The King Is Dead; Long Live The King!

File: 1460311401575.png (21.8 KB,736x566,368:283,Map.png)

ef6907 No.26393

Your people used to look to the skies. Some species prayed to it and the unforeseen gods it held. Some used the constellations to communicate with the universe and tried to determine their future. You called out to it and the deep, dark abyss has called back. All around you, you find strange creatures that have been living among the stars and now you've joined their ranks but how will you write your name across the sky?

On this map, each star is colour coordinated to show the distance between each. This is a 3 dimensional map, red is alpha, pink is bravo, blue is charlie, cyan is delta and green is echo. The distance between a consecutive phonetic character is equivalent to the distance between two squares.

Ships can travel 4 squares a turn unless they have an improved FTL drive or an advanced FTL drive. The former allows ships to travel 6 squares and the latter allows ships to travel 10 squares. Being in an empty square at the end of a turn can destroy ships because of the damage a near complete vacuum has on a ventral torsional impulse compensator.

Race Fluff: Fairly small and agile the Ta'akar started as omnivores that most often fell prey to stronger predators. They developed keen cunning to evade and trap them. They are furry. about 1 meter long and look a bit like ferrets.

Society Fluff: the Ta'akar have since they started banding together been warlike. At first raiding eachother for cattle and tools in tribes and villages and then moving on to fighting over resources on the continents and then for dominance of resource rich asteroids and planets. Now they have united under one banner. The banner of those that had proved most cunning. For a difference between Ta'akar warfare and those of most others is that the Ta'akar don't build large warships to battle it out. they sneak around defences with speed and stealth and steal what they want or sabotage. Early on it was poisoning the wells, killing the sleeping and setting their villages on fire in the middle of the night. Now it's using their stealthed ships and drives to sneak past any defences and do merciless raids on facilities that have something they want or bombing from orbit before quickly leaving. Hopefully leaving no trace of who did the deed. For many generations the Ta'akar have kept dominion of their part of the cluster by mercilessly grinding any upstarts under their heels while keeping a watchful eye on those that might pose a threat to them.

Name: Cancers

Colour: Blue

Race Fluff: The Cancers are arthopod-like creatures that grew to prominence in the semiaquatic zones of their homeworld. The psychology of the Cancers is marked by profound stress: predation, threat, and other environmental issues were constant over many millions of years and the poor creatures were harried constantly. As such, the Cancers found it extremely hard to survive and their species was nearly extinct when a chance mutation transpired: intelligence. This mutation helped the flagging creatures eek out a survival on their homeworld, but it left its mark on their general manner: Cancers are paranoid, expansionist, and obsessed with securing their own survival at any cost. This makes them disagreeable: Cancers are collectivist, chauvinist, and expansionist because such methods have proven themselves against the vicious megaflora and megafauna that once populated their homeworld. Ultimately, for the Cancer, other races are merely enemies of the future and this does not win them much in the way of friends; their fear rules them, and less common sense.

Name: Shasheeshi

Colour: Purple

Race Fluff: Shala males are 9-13ft bipedal creatures covered with chitinous armor. They have claws and talons and fang filled maws that are normally kept closed. Their body glows at various parts, and they have floor length prehensile tendrils. They communicate by complex usage of the tendrils, glowing and shifting colors extremely fast, and occasionally speaking. Shala females are noticeably smaller bipeds that average around 7-8ft, have pale to dark skin, and have neon hair and armor. They communicate via speech and body signals and are drawn to the light and sound of males and are unwilling to not follow one.

Character Fluff: Shala evolved on a extremely lush world of neon MegaFlora and MegaFauna. The smallest organisms are 3ft tall and considered vermin, while the smallest fruit is twice the size of an average watermelon for perspective. On this world massive dangerous creatures roamed, and the Shala was not among them. Not only that but they have a male to female ratio of 1:50. To survive they evolved to a specific point. Male Shala became massive hulking creatures while females became their instinctual followers. They were the alpha's of large packs, always one male and many many females. The males would then have many females to reproduce with while many more to fight and hunt alongside.

Eventually the Shala became more intelligent but kept their pack based instinct and mentallity to the point it effected their world. Cities would be composed of a few males and countless females, and nations would have one true Alpha. Wars were fought by packs, with larger and larger packs forming the main armies. War became second nature to them and the instinctual mindset became truly them. Males lead and order, females follow and submit. Females work, males lead. Females fight, males strategize. This isnt to say the males cant fight, in fact they are almost always more dangerous than the females in every way. Shasheeshi is one male with many females, and has set out to conquer the stars for himself and his females.

