It was a mix of both. Back then, the student body was MUCH smaller, and the overall atmosphere was very conservative and Christian. They called assemblies to tell kids not to wear South Park or Eminem shirts to school and not to watch Jackass, too.
But the "bukaw!" thing was getting way out of hand. Every time there was even a moment's silence you'd hear it. It was kinda funny, though. You'd hear some kid up the hall do it in another class and everyone in your room would bust out laughing.

Queen's are very scary pieces, my coworker became very anxious about my queen so close to his king so early in the game, and he commented about it several times out loud during the game. of course i just kept silent, its all a ruse of course, he was still perfectly well defended, it just made him play poorly and he tried too hard to defend his queen too, instead of trading or using her to make an opening

You can just get a CFL lightbulb. 2 would be better, one in red spectrum, one in blue. Sounds like you're gonna use dirt, which is okay but is more susceptible to pests even indoors. And for most herbs potting soils should have the nutrients you need unless you're going for a mega big ass basil plant like we were talking about the other morning.
And nutrients aren't that expensive. One bottle and you won't need more for a long time. Like I use 3mL/gallon of water for sprouts for example.

That's true, but you never actually get to take the king piece, because by the time you get to them, the game is already over. In a lot of my games I feel like the perceived threat of what the opponent thinks can happen potentially helps you more than what you can realistically get done on the board. The better the person knows the game, the less this can happen because they are aware of their moves and your potential good counter moves well in advance, and if you don't play their game their way you get cooked.
