I've never read Lovecraft but that notion seems kinda divorced from a matter of effort, I just take particular offense to things that are quite plainly lathering King with tongue baths when he was mediocre at best. I'd also disagree on the notion of effort when out of your own mouth they're aping Lovecraft and I see about 100 things King (who is pretty low test) would call copyright on. It's not original, is what I'm saying, not even the best Lovecraft/King homage (Super 8) in recent memory. Originality is the real cutting of the veritable mustard and Stranger Things ain't no Tarkovsky film.

The initial draw for me was a horrifying, near-lovecraftian dream I had which is why the show was initially recommended to me. I get the relations to King that you mention though, however, the silent hill aspect I also see and somewhat feel more skeptical about.. The issue is that I crave for complexity in my media and stuggle to find anything worth my time, Lovecraft and Silent Hill 1-4 have been, even at their worst, worth my time. I've stuggled to find anything else as influential or inspirational as either. If you don't mind my asking, would you say that Tarkovsky is something which I may connect to?

I wouldn't say Stranger Things is complex so much as it is a well made piece of media that brings semi-niche concepts to a mass appeal- Nothing /WRONG/ with that, just I think you'd be blowing smoke up your own ass if you call it particularly complex- The fact that Netflix chose to green light it as a series would make it pretty middle of the road as far as 'high concept' goes. Sorta my opinion, mind, but I'd say it's backed up by corporate market tendencies.
Tarkovsky might appeal to you if you liked it for the semi casual reasons I did- I grew up on kinda bleak, lonely and nihilistic movies like Vanishing Point, which were more complex if not terribly /deep/. Tarkovsky and specifically Stalker then Solaris kinda hit the same notes as what I enjoyed from things like Vanishing Point and Two Lane Blacktop.

It's all a give and take feel, finding things that light my fire, make me feel good, nostalgic or appareciate something well made- Just what works for me, I'm not an artist, I'm a simple man.

Feelings are philosophy- Philosophy was inherently born out of a natural curiosity to answer the questions of "why." Why the way things are the way they are, why we do the things we do, why we feel the way we feel- Emotion is a part of it, not a mutually exclusive dichotomy. When I say I'm a simple man I talk about what it means to me, or what it makes me feel, I don't get into film theory, or what things means as a post-structuralist critique of harmful accepted cultural norms handed down by Charlie Chaplin or whatever. That's a bunch of bullshit I don't have use for.

Wait hang on, why can't our experiences govern our humanity? All of our learning is environmental, ie; experience- Actually for that matter what are you predicating "humanity" as? Anyhow if our experience is environmental, learning, can't someone be treated really shitty and that warp we know or accept to be their "humanity?"
I get the feeling like you're talking out of your ass, hombre. Why don't you quit while you're ahead and we'll call this a friendly chewing of the fat?

Nice (/ˈniːs/, French pronunciation: [nis]; Niçard Occitan: Niça, classical norm, or Nissa, nonstandard, pronounced [ˈnisa]; Italian: Nizza [ˈnittsa]; Greek: Νίκαια; Latin: Nicaea) is the fifth most populous city in France and the capital of the Alpes-Maritimes département. The urban area of Nice extends beyond the administrative city limits, with a population of about 1 million[1][2] on an area of 721 km2 (278 sq mi).[1] Located in the French Riviera, on the south east coast of France on the Mediterranean Sea, at the foot of the Alps, Nice is the second-largest French city on the Mediterranean coast and the second-largest city in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region after Marseille. Nice is about 13 kilometres (8 miles) from the principality of Monaco, and its airport is a gateway to the principality as well.
The city is nicknamed Nice la Belle (Nissa La Bella in Niçard), which means Nice the Beautiful, which is also the title of the unofficial anthem of Nice, written by Menica Rondelly in 1912.
The area of today's Nice contains Terra Amata, an archaeological site which displays evidence of a very early use of fire. Around 350 BC, Greeks of Marseille founded a permanent settlement and called it Nikaia, after Nike, the goddess of victory.[3] Through the ages, the town has changed hands many times. Its strategic location and port significantly contributed to its maritime strength. For centuries it was a dominion of Savoy, and was then part of France between 1792 and 1815, when it was returned to Piedmont-Sardinia until its re-annexation by France in 1860.
The natural beauty of the Nice area and its mild Mediterranean climate came to the attention of the English upper classes in the second half of the 18th century, when an increasing number of aristocratic families took to spending their winters there. The city's main seaside promenade, the Promenade des Anglais ("Walkway of the English') owes its name to visitors to the resort.[4] The clear air and soft light have particularly appealed to notable painters, such as Marc Chagall, Henri Matisse, Niki de Saint Phalle and Arman. Their work is commemorated in many of the city's museums, including Musée Marc Chagall, Musée Matisse and Musée des Beaux-Arts.[5] Nice has the second largest hotel capacity in the country[6] and it is one of its most visited cities, receiving 4 million tourists every year.[7] It also has the third busiest airport in France, after the two main Parisian ones.[8] It is the historical capital city of the County of Nice (Comté de Nice).
