Not really. Those characters are specifically denoted as different by unicode because they take the full width of a chinese/korean/japanese character rather than half the width. All that's happening there is kearning them which to be fair happens to the normal roman characters anyway but if they're kearned they're just normal english text without subpixel rendering and doesn't take on fonts properly.
