Backstory:

Kragneb Stormmane hails from a land far away where men are born and die in the saddle. His people are nomadic, roaming planes, herding animals and hunting. Like many others of his people Kragneb chose the life of a raider, slaughtering and pillaging with his men. Local lords saw purpose in these riding savages and decided to offer Stormmane gold in exchange for his services and thus the legacy of Stormmane the Mercenary Captain began.

One of the men who bargained for the Stormmane's services was Ernest Austric-Howel, Stormmane and his men fought bravely by his side, however when the time to pay up came he refused, stating that the barbarian horse archers had not bled as his people had. A breach of contract, still this deep within enemy territory Stormmane had burn what little he could and escape with Ernest Austric-Howel's remaining army breathing down his neck. That day however Kragneb swore vengeance. He would get paid.

At long last it would seem the time had come. The young prince desired a crown and Stormmane the head it rested upon. Finally he and his brave horse archers would get paid what they were due. In gold, or in blood.

Backstory: Billy was once a captain of the guard for a corrupt baron whose degeneracy was legendary amongst the townspeople. Much of his time was spent ensuring that none of the peasants would be able to take exception to his ways and that they would pay new taxes to fund this lifestyle. When the good king died the baron immediately sided with his good friend Ernest and supported his usurpation. The instability caused by this was enough to cause an uprising in order to overthrow the godless degenerate and seeing where the winds were blowing Billy had betrayed the baron and had his men execute him in front of the raging hordes of serfs. Now being seen as a hero rather than accessory to the baron's hedonism Billy still had to deal with the fact that they are technically in rebellion and therefore open to retribution. When he learned that the prince was trying to reclaim the throne he immediately seized the opportunity to legitimize his actions and perhaps even take his old boss' place.

Backstory: Once a simple son of a blacksmith in the far off village of Montclus, Henry was like any other peasant boy; strong, bored, and uneducated. He spent his days like all the others, helping their fathers work and their mothers clean, and spending the evenings either at the tavern with his mates causing a ruckus or foraying out to the hinterlands for a spot of poaching or just to explore. He enjoyed life, though it was hard, his father's experience as a smith kept his family at least comfortable. It was the eve of adulthood when his life would change irrevocably. A fire consumed his village, and the manor of the local lord. Many died, including the entire house of the lord, all of his children, his wife, cousins and brothers. Only the lord was left, though so badly burned was he that a scant few hours remained in his life. Henry lost as well, his family and most of his friends. The remaining survivors began the arduous task of rebuilding before the last embers sizzled out. It was just as he had finished burying the corpses of his loved ones that the baliff, having survived the fire in the tower of the keep, sent for Henry. The lord requested his presence at once. Not daring to leave the call of a noble unheeded, Henry departed at once for the charred remains of the keep. The lord, through burnt lips, told all gathered that he was dying, and his last request to be bequeath his holdings to his last living son. The gentry gathered objected, telling the lord that his sons were all dead, but the lord himself simply raised a finger and gestured to Henry, only just 16. The son of the blacksmith quickly stepped out of the way, for surely the lord was pointing to one his sons standing behind him, only to be answered by a withering cough from the lord. "No my boy, I mean you." He wheezed through charred lungs with rasping breaths. "My last decree is to recognize you, my bastard, as the heir to the lands I hold and my titles as head of House Raabs." And as if holding on just long enough to utter this, the man died. His scribe had recorded all of it though, and the once-peasant was thrust immediately into the life of nobility, as the head of ruined estate. Henry spent the next 5 years learning to read, to write, to swing a sword and move in armor, to rule a keep and ride a horse, and somehow managed to return his little village (now actually his) to some semblance of normalcy. The king, a generous man, noticed this and bequeathed upon Henry the right to raise horses for the Royal Stable, a prestigious honor for a man from such low upbringing to where he was now. Henry took to this task wholeheartedly, and before long the Raabs Steeds where known as across the realm as warhorses without equal, larger and quite fast for their size, with a stamina to match. With the additional income garnered from the crown and noble lords looking to secure a steed of their own, Henry used the additional income to both improve his holdings and equip his men to make full use of his equine advantage, and soon not only where the horses of House Raabs quite well renowned, but the knights as well! It came as a surprise to all when the good King James Austric-Howel III, but Henry in particular, who was granted his current station by the generosity of the king, was deeply troubled at his passing. He was completely incensed at the actions of his brother as well, the honor-less Ernest bedding the queen before the king had even been placed in the ground. Immediately Henry raised his banners and sent word to the young Prince Adam that he would champion his cause, honoring the charity and chivalry of his father, before word had even reached Henry of Adam calling the banners himself.

