Dopamine, as in the thing almost all your organs use. The reason people are driven to learn or adapt. The imbalace of dopamine, specifically. Pursuing food gives you dopamine, eating gives you dopamine, but having eaten food actually doesn't give you dopamine. So if you had food, you don't need to waste dopamine on finding and pursuing it.

The threat of that alone is enough to keep me going.
So as long as it keeps working, I will keep moving. The threat of failure is always there, but I would rather fail than quit.

Basically, dopamine is released for several reasons. It can be due to a pleasant stimuli, an unpleasant stimuli, or even just the expectation of stimuli. Trying to 'seek' dopamine is nonsensical. It doesn't really mean anything.
Also, there are animals that do not produce dopamine.
