Pretty much everything from animation to directing(?) to art quality got a downgrade.
Especially the fight scenes are very hard to read now, animation flows badly from scene to scene and has less weight. The new studio doesn't know how to render metallic objects and sucks at directing the scenes. It also seems like they don't where to put effort and where not to, because some random shit with King seemed decent while key shots where a character is panned over look like trash, pics related.

Here's 3 different ways that S1 rendered metal for comparison, all of them look better than what the new animation has. Pretty much anything that has machinery or metal looks significantly higher quality and more detailed and accurate in S1.
That's not to say metal is the only thing they got wrong though, but it's harder to show without making webms and I can't be bothered.

Here's a low quality comparison. S1 art is more accurate and the animation has a coreography of sorts, S2 feels all over the place in comparison.

Basically the action scene felt like something out of a modern hollywood action movie. Shots were too close with not a single shot having Genos and the robot in clear view. Cuts were jarring and didn't flow well(one obvious example is one where Genos is being thrown at a parking complex, one shot has him flying, second shot has him in some part in the complex with stairs). Genos didn't feel as well animated and designed as before, with a lot of the action shots being focused on arms extending or shooting flames or something on that level.

First clip has a little stretch and squash. That doesn't automatically make it better. The opposite is in fact true. There's more effect in the second clip with snappiery direction. That dust cloud alone disqualifies your argument. Even if you disagree that the first episode of the second season is better than that one clip you cherry picked from the first season any reasonable person would say the second season is certainly not bad.

>You can't even really follow whats going on in the S2 webm.
I don't get this complaint. What is so hard to follow on the second clip? I wish people were more specific. The complaint about "bad direction" is also too vague. That first clip on >>96458 also showed a lot more character movement than the second one, so I made another clip from the same fight for comparison.
Mind you I don't have a dog in this fight and don't want to blindly defend S2, but I still don't see this big drop in quality that some anons are claiming. My biggest complaints are the shaky camera, but S1 had some of that too; and that art direction changed slightly, it's even more obvious on close ups of Genos's face. Overall, S2 looks fine to me.
We'll see how the rest of teh season will go, I might change my opinion later on but so far it's positive.

>cherry picked
I tried to find a scene that's as similar as possible, I can't recall any other Genos fights that have similar action without picking some important bossfight and then you'd really be complaining about cherrypicking. The webm is supposed to show animation quality, but you seem to be arguing in favor of more action. It's very hard to find a good comparison but if you want more action then here you go.
The problem is that there's nothing much better in the new episode, the whole thing is basically the same quality. Meanwhile I could "cherrypick" several scenes and screenshots of higher quality from almost any S1 episode. You can isolate individual parts where the animation is decent, for example where Genos does a roll in the air, but it's a looping animation that doesn't start from nor transition to anything, and the next cut is him snapping onto the ground with no weight.
All I'm really arguing for is that the animation and art quality is worse than S1, whether it will be good regardless is another topic.

From what I saw, the lines were thinner along with different style and colors are "textured".
Animation wise, it was fine but it didn't had "big" fights yet. There's nice touches like when Genos is jumping away with laser light reflected by his body.
I think it's good for a first episode to hook up people, if the climax is as good as S1's last episode I'm fine with that.
I'll probably re-evaluate once all episodes are here.

It's okay. The drop in animation quality is noticeable, especially if you go watch any given S1 episode right before or after this. Isn't a different studio doing this season? Even if the quality is still decent, there's bound to be a noticeable change. They may also be spreading the time and money going into the show more thinly, but giving it more episodes, since there's a ton of shit in the Garou arc.

The first episode wasn't bad, the real hard times have yet to come. Most importantly, this was one of the rare cases where Saitama gets some development in between Boros and Garou.
The ruin is going to be the Murata fillers, specifically that shitty tenkaichi tournament with not-Ranma. I wonder if they will get to Garou skipping shit, or they will just drop the arc midway.

Not >>98738 but I was going to reject that because of moments like the elder centipede known for surviving Blast but I can totally see a scenario where Blast is future saitama.
He could have been Saitama from an alternate timeline where he didn't train until later in life, no hero association was there because he didn't encourage the son of that investor to annoy the crab guy, heroes he inspired and people he didn't save (including other heroes) died, and he had to save that timeline again and again with a fraction of the potential he would have had if he trained in his youth.
So he visits the past to set the groundwork for the hero association, to make heroes stronger, get himself started earlier, and then leaves to see if the changes paid off - hence why he comes and goes.

Murata didn't believe in One and was only there to latch on his success. All of these are signs of lack of confidence in the source material. Notice how the average remake reader is always lauding the art and fights, never the merits in One's story which was once the focus of the discussion.
I have a theory that One has been back to his webcomic because Murata tried to strip him of the property rights.

Holy shit, you really are retarded like a redditor. No self respecting anon would lift that crap argument from there. You have to judge the story's merits, not who the fuck is writing it.
You don't have trouble with notion that George Lucas or Atlus inject incompatible or pandering crap in their own remakes, so here's the same issue with the One sponsored filler in Murata's run. Diluting Garou's arc with endless filler has ruined pace and focus, which is what people liked in the original.

