You, as a person, are technically incapable of interpreting reality 1:1. Not only that, even if you could, there are biological limits on what you can actually perceive. The way your brain handles this is by giving you a goal, and directing your senses towards the identification of elements of reality which are constituent congruent with the achievement of the desired result.
In layman's terms, you see what you want to see because you need to see it, or at least you believe you do. This process can be observed in the defective state in schizophrenics and psychotics, for example. So, your insistence, philosophically, that you can perceive objective reality is completely arbitrary and nonsensical. Your perceptions are tools to serve a goal.

>You, as a person, are technically incapable of interpreting reality 1:1. Not only that, even if you could, there are biological limits on what you can actually perceive.
I almost said all this but felt it redundant.
>The way your brain handles this is by giving you a goal, and directing your senses towards the identification of elements of reality which are constituent congruent with the achievement of the desired result.
you could break down this statement into smaller parts, and ask if each part is well framed, and describes neural phenomena accurately. Depending on what you really mean by this, it could be a fair generalization and portrayal, or perhaps a misleading one that misaligns with the data. In this case, I don't think perception is goal oriented at all. We listen and see and take in stimuli without needing the goal to, and our senses seem to function continuously without any directing action.
If you want to talk about attention, that's something that engages many parts of our brain in different ways depending on various context...
You should be skeptical of egocentric explanations of psychology. That's a good test of whether something is pseudopsychology. Because we know that the abstraction of an ego from our neural phenomena is hard to justify.

You may feel inclined to compare or contrast them to what you've learned so far, or perhaps you'll recognize some explanations that Peterson has borrowed to justfiy his views. There's a lot of reading, but this site breaks things down to various relevant levels of abstraction. Would reccomend for each psychological level you look at, you check out the neurological level. There are precise details about portrayal throughout, so read slowly and carefully. Even I have to.
It's dry, long, and boring. But especially when it comes to the anatomy of structures and networks, you get a clearer picture of what it actually means to exhibit a behaviour, or to perceive, or what it means to refer to the conscious and unconscious aspects of our selves. Then you should appreciate that none of this information was known back during Jung or those old philosophers.

That's neither what self-evident means, nor is it true. We don't believe digestion can exist independent of a digestive system.
We only make an exception for consciousness because we have skin in the game - no one has ever witnessed nor found consciousness apart from a brain - so why would anyone except to? In fact, what would it even look like? We have no idea.

Most neutral monists hold the view that the distinction between substance being mental and non-mental is meaningless.
They may still believe that the qualia that make up our subjective experience consists of a substance, but this substance cannot be meaningfully distinguished from any other substance. This is not my view.
On the question of whether substance is mental or non-mental, I'm not neutral. I think substance is non-mental. I don't think that subjective sensations are made up of any substance.
I think they are events that are carried out by a substance rather than the kind of entities that can be made up of a substance.
Rather, I'm a neutral monist because I don't think it means anything to say that substance is physical or non-physical.
To say that substance is non-physical is a contradiction and therefore meaningless.
To say that substance is physical is a tautology and therefore meaningless.
If you define "physical substance" as "substance that is not mental", then you can say I'm a physicalist. I agree that substance is not mental.
However, it seems like a lot of the time the term "physical substance" is used to mean nothing more than "substance that is not non-physical", which is obviously meaningless. It is in the context in which the term "physical" seems to be used in this vapid way that I can not consider myself a physicalist.

What I mean to say is that the human brain is prone to fundamental errors, especially in statistical analysis. For example, the brain just plain sucks at recognizing randomness. We are consistently fooled by randomness.
If we try to create randomness, patterns will quickly show up.
Randomness doesn't look random to us, see image attached.
But it can look random to an A.I. that has proper statistical coding.

The popular view among neutral monists is that because we cannot meaningfully distinguish between mental substance and non-mental substance, that the universe therefore only consists of only one kind of substance. Neutral elements which are neither mental nor non-mental.
My critique of this is the conflation of 'events' with 'states'. For instance, as steveAn correctly pointed out, consciousness is impermanent. Bodily functions are impermanent. We can forget stuff or malfunction. The underlying molecules and atoms can all be exchanged without the pattern (that is, function) breaking.
It is in this sense that I can't consider myself a proper neutral monist either. I don't think pattern of activities are "made up" of any stuff. I wouldn't know how to even begin to think this.

True randomness doesn't really play into this.
When making certain judgments, such as correlations, statistical significance ought to be thought of as 'distance from random distribution'. We rely on computers for this because our brains are shibas.
In the picture i posted earlier, the right image is patterened with a poisson process, while the left image represents the correlation between the points (and is therefore an unstructured random process without a pattern)

Correct, randomness is by definition patternless.
It's not unpredictable because it's random, it's unpredictable because it lacks a pattern, which is what we base our predictions on.
To say something is random doesn't mean it is uncaused, it simply means that we can't distinguish a pattern. It's not really a statement about the underlying nature of an event but our ability to recognize it. For all we know, every "random" event may be pseudo-random. I actually suspect that this is the case.

15 suffers from no direction and too many ideas.
The combat is basically hold attack or dodge to win. The DLC made great use of unique ideas and combat systems. Very good execution, but sadly they didn't carry any of it to the main game. Cramming IRL advertisers into it made it awkward, along with a far too forgiving mechanic about how you died. All you had to do is have all your revives on hand and you never die. You fall down but that's it. They also canned all planed DLC past the 4 we get and some odd tie ins.
Not to mention you had to get the movie, anime, game, and all DLC to really get the story that they changed 4 times. It really could have been great, but underutilized almost all of its systems.

Fair. I just know how they were during WW2, and could only assume they continued that crazy-shit thinking forward.
This is quickly becoming not an agreement.

Well the Beatle was designed to be as simple as could be, I reckon even the goose-stepping fucks can reign it in if only in small doses. They've fell back into bad habits lately though, I've got a demo model of the linkage for a German designed gas pedal that is just out of hand.
Oh you already agreed with me- Unfortunately bumpers aren't keen on negotiating.

Yeah, I can respect that. Especially their late-war designs. They did start making things simple and easy to mass produce if for no other reason that they couldn't do anything else.

Yeah they really went balls to the wall trying to crank out kriegsemodelle(?) last ditch type shit- Good case study in lean manufacturing though, if nothing else- Hell, that was a mild case study during some of my engineering fundamentals courses.

So who is looking forward to the Dark Age of Technology? That shit is going to happen, and then we are going to crumble into idiots who can't access any of the knowledge on the computers they don't know how to make or work on.

Having a school located at the last stop before the end of the world leads to some weird shit. Hell, they had to send out a notification on the day after Trump was elected that stated, "classes and coursework will continue, NO EXCEPTIONS will be made for late work!"

Yes, and no. I can actually see this shit happening. Just think, all the tech manuals that we used to have stacked up on our bookshelves are more and more becoming a harddrive. What happens if we lose access to those drives? Then we lose access to virtually all the knowledge of humanity, outside individuals. Many analog technologies are dying, giving way to digital. It leaves us in a precarious situation. We are so dependant on the technology we have created to the point that without it, we are worse off than we would have been even 50 years ago.

I think you got more balls than brains, hoss!
I don't think books and technical text are as sparse as you might be lead to believe. They're still VERY much out there (Rand McNally has seen to that) just the convenience of people being able to look up that information on the same thing they can also view strong pornography is a convenience few would like to compromise. Though I am a filthy tradesman so I probably see this kind of scenario more optimistically than most; where a nice culling of the "Jazz Studies" majors of the world who couldn't tell you North from South would be a welcome shakeup.
