Aetherials are divided into Courts, based on what kind of magic they practice, with each giving a representative to a Council of Courts. The Court of the Nexus Keepers are those that do not practice any magic and instead study the physiology of the Aetherials, keep watch over the Nexuses, and teach young Aetherials. The Court of the Nexus Keepers are considered the head of the council and their vote is used as a tiebreaker if needed. Crimes are handled by the Court if the crime was between two members of the same Court, and the Council or a representative if it is between members of different Courts. A new Court is created when a new school of magic is discovered or created.

The history of the Aetherials is short and boring. Recently born to the world they have mainly searched The Ancient for knowledge of magic and other things to sate their curiosity. Being creatures of magic many Aetherials enjoy dissecting the magics they discover to learn how they work, and as such hold no or little reverence for gods or outsiders who have never contacted them.

Government: Best described as a combination of might makes right and deadly decadent court. Byzantium if contracts were literally binding and everyone would flash fry each other for funsies.

Religion: None? I mean is it really religion when you know there are dozens of afterlives and fight most of them?

Fluff: The instability that birthed Ecantus from the planes also left a hole in the astral. A small one, but one exploitable to those that were watching. The Hells are always watching, and waiting.

So were servitors and aspiring champions of DIs the Iron City sent out into this new fledgling world, to judge it's mettle, and invariably to corrupt it.

But things did not go so easily, for the hole was small and thus the alien and malignant intelligences of Hell could only send their weakest and most craven, for now. But things would change, oh yes, things would change.

Government: Oligarchy; 100 liches, greater wraiths, death knights and other high-power undead arranged in a sort of parliament.

Religion: The denizens of Eis Steinhaufen worship Irag, a half-dead god of ice and winter that was, in his heyday, considered the patron god of those who died of exposure or starvation.

Fluff: In ancient times the living dead were harried with great hunting parties of crusaders and witch hunters who would regularly scour the countrysides for any sign of the unholy. Those undead that survived these purges fled to the northeast, settling in the harsh and unforgiving wastes of the northernmost continent. As the centuries bled by more and more undead gathered there, where they ravaged the coasts and ice fields until the strongest and wisest among them, heeding the word of the Gilded Hand, an archlich of incredible power, came together for parley. They agreed to divide the icy wastes into equal shares and work together to build a mighty army and a safe haven for all undead, waiting for the day to come when the sun burns out and the rest of the world is ready to be elevated into undeath.

Government: Seems silly to have a mode of governing over myself, Monarchy, if anything.

Religion: Within these jungles, I am God.

Fluff: A race spawned from a single Queen of unknown origins, who's capable of not only birthing children, but inducing rapid directed evolution in them and herself, and able to assimilate other creatures to aid in this process. Planted not too long ago in the forests of the south-east, they quickly rose to the position of apex predator, and not too long after that dominating the savage jungles and laying down permanent rule. Though they may be traditionally considered a nation by others, their species operates under a hivemind controlled by the Queen, considering her spawn simply extensions of herself, leading to hyper-efficient colonies with no waste.

Colonies often take the shape of heavily exploited landscape, removing all trees and covering the ground in black biomass to catch sunlight and produce the necessary energy for the colony. Specialized workers mill along the underground tunnels, bringing materials wherever needed by carrying them in enlargened stomachs, melting and shaping stone with powerful acids. Bird-like beasts roam the skies, alarm cries carrying over kilometers of distance.

Founded many generations ago by the mighty Remus, for whom the city owes its namesake to, and who established the kingdom. Yet over time the kings became corrupt, controlled by foreigner Etrurians and committing heinous acts until eventually the Reman people rose up in righteous anger and cast out the kings. Sovereignty has been secured for the fledgling republic but it must now face new obstacles ranging from hostile neighbors to barbarian hordes and more. With united citizenry, iron in hands and the will to dominate, Rema stands ready to conquer.