They say his great great great great grandsire once shot a bird's heart as it was on the edge of the horizon cross the whole bloody valley and thats why they named this freeman's land Reach's Edge. Its good country they run and strong sons they raise and them being so near the boundary of where the fightins gonna be they has to pick a side and Pluck went with the Prince seein as " 'e 'as the roight of it" and off they went to declare for the Prince carrying their Reach's Edge Banner. Backstory: Born in the northern marches, Emma had to learn how to fight to keep her town safe. The women were taught how to use Bows and Pikes and farming tools in case raiders ever made it passed the guard, especially during nights. Emma was the daughter of the best hunter in the March and went beyond just learning the basics, going out on hunts with her father. One day, heading out along the road for a hunt, she came upon a noble being ambushed by bandits. She quickly dispatched the bandits with her bow and went to help anybody left. Only the noble was left, who turned out to be the local Baron of her town. She helped him back to the town and, enchanted by his savior's skill and beauty, the Baron inquired about her, finding out she was the granddaughter of his mayor. The Baron was relatively old, and had just gotten back from burying his wife who had given him no children, so he quickly arranged to marry Emma. They got married and Emma gave him a son right away. Emma was content for several years, happy to have a child and a husband so willing to spoil her. Then, the King died. When the King's Brother claimed the throne, the Baron's Lord did not immediately go to acknowledge his claim, so the King's Brother summoned him and any of his vassals he thought might not accept him and executed them for treason. When Emma found out her husband and son were executed and soldiers were on their way to accept the delivery of the castle, she fell into despair. She went out to the town to deliver the news, thinking that the town would probably be sacked from either the soldiers or raiders so the people should be given warning to save themselves. Instead of panicking and evacuating, the townsfolk were enraged. They decided to form a militia and resist those that killed their good lord and come to pillage them. Emma was emboldened by their loyalty and strength, and technically being the Lady of the land, united the town under her and formed a plan. When the soldiers came to the town, they were ambushed in the castle and along the path and were slaughtered. Some villagers died, including Emma's Father, but most of them survived and hurried to prepare the town for a proper siege. When no soldiers came, Emma wondered if they were going to let them have the town, until she heard word that the Prince was forming an army to take the throne. Many of the men wanted to go, but Emma was worried that there would be not enough to defend the town if they left. On the night before she was going to announce that they would stay, Emma had a dream. In the dream, there was a huge battlefield littered with dead soldiers. She roamed the battlefield endlessly, crying as she looked at the bodies and wondering why so many had to die. Finally, she came upon a hill, and atop the hill, surrounded by arrows, was the corpse of the King's Brother. She woke, and knew that it was a vision from God. That same day, she marched with her best men to the Prince's Camp.

Backstory: The thousand arrows are a somewhat new mercenary group headed by their leader Costa Forreti. An experienced, though infamous soldier of fortune he takes his reputation as a self-admitted scoundrel and chronic backstabber as a point of pride, and it doesn't stop him from having some likable qualities. Flamboyantly dressed and wearing a long mustache he is always partial for a drink and a good battle. He has a breadth of experience in warfare, and is a surprisingly capable fighter and charismatic leader, especially when the odds are against him.

Backstory: Swaernhold is a border province for the kingdom or Arulia. Constantly beset by bandits and wrose, the men of Swaernhold are tough and hardy, by necessity. As such when the young king Adam called his abnners to rally, Dolan was sent by his elder brother to go help. Swaernhold is not a rich land, nor does the heavy armor that most knights favor found in abundance due to both cost and wear and tear in a combat heavy land. So Dolan's force is made of light but easier to maintain by far cavalry which allows him to be more nimble. The difference in equipment is more than made up for in the troops being more experienced in battle and having a higher veterancy.

A veteran mercenary man from Flandings, where the open flat terrain has lead to a recent style of warfare: Wagons and Lances. These wagons can provide a good vantage point for polearms, and cover for crossbowmen. A "wagon fort" can be made quickly by men moving the wagons in a circle, providing a complete circle of protection while crossbowmen can cover from afar.

Meiers Grey Company specialized in "mobile defense". With shovels and picks and axes, they can dig trenches and lay sackloths of earth and plant wooden stakes on the ground, and are just as easily ready to leap from such cover and push forward under the shield of their wagons.