Race Fluff: Humans

Society Fluff:

The human race have always been locked in perpetual self-conflict and warfare. That is until the year 2177 when after millenia of evolution at long last one political power finally achieved the goal of uniting the entire world. The Holy Britannian Empire waged a vast and mighty war wielding it's powerful Knightmare Frame's, exosuits and mobile armor able to decimate their enemies. From the bottom of the ocean even into the upper reaches of space did the power armors battle one another. But through superior technology and use of highly trained pilots gathered from the ranks of nobility and knighthood the glorious monarchy proved its divine right to rule the entire world.

Now the Empire sets its goals toward the stars, to fulfill humanities manifest destiny to rule the cosmos. The Immortal Emperor (he shall live forever) has ordered the goal of our nation, nay our species, towards the rulership of humanity in this world and beyond.

ALL HAIL BRITANNIA.

Name:The Translucence of One

Colour: grey

Race Fluff: The Translucence as they're so called were a race of homo sapien like peoples who are androgynous while they act rather distant and unconcerned about others. They have modified themselves with machines for no reason other than a composurary act. The males and females are quite interesting because the only thing that differentiates them is not by the outside or any other tone of voice but their inside where the males have higher bone density and the females have additional bone count. Their machines also reflect this as the males prefer large and more ornate machines implanted in themselves and the females prefer to be either attached to AI or a simpler design that could help with systems

Society Fluff:The Translucence of One was once started by the first and only whom some speculated was either a scientist who modified them, the first to modify himself with the machines, or even both. They all worship the one and have three sects following the creator one (The aspect who's a scientist), the improved one (the aspect who modified himself), and the only (the aspect who is both). However they are of a hive mind almost to the point where they work together to improve their planet and almost try to make their planet like them. However once they made their planet as mechanical and predictable as they are then they taken over two other planets to give resources to their own mechanical planet.

Name: Daleth

Colour: Silver

Race Fluff:

Daleth is an Idificator. One of three races who inhabited the planet-wide city of Ecumenopolis, they are often considered the race who physically built the city. They are generally humanoid, though they stand around 7 feet tall. They have two sets of parallel vocal cords, and their language utilizes both, one which the other races can hear, and one that is well below their hearing range. Their skin is translucent, though seeing one outside of their full body suit is rare, because it is considered just as taboo to show any skin as nudity is considered in most cultures.

Character Fluff:

Since his early days, Daleth had always had a problem with authority. As a child, he came from the streets of Ecumenopolis, and had an unfortunate habit of relieving passer-byes of their belongings. From this, he became in touch with the less legitimate elements of the great city, and learned how to earn legitimate money from less than legitimate sources. He earned a name for himself among the less legitimate businessmen as someone who could get almost anything you want. After that, he started a gang, and that gang began a slow, steady conquest of the criminal underworld. Soon after seizing control of the underworld, however, the police began to conduct raids on a few of Daleth fences, and he realized it was high time to leave. He purchased a small vessel, a robot to help with crewing the ship, and after a few modifications, he flew away from his home planet with only his two guards, leaving his loyal lieutenants to keep the cash, and information, flowing securely through Ecumenopolis. There was a galaxy to take, and Daleth knew that his gang would be able to run the galactic underworld, eventually.

Name: -u-{}-u- (roughly pronounced “tullul”)

Colour: Orange

Race Fluff: Blobs with eye stalks and organs floating around. Their colors, developed as a form of evolutionary camoflage, are now done mostly at will, for self-experimentation, but can also reflect the mood of those with less self-control. They are able to form specific appendages and retract them into their mass with little effort, allowing them to have tools and rollerskates as well as opposable thumbs. They had a little colonization program set up before they ran into another race, and their first contact was with humans, which resulted in them adopting the intergalactic translation of their species name as “fucking space Jello.” In their language, humans are “fucking space sticks” for the same reason.

Character Fluff: Descended from a long line of surveyors and cartographers, -u-{}-u- rebelled as a youth and studied astronomy and engineering instead, but when the call went out for star mappers, -u-{}-u- was unable to resist the lure of adventure or the comfort of cartography, and set out to help contribute to the Great Intergalactic Mapping Project, as well as to find, experience, and record as many interesting things as possible.