Fluff: Long ago, there was a civilization of humans. While most cultures may breed warriors and leaders, this civilization birthed the greatest thinkers in history. Towns filled with wizards and inventors and tailing them were their servants. These people had no need for war or pillaging because they didn’t need more land to produce more food and had the capabilities to build goliath structures to house millions but most of all, they didn’t need to enslave populations because they could make them. For every human living in this land, there was either a construct or homunculi to carry their things, or make their meals. Some even raised their children. These slaves didn’t mind because they weren’t made to care. They didn’t know a better life and they had no longing for a better life. Eventually, blight hit the humans and they began to die. To survive, their servants had to develop free thought. They began worshipping the human’s pantheon of gods but some gods became forgotten overtime. Eventually the humans had all died and what was left of their civilization was taken by the constructs and homunculi who never developed passion but instead think very problematically and logically. Government died alongside the humans and anarchy replaced it but logical thought prevailed and order was maintained. Now, the law of the land is determined by whoever has the money to enforce their ideals.

Religion: Pezar the god of merciful undeath views undeath as a gift and a blessing of second chances to accomplish all that you could not in your original short lived moral shell. Raising children to undeath is considered and act of heresy.

Fluff: The Baruth empire originated as a place for the undead that had been persecuted elsewhere to gather and grow stronger. The empire is relatively peaceful preferring the verbal jousts in the great library or using mindless undead to practice control and strategy in the grand arena to actual direct combat. But due to their very existence being hated it is required that every lich and free undead be ready for service in battle if they should be called upon. The empire is built upon the backs of mindless undead using them for everything from construction to farming for the living citizens of the empire. The living are actually well taken care of and allowed to enjoy their short mortal lives in return for eternal service upon death and reanimation. The emperor in his black gold halls protected by the elite wight swarm guards is viewed by many as the progenitor though none are sure whether he was the one to truly establish the empire or if he inherited it from others the only thing for sure is that he is the most powerful Arch lich known to have ever existed by the empire’s historians.

Government: Godfather and his chief enforcers with petty enforces below them. They collect protection money, secure territory, and engage in business to stimulate the economy when needed.

Religion: The God of Dragons. He did mate with the world and beget his dragon children with great Gaia. In his post-coital sleep he sheds his scales and are blown into the elemental wind by His breathe and this creates the lizardmen and kobolds. Personal strength, power in blood, accumulation of wealth, and family are the chief virtues.

Fluff: After dragons came into being they made of themselves petty kingdoms, families, and feuds in their secluded mountain homes. This changed when Draclon Brandothius came into power. He brought the families together, mobilized the lizardmen and kobolds by taking on humanoid form and displaying his generosity, ingenuity, and fidelity to those that would join him. He recruited nine petty kings to be his enforces and gave unto each a special wand of wood and metal that would shoot fire. In humanoid form he appears as a sharp dressed man in a striped suit as do his enforcers who walk among the subjects. Their humanoid form takes less energy to maintain and so they need not enter the dragon's sleep which can last ages. The lizardmen and kobolds are lead by the new dragons of this era into creating prosperity, culture and power in civilization.

Religion: Cult of Hermes. It is not an explicit religion, but a collections of beliefs and superstitions in the god of luck whose smile or frown can bring a man to glory or cast him to the winds. He who with winged shoes sprints over cloud and air, the god of chance that can make the lowest peasant the wealthiest man or bring down the greatest company to ruin. Hermes values the daring, the adventurer, and the innovator who brings new and exciting things into the world. He hears the clink of good luck charms, but don't weigh yourself down with them or he will laugh at you.

Apart from that, most believe that there is no one true religion or afterlife, but rather, that when a person dies their soul is released into the magical aether and then flies to the afterlife which they most believe in, guided by the god they call upon. To those who do not ascribe to any particular afterlife or god, they will simply be reincarnated back to a random life. Those with good hearts are light as feathers and fly well, those with bad hearts have heavy souls laden with sins and fall to the lower hells where either their sins will be purged with fire or those with truly black hearts will forever be tied like an anchor to the lowest abyss. Fanatics of the Cult of Hermes, the closest thing to an organized religion, believe that if they impress him enough through their deeds, he will give them a boost to escape the cycle and dwell in the higher planes of paradise forever.