Backstory: Once upon a time in the back alleys of the northern nation of Swedistan a baby was born to a pair of dirt farmers trying to have an abortion and his name was Druza. Druza the Loozah, as he would come to be known, as he would always be the literal worst at whatever he did. He was such a loser that he was kicked out of Swedistan in favor of swarthy brown men but he found a new home in Arulia. But life is hard as a loser so he formed the Losers' Club made of all the losers from across the kingdom. Alone they may lose but together they win…well, that's their motto at least.

Backstory: Once upon a time in the back alleys of Arulia a baby was born to a pair of unexemplary dirt farmers named Phaile Wurst. Much like his parents, Phaile Wurst was never good at anything, and in fact was always the worst at everything he did. He would always try his hardest but would always be outshone by more skilled individuals in whatever he would do. Due to the intense competition Phaile was almost relegated to being a lowly beggar but he soon discovered that he was not alone in his failure. Thus Phaile went all across Arulia and brought together all the losers and rejects of the world, forming the League of Lackluster Gentlemen with the motto "Alone we lose but together we win!" Now they have decided that their next course of action is to seek glory, take up arms and rally behind the crown prince in his time of need, and in doing so perhaps they may finally make something of themselves.

>Backstory: Yokus like his father and his father’s father before him has been preparing for a time to prove their families worth. Having held their land for many generations but never truly earning noble rank it has been their ultimate goal to seal their control of the lands around them by having it recognized by the crown. They have been preparing for this particular conflict for a while noticing the increasing instability in the royal family. Preparing to risk it all on the gamble of installing a king right or wrong doesn’t matter only victory and the rewards that come with it. The clan has been mobilized in almost its entirety. His grandfathers personal guard the Freemen established with promises of strength and money (for what else can truly set you free?) to those willing to fight and die for their soon to be noble lord the freemen have become the most disciplined and battle hardened of the three units but also the oldest, they are the pride and joy of the Marim family. The Legio is his father’s creation and is made very much to a standard of duty and honor there is little special about them they are not bloodthirsty and hard as steel like the Freemen but they are not young and green like the risers. The risers are Yokus own creation. Young and fresh they have little experience and only completed their training as a unit fairly recently. They are hungry to prove their strength and want nothing more than to discplace the freemen as the greatest unit of the family and bring pride to current lord that has created them with his own hand.

Backstory: The proud head of House Lorten-Meier, Daniel has wished to leave his frontier keep along with his children and brothers to fight in the wars of the Kings of Arulia, wanting for wealth and renown. He travelled with his band of heavy armored knights to the fields of Elenore in order to pledge his support to the young king.

Though they are low on wealth, their rough experiences in the frontier fighting against rivalling kingdoms and tribes have made them one of the most experienced heavy cavalry units of the realm. Their ways are considered barbaric at best by most lords of the more peaceful parts of the kingdom, but they've proved their effectiveness time and time again during long campaigns.

While the Hussars can be sent into the thick of the fight, they are better off striking at the enemy's flanks.

Backstory: Hailing from the territories of Vrakas in the barren wastes of the far northwest, the Dread Irons have spent generations fighting off and running down the roving bands of savages, bandits, desperate rebels, and those unknown from beyond the wastes who test Arulian borders and frontier. Forming a community of those born and raised to fight against the terrors of the wastes, and the errant-turned-stalwart knightly rejects who mettle out anonymous glory for themselves, the Dread Irons of Vrakas have become reknowned in the region for their unshakable will in combat, a resolve made of contempt towards Arulia's enemies of which is almost religious in their fervor. Despite their mission to protect the Arulia's frontier, all the more still, the king acknowledged the power of such a group, making the title of Head Marshall a noble position, and using the Dread Irons as a shock troop to throw at the most hardy of positions, knowing that all the men there would sooner die than rout. Throughout the kingdom, the haunting iron-masks of the Dread Irons strikes fear into the King's enemies.

Most renowned amongst the Dread Irons of Vrakas are the Iron Riders, men who have shown to have been above and beyond the skill, fortitude, and potential of your average Dread Iron, which is impressive in-of-itself. These men are then trained as the ultimate shock troop in their fights against the savages of the wastes, those who crash and break the enemy, and who themselves will not break until their mount and bodies do.

The Dread Irons are politically simple, they shall serve the rightful king, whomst ever they may be. It does not matter as to how prestigious or powerful someone may be, the true king is whomever the rightful heir of House Austric-Howel is. The Head Marshall of the Iron Men, Karl Bellomtus, hearing of the usurption of the throne, and the call to arms by Adam, has taken himself and the Iron Riders to assist the true king's ascent to the throne, leaving behind the Dread Irons to protect the wastes.
