I don't much care for any widely accepted definition. Definitions are great, but that just isn't how language works. We all have words in our head, and we have our own definitions for them. They usually fall in-line with a definition we learned somewhere, or a colloquial definition that we picked up. Regardless of where we got it, that is usually the definition we use, and those do not always match person to person. In fact, they rarely do, which is why we needed a standardized dictionary.
The downside is that the meaning of words change over time. We start using certain words as euphemisms so that it sounds better. Criminal becomes delinquent, because we don't want to call kids criminals. Execution becomes euthanize. An asshole becomes a jerk. A jerk becomes a meanie. And we lose what these words really mean. We dumb down, and take the life out of our language, for the sake of not hurting anybody's feelings.

But it's also a fact we can't fight. It has been tried numerous times. We even tried to unify all languages, which I would support even today, but it was universally rejected.
Definitions are more like guidelines for language. Since we're not going to ever be following the rules 100%, our efforts are better spent encouraging people (especially children) to extend their vocabulary and pronounce words correctly.
Euphemisms don't change the original word's meaning.
An oft-seen example is the word faggot meaning a bundle of sticks. You could argue that faggots can't be dumb, because sticks aren't conscious anyway. It's just that no one would take you seriously. You are correct according to one definition, and incorrect according to another.
On that note, I seem to observe the opposite.. we are policing words that relate to sexual activities, while letting words like torture, murder, etc. off scot-free.
What words we censor and which we don't change with the current politics, that's definitely true, but the biggest problem remains historical studies in the future becoming needlessly inaccurate and tedious because the source texts are just atrocious and dictionaries are reluctant to make official any new meaning given to some old or new word.

And that's all definitions can ever do. Be a temporarily stable reference for words that will eventually evolve their meanings once the old meaning loses significance.
They aren't laws, or behests, that are immutable. Not even our grammar is. that's just how language is: since it needs to be efficient at communicating concepts and intent, as soon as those change, the words we use have to change necessarily. If we don't feel like changing the words themselves, the definition will have to change. It sucks in part because our languages are too rigid to be changed on the fly (and still be understood naturally). I'm thinking of a sort of modular language based around concepts.
The bastardization of words like rape and such will change its meaning eventually, because gawking is only mildly offensive, eventually, the word rape won't be impactful enough to be used in concordance with legitimate rape offences. This is kind of how you deflate words you want to get rid of to start with. I don't think the attempts are working at all when it comes to rape, but even if they do, we innately consider physical rape to be worse, the one word has to change no matter what, so it's a losing battle.
When we use the word 'cunt' as frequently as the australians do, you can't insult people hard with it anymore. Ironically, this means that to censor words is to afford them the power you don't want those words to have.

But what about if you're looking for a word that describes a situation that initially sucked, but then by accident granted you some advantage? If we had a modular language, you could just stack the concepts into a single (probably long-ish) word without using a whole sentence, certainly five times faster than trying to remember the phrase "blessing in disguise". But it's not what people want, so whatever. They think language is a necessary component of culture or something. I think that by unifying language, culture could thrive more freely anyway, if that's what you care about I guess. I've always found that english does the same thing, and people overestimate how much we do it anyway.
For examples, battleship, painkiller and compartmentalization are compound words that see a lot of use. Most of our compound words are no longer than 2 single words, too.
However, we have a potential for infinite growth, whereas english sometimes has to resort to the bridge words "of" or "in" to keep it going.
The worst thing I have ever seen, on ebay incidentally, was "Eierschalensollbruchstellenverursacher". And I kind of think it's a joke, because someone that genuinely wants a way to open their breakfast eggs easily will not be able to find this very quickly, making it nonsensical in business terms.