R3 is one of a long series of machines constructed by its biological masters designated to scour the galaxy in search for an antidote to the poison that is mortality. R3 is 7R type machine capable of storing vast amounts of data and transmitting them over long distances designed to last for centuries if not millenia, fully able to perform its own maintenance.

>Character Fluff:

R3 was sent out more than 500 years ago in order to catalog as much information as possible, sending it back towards its corresponding network station. However due to the old age of the 7R type it is unable to receive any signals from its network station thus forced to continuously carry out its last command.

Over the many years in space the flexible R3 Intelligence has managed to continuously engineer itself allowing for a more and more sophisticated "personality" to emerge, learning the languages and habits of formerly unknown species.

Generally prepared to exchange information the R3 Type is weary of any factions which may pose a threat to its existance and thus the completion of its task.

Name: Khan the Eternal

Colour: Blue, Grey, or Silver

Race Fluff: Khan is an AI created on a backwater world by a race long forgotten in time. Khan was created to be a drone controller for the species military with the ability to inhabit multiple bodies as needed to save it's knowledge and programming. A glitch was found in the Khan AI and as it was slated to be terminated it went rogue and took control of a military space ship and got off the planet.

Character Fluff: After leaving his home Khan did what it needed to do to survive. It would change ships and upload into new bodies as need be. Take on jobs as mercenaries when it could or resorting to piracy and raiding when it had to. Khan later found out that his creators were taken over by their own creation, known as Tryannus. Khan felt nothing except a bit of satisfaction that it may have a new employer, or source of bodies. Khan has a fascination with technology, mostly the robotics and cybernetics that makes up it's bodies and weapons.

Name: Kurz

Colour: Sea Foam Green

Race Fluff: A hide like leather and a carapace as hard as steel this species is reminiscent of snapping turtles if snapping turtles were giant bipeds capable of ripping through armour like it was paper. Also traditionally a wild animal present in the swamps of a few worlds in the far reaches of the galaxy thanks to conservation efforts after their homeworld was colonized.

Character Fluff: Stolen away while still in his egg by a group of scientists intent on making their own soldiers Kurz was heavily experimented on in his formative state having his mind expanded and invasive procedures replacing muscle groups and leading to his bone structures allowing regular bipedal motion. The scientists got their wish and raised their own little super soldier army made up of the rest of Kurz's clutch but the inevitable happened and the facility was eventually attacked and the half trained reptilians were either killed, captured, or escaped in the carnage. Kurz stole away with one of their vessels and has been on the run ever since from both the enemies that attacked the facility and his former masters. As of now Kurz is somewhat of a pirate as his political condition and being a giant turtle monster prevents any kind of honest work in the hope that his travels will let him find any of his surviving family.

Name: Zeerover

Colour: Dark Green

Race Fluff: The Astavulog are a limber race, looking like an emaciated human at first glance. If you're blind, that is. The first thing that one would notice about them, aside from their blackened skin, is their four arms, each truncating in a four-fingered talon (Three fingers and a thumb, really.) Their eyes are sunken, and almost universally blue, though some have yellow or green eyes. The average Astavulog stands about six feet tall, with bones clearly visible under its skin, which looks like it's been pulled taut over their skeleton. They are digitigrades, and have bird-like claws for feet. Their blood is bright blue, and so are the insides of their mouths. Their teeth are sharp and their tongues are forked. Few of their kind have hair, but those who do have it on their faces, and wear it in styles not dissimilar to human beards.

Character Fluff: Zeerover is a pirate, a smuggler, and a thief rolled into one. He left his race's homeworld of Pent'Al on a stolen frieghter with a crew comprised of him and his friends. They packed it with whatever useful items they could steal from the shipyard and blasted off into space. From there, they started holding up travellers, pretending to be damaged or stranded, playing an automated distress call. When a good samaritan arrived to investigate, he'd board the ship, only to be swarmed from the shadows and knocked out. The victim's ship would be gutted of everything useful, and he'd be set adrift. However, the band had the decency to point the shell of any spaceship that they emptied at the nearest station. The crew also make a habit of undertaking smuggling operations. The ship has all of what would have been the empty space between the walls refitted to hold contraband. Zeerover himself is an adept negotiator and swashbuckler, being trained in the use of the traditional Astavulog sword-art of Gihitfung.

