I wouldn't say Stranger Things is complex so much as it is a well made piece of media that brings semi-niche concepts to a mass appeal- Nothing /WRONG/ with that, just I think you'd be blowing smoke up your own ass if you call it particularly complex- The fact that Netflix chose to green light it as a series would make it pretty middle of the road as far as 'high concept' goes. Sorta my opinion, mind, but I'd say it's backed up by corporate market tendencies.

Tarkovsky might appeal to you if you liked it for the semi casual reasons I did- I grew up on kinda bleak, lonely and nihilistic movies like Vanishing Point, which were more complex if not terribly /deep/. Tarkovsky and specifically Stalker then Solaris kinda hit the same notes as what I enjoyed from things like Vanishing Point and Two Lane Blacktop.
