Hell /asatru/. I'm interested in heathenry, but seeing as my blood is for the most part Celtic, wouldn't it make more sense for me to convert to, and research, the druidic tradition? Also, I apologize if there is a general FAQ thread, I looked at the catalog and didn't find it.

What nationality are you?

Mind you, celts were predominant in west france and south germany (bavarians are in fact mostly celts+some elbgermanic immigrants) and there they exchanged gods quiete a bit with their germanic and roman neighboors.

Matron gods were celto germanic, grannus-appollus was a romano-celtic one.

Druidic "tradition" got already hammered by the romans into smithereens so as long as your not some galic speaking irishmen living besides mount brandon you have even less sources and thricefold the wiccan retardry associated to celtic stuff then to germanic/roman one.

Make from that what you want.

I am an American, my ancestry is half Irish though. From a short look at whats left of Irish mythology, I realize that the road ahead would be very difficult. Likely, I would end up hybridizing with another Indo-european mythology.

So do that, its hard enough to rationalise and be apologetic for polytheism if you arent a hindu anyway.

All European Pagan religions come from the same thing, the PIE Religion. Every European culture's interpretation of the Gods is the same, they just use different names and such. As long as you are European you can follow any sect without quarrel.

Eh, everything is germanic after some people, you can lead most people in europe back to indoeuros but thats about it as the deviations that follow seem pretty consistent if sorted after language groups.

>>12127

Finno ugrics, and other pre indoeuropean minorities have left some regional marks that deviate from the overall overlap of pantheons.

Also the oriental kink of the greeks with their close interaction with egyptians and levantine semites should have made them different.

Whatever being that hid behind baba jaga seems to be unique to the slavs, even the romans didnt know what to equate it to, then the iberic gods we basically know nothing about and of course what was worshipped by samis, lapps and minor finnic groups along other ubique deitys such as Crom dubh and what the balts had.

Seems to be in accordance with special genetic markers, as basques, finns and balts all have some special snowflake genes that are only found in them in small numbers.

There is an actual base in history for hybridizing irish/norse mythology. This being the colonisation attempts made by vikings during the viking age (Dublin, Cork, Limerick) as well as the large irish slave population ferried off towards Iceland.

You should look towards the other half of your ancestry. If it is germanic, you have more than enough reason to be asatru. If it is not, you should try to find out what are typical Irish beliefs. If im not mistaken, there is a large overlap with scottish picts.

Just don't have this attitude: https://www.reddit.com/r/asatru/comments/57w4fu/this_may_be_a_frequently_visited_topic_if_so_my/

I dont know how these people reconcile their PC views with a very race-conscious system of worship

surely there are, but likely lower amounts than germanic pagans, and they probably dont label themselves as folkish. most clear headed people avoid celtic shit because its been effectively ruined by wiccan and pretend-druids, but if you dig a little deeper and get into genuine celtic myth its very fascinating

i think hippies and faggots are just attracted to celtic stuff more often because not as many nazi-like symbols, and the whole nature worship thing is the only thing people typically know about the druids