Fluff: The Inheritors believe themselves descendants of those who built and lived in The Ancient. According to their history, when the "Great Malfunction" occurred, an entire section of The Ancient broke off and drifted away. These survivors became the ancestors of the Inheritors, who retained as much of their knowledge of magical technology as they could. This island would eventually become known as 'Tortugal', the flying city and the capital of the Inheritors.

The Inheritors rely heavily on tools and vehicles powered by the "Aether", the great channels of magic that flow like air currents. This Aether is what keeps the great islands and continents afloat, and acts as the very essence of magic itself, theorized to be caused by rifts between the material plane and the magical one. Like their claimed Ancestors, they believe that it is the height of magic to harness it with mighty machines and hexes rather than as mere individuals, to craft bigger and better constructs such as the very Ancient island itself.

The Inheritors pride themselves on creating devices which siphon and concentrate magic in its purest form, converting it into power for their use in vessels which fly upon the sky. Explorers and sailors at heart, they are always seeking to travel the skies and see new sights upon their vessels, to return to the great airship docks of Tortugal with spoils and tales. As such, their navy tends to be the greater part of their military, rather than their army which amounts more to a security force.

The Inheritors have no specific government, but are rather ruled by a collection of powerful corporations and companies. After many eras of civil war and carnage, most companies have found it much more profitable to simply if begrudgingly cooperate and establish universal laws, limiting competition to economic rather than mercenary combats. This new era of corporate peace promises a new prosperity for the Inheritors.

Fluff: The lands of Ugg are primordial lands, untouched by the corruption of civilization aside from a mighty complex of caves known as Ugga which serves as the capital of the Ooga Booga Tribe, a tribe of neanderthals and proto-humans that lives a simple life as hunters and gatherers here in the lands. They dislike people who are too advanced, stating often that they're "playing god" and that Sky Father will be angered by those who grow too advanced, and this is verified by the fact that the lands themselves seem to hate technology, making engines cease to work, geared contraptions break and guns jam. And so it is that even while vast cities developed to the southeast the denizens of Ooga Booga proceeded to live their simple life and stay strong while doing so.

Race: Four-dimensional eldritch beings crammed into three-dimensional artificial bodies (Abbr. as Spectrals)

Color: Dark Violet

Starting Location: Southern most tip of the eastern continent

Government: Is a colony ruled by an expedition leader, who is both the civil and military leader, who in turn answers to the Spectral Queen who lies within the void. Any sort of military reinforcements that come from the Rift answer primarily to their leader, who does not necessarily have to listen to the expedition leader, but All answer to the Queen.

Religion: Generally speaking, beings from other realms have no need for 'gods' per se, but revere the Spectral Queen quite as much like a divine being.

Fluff: What lies between the many universes is a curious thing. Once upon a time, it was but one being. A being who could see and manipulate time-and-space, whatever that could qualify as in the void, as one could like putty. Its a maddening thing, to be all alone in a limitless void. Then She found a way to bridge her void to a universe. And thus began the conquests. To conquer the life in a universe and feed it like meat to a sausage maker into her Rifts, upon which that meaningless floating of atoms in her void can be used for as much whatever she wanted. The more universes She took, the more atoms She had. The more atoms She had, the more She could make. The more She could make, the stronger Her armies. The stronger Her armies, the more universes to take. And for as infinite the many possibilities of universes there can be, so too will She be there to take. Sure, each new universe is a new challenge, with new systems and laws of physics to abide, but it will all belong to Her, in the end.

From Her rift in this universe, the light is sucked in, and the expedition comes out, ready to conquer for Her.
