What I do care is that I want to socialize, present, and identify as a female does

The most popular treatment is that I suppress the sex hormones my body produces and replace them with female hormones

The major symptom that basically defines being transgender is gender dysphoria, pain or discomfort at the gender of my body

This hormone replacement therapy treats the symptom that is causing me disttess-the symptom of being masculine and treated as a male

My only issue with the entire Transition thing is that there aren't any numbers that suggest a significant decrease in suicidal behavior pre or post HRT, regardless of a lot of factors. It'll be interesting when more information is actually available to see the overall effects this has on those that transitioned and society as a whole - for better or worse. Anecdotes aside.

Well here's a useful tidbit of information that can go into diagnosing a no-start issue in most automobiles- The everyday Otto cycle engine that you'll find in basically every car on the road is at its core an air pump; it uses a partially gas sealed cylinder or cylinders and the reciprocation therein to create a pressure differential relative to the atmosphere to draw fluid into those cylinders- In the internal combustion engine we take advantage of this pressure differential by including a combustible liquid (usually gasoline) in this fluid drawn from atmospheric pressure to the negative pressure developed within the cylinder which is then mechanically sealed, compressed and ignited to create a subsonic conflagration exerting force through expanding gas to continue the chain reaction, expel used fluid and start the cycle over again- Knowing this, the internal combustion engine abides by what is colloquially known as the "the triangle of combustion," the basic principle behind creating fire wherein three components (fuel, air, and spark or a source of ignition) are required: remove one of these elements and you won't have fire and in this case you won't have a running engine.

Diagnosing a no-start condition in a car is based around remembering the triangle of combustion but has a few caveats; the engine needs to turn over to be able to start the chain reaction so the most basic diagnosis that generally comes up is a dead battery- A dead battery can be confusing to the layman because even though the battery might have enough juice to power the dome light, dash lights, radio; it takes a lot of power to turn over an engine from a dead stop. Tell tale sign of a dead battery that still has a little power left is when you turn the key in the ignition you'll hear a *CLICK CLICK CLICK* of the starter solenoid throwing the bendix toward the flywheel but not having enough electricity to actual turn it over (starter solenoid is part of a starter motor which is an electric motor used to turn the engine over a few times on startup). Charging the battery or getting a jump start should always be your first move when encountering a no-start condition.

Charging the battery also assists in the next parts where in cars with electronic controls, the computers often require a base voltage before they'll start engine management processes that control fuel and spark- Air is generally not the problem since it is difficult to remove air from the equation when a mechanical butterfly valve is what meters air; though air can be an adjacent problem via something like the mass airflow sensor; a sensor in the intake which tells the engine the amount of air being taken in, periodically cleaning this sensor with MAF cleaner can be worthwhile to mitigate this occasional problem.

Spark is often the next problem I see, where spark plug wires are either physically damaged, coil packs are damaged or unseated, or spark plug boots are not fully pressed onto spark plugs- Coil pack damage can often be heard through a characteristic high voltage arcing to ground in the engine bay that is a loud and consistent *SNAP SNAP SNAP.* If all spark plug wires seem uniform and undamaged, the actual condition and spark quality of the plugs themselves can be checked by removing one or multiple in sequence, inserting them into a spark plug boot, setting them against a metal portion of the engine and turning the engine over, seeing if there is a telltale and bright electrical arc between the terminal and ground strap of the plug.

Fuel can be odd to deal with for the everyman since it often has high pressure connections that most people won't be able to piss with, but most fueling issues don't deal with these connections but rather the fuel pump in the fuel tank itself which can fail under various circumstances. Checking a fuel pump is rather simple; locate the fuel tank on your car, make sure you have easy access to it in a quiet area and turn the key to the "on" position, but not start- Quickly get next to the fuel tank or as close as you can to it and put your ear to it or whatever panel is in direct or near direct contact with it. Fuel pumps are just an electric motor that pressurizes fuel line to the engine so you should be able to hear a muffled or even loud "whirrrrrring" sound for a few seconds as the pump primes the lines. Try a few times and barring you have a mechanical fuel pump; if you can't hear this statistics say the fuel pump is dead. Diagnosing the rest of a high pressure fuel system similar to other more complicated no-start conditions isn't something most people will be outfitted to tackle outside of clearing trouble codes- If your car is in the US and made after 1996 it will have a socket made to accept OBD-II (onboard diagnostic 2) readers to tell mechanics or owners the exact problem, but I've encountered problems where the trouble code doesn't match the mechanical assessment. If you're able to get to an auto parts store it's worth getting a loaner OBD-II scan tool (no cost) and clearing these trouble codes to provide a baseline to work with and possibly fix the problem if it was an electronic glitch.