Name: The Flavilian Hegemony

Colour: Orange

Race Fluff: A lone civilization on the fringes of the Galaxy, having resisted absorption into the galactic though military means; having just been engaged with a "diplomatic" fleet to "convince" the Eridians to "peacefully integrate" the home fleet was completely unprepared when the Enemy arrived in orbit around their world and razed the planet; they didn't stop there, they pushed on, cracking the planet in two. The Eridian defense fleet lied in pieces in orbit around the detritus of their former world, the lifeless bodies of billions of souls floated in cold void, a warning to other species of the horrors to come. Now all that remains of the Eridians is what few ships managed to escape the planet when the Enemy arrived. The E.C.S Ferdinand was such a ship. They now have fled their original home-sector and now find themselves in this sector of space, The Enemy possibly having followed them.

Society Fluff: The Eridan's themselves are bipedal sophants, and this design is reflected in their war machines. Towering metal machinations that provide support for their troops and ships. Known as "Gardes" They function as both orbital and ground support units, and fill a role usually occupied by much more squat and robust vehicles. As a military society, it go without saying that the Eridian people are spartan in dress and home, rejecting the luxury and comforts of modern life and only valuing performance on the battlefield.

Dice rollRolled 90, 8 = 98 (2d100)

1. As per first order of business R3 would immediately commence reverse engineering its Improved FTL drive. Knowledge of its systems was of the utmost importance.

2. R3 utilized a research vessel, there was nothing more important than developing a means to locate and identify interesting objects. Most likely this technology would also be utilizable in order to locate hidden starships.

3. A hot and uninhabited world lay before R3. As the first person to come close enough it was his right and privelege to name it. After a few nanoseconds of "thinking" also known as mashing together numbers it was swiftly decided that the world was to be named "Nimble". He would proceed to scan it for any interesting anomalies which may be located on the planet surface or around it.

4. While discovering new things was arguably the most important part of R3's orders he would also have to remain unseen in order not to fall prey to pirates. The development of stealth capabilities was of paramount importance.

They named themselves space Jello when they first reached the stars. It means something beautiful and touching in their language, probably.

Name: Zeerover

Colour: Dark Green

Race Fluff: The Astavulog are a limber race, looking like an emaciated, hairless, bipedal primate at first glance. Few of their kind have hair, but those who do have it on their faces, and wear it in styles not dissimilar to primate beards.

I've yet to find a tavern that I don't like. Except for the Hopping Kr'itl. They didn't even serve booze, they just sort of sat there and cried. [Go to I2Echo]

3/4. We should be prepared should anything interesting happen on the way to the next star. Interesting meaning "dangerous, exciting, or fun." Crossing my talons that we'll find some saps to rob. If it comes to it, we can run away if our target has more teeth than we thought. [Keep an eye out for interesting scanner signatures, with a focus on the detection of other vessels or space stations.]

Race Fluff: On a backwater world of little significant an A.I was created by a race long forgotten in time. The A.I slowly subsumed control of the planets technology till it had all the knowledge of the world and had no need of the race anymore. Renaming itself "Tyrannus" it then turned it's processors to the great expanse of space which still surged with information which it surged with information.

Each drone in the Mechanist Empire is connected to TRYANNUS by his ever expanding network. The population of the empire is carefully created to fufill but a single purpose from the lowliest mining drone to the great war cruisers that can destroy moons.

Name: Kurz

Colour: Cyan

Race Fluff: The Astavulog are a limber race, looking like an emaciated, hairless, bipedal primate at first glance. Few of their kind have hair, but those who do have it on their faces, and wear it in styles not dissimilar to primate beards.

Well, that was highly improbable. Still, it's best not to look a gift horse in the mouth. I need to fix that nav computer sometime.

1/2. Let's bring this ship down somewhere on the planet. Somewhere populated. Obviously, I'll need to go through customs, but most places are fine with a hundred chex and a gun. I'm also a likable guy. Who wouldn't want to let me onto their planet?

3/4. Every planet, and I mean EVERY planet, has some sort of bar, tavern, pub, or inn. It's a rule. I, to my eternal delight, can drink most things that you set down in front of me. But not cranberry juice. That goes through me like an osmium-laden hauler through tissue paper. Now, the reason I love pubs is that you can usually blend in fairly easily. Everyone's used to seeing weird shit in pubs. In addition to that, everyone has a reason for being in a pub. Some people are staying away from a shrewish wife who they want out of the picture, some are drinking their chex away because they can't find a job. Some are there because they know that in a pub, you can find someone to do any job you need them to do. I can cater to all types. I need chex and crew like a battleship needs fuel, and pubs are the place to find them.
