Gankutsuou the Count of Monte Cristo was so fucking good for just the right reasons. Poor guy gets betrayed and decides to get revenge, only lives for revenge and nothing else, uses everyone for the sole purpose of revenge. No moral faggotry like in shield hero or any revenge story, just plain revenge.

The did still keep the element of his revenge going far beyond it's own reasoning and hurting plenty of innocent people, they just went for the corruption angle instead of him rebuking it like the book. Making the protagonist not the one seeking revenge, and making neither of them the most heroic one also worked out well.

Just enough of a spin on things to keep it interesting compared to the average revenge story.

Fuck both of you, Shield Hero is generic garbage that got everyone hooked with cool ass shit like false rape charges and slavery... only to ditch it all a while later with a Mary Sue MC white knighting his balls off and a ridiculusly unimaginative rendition of isekai. All the characters are cardboard cutouts with no depth, the plot nosedives after the first few chapters, and even the world is uninteresting dross. The only people hooked on it are lolifags jacking it to a literal overgrown chicken and faggots with no semblance of taste.