Koreans in Japan
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ™
>Koreans in Japan (在日韓国人・在日本朝鮮人・朝鮮人 Zainichi-Kankoku-Jin or Zainihonchosenjin or Chōsen-jin) comprise ethnic Koreans who have permanent residency status in Japan or who have become Japanese citizens and whose immigration to Japan originated before 1945 or who are descendents of those immigrants. They are a distinct group from South Korean nationals who have emigrated to Japan after the end of World War II and the division of Korea.
>They currently constitute the second largest ethnic minority group in Japan after Chinese immigrants due to many Koreans assimilating into the general Japanese population.[2] The majority of Koreans in Japan are Zainichi Koreans (在日韓国人 Zainichi Kankokujin), often known simply as Zainichi (在日, "Japan resident"), who are the permanent ethnic Korean residents of Japan. The term Zainichi Korean refers only to long-term Korean residents of Japan who trace their roots to Korea under Japanese rule, distinguishing them from the later wave of Korean migrants who came mostly in the 1980s,[3] and from pre-modern immigrants dating back to antiquity who may themselves be the ancestors of the Japanese people.[4]
>The Japanese word "Zainichi" itself means a foreign citizen "staying in Japan" and implies temporary residence.[5] Nevertheless, the term "Zainichi Korean" is used to describe settled permanent residents of Japan, both those who have retained either their Joseon or South Korean/North Korean nationalities, and even sometimes, but not always, includes Japanese citizens of Korean descent who acquired Japanese nationality by naturalization or by birth from one or both parents who have Japanese citizenship.
Slavery
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ™
>Slavery is any system in which principles of property law are applied to people, allowing individuals to own, buy and sell other individuals, as a de jure form of property.[1] A slave is unable to withdraw unilaterally from such an arrangement and works without remuneration. Many scholars now use the term chattel slavery to refer to this specific sense of legalised, de jure slavery. In a broader sense, however, the word slavery may also refer to any situation in which an individual is de facto forced to work against their own will. Scholars also use the more generic terms such as unfree labour or forced labour to refer to such situations.[2] However, and especially under slavery in broader senses of the word, slaves may have some rights and protections according to laws or customs.
>Slavery existed in many cultures [3] since the time before written history. A person could become enslaved from the time of their birth, capture, or purchase.
>Slavery was legal in most societies at some time in the past, but is now outlawed in all recognized countries.[4][5] The last country to officially abolish slavery was Mauritania in 2007. Nevertheless, there are an estimated 40.3 million people worldwide subject to some form of modern slavery.[6] The most common form of modern slave trade is commonly referred to as human trafficking. In other areas, slavery (or unfree labour) continues through practices such as debt bondage, the most widespread form of slavery today,[2] serfdom, domestic servants kept in captivity, certain adoptions in which children are forced to work as slaves, child soldiers, and forced marriage.[7]

Slide show
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ™
>A slide show is a presentation of a series of still images on a projection screen or electronic display device, typically in a prearranged sequence. The changes may be automatic and at regular intervals or they may be manually controlled by a presenter or the viewer. Slide shows originally consisted of a series of individual photographic slides projected onto a screen with a slide projector. When referring to the video or computer-based visual equivalent, in which the slides are not individual physical objects, the term is often written as one word, slideshow.[citation needed]
>A slide show may be a presentation of images purely for their own visual interest or artistic value, sometimes unaccompanied by description or text, or it may be used to clarify or reinforce information, ideas, comments, solutions or suggestions which are presented verbally. Slide shows are sometimes still conducted by a presenter using an apparatus such as a carousel slide projector or an overhead projector, but now the use of an electronic video display device and a computer running presentation software is typical.

ONE is a shit writer. He has Kubo's habit of not willing to kill any of the 'good guys'.
This can be seen extensively in the Garou's Arc, where the Monster Association suffered heavy casualties while the heroes suffered none.
The same goes with Sea King Arc. Mumen Rider and the other A-class heroes should've been killed, but no. It's family friendly bullshit.

While you're screaming fanboy you're ignoring the obvious. Mumen Rider lived so he could get beat up by Garou. Mumen Rider serves as a pathetic punching bag, pathetic in the sense that you root and feel sorry for him. I'm sorry this has to be explained to you. You may not like it, but this is what peak story conventions look like.
Speaking of Garou, later Garou beats up more heroes but doesn't kill them. Him not killing is important to how he's spared. ONE-sensei is evidently a master of classical storytelling, and we should be celebrating the fact that he delivered this in a parody and satire of shonen and superhero cliches. Once you finally "get it," you'll appreciate the series more. Trust me, you'll get there. We're all going to make it.

Is there a way to really know? It's kinda hard for me to just immediately blame ONE, because his version is still excellent. Murata's version is too slow-paced for its own good, and that doesn't really seem to work for this series. I still appreciate Murata's ability to draw a Tatsumaki that makes my dick rock hard. I read ONE's for the story, and Murata's to save the really important pages for later. The anime may end up not even being worth watching. Kinda sad.

Wouldn't say that I agree with this either, but I don't think it's necessarily wrong to do that. I would say that caring about this kind of detail is more of a western thing. Japanese people probably care more about the themes of the story than the actual mechanics. That was a great scene that couldn't have happened if ONE didn't do what he did. You couldn't have a scene with a weakling struggling against impossible odds if Mumen Rider was just immediately killed in one hit. Personally, I don't give much of a shit, but if you care that much, just make excuses like people have been doing for decades, for almost every shonen ever. Maybe he didn't hit Mumen Rider that hard because he knew that he was dealing with a weakling, so there's no reason to even try. If he gets up, it doesn't matter. Just hit him again. More fun for the monster, right? Besides, even the weaker heroes seem to be pretty durable in this series. They never die, so I assume that aren't as easy to kill as they look, even though they are basically useless against any significant threat.

Don't be upset when you realize this is a lot simpler to "get" than how it seems. There is a lot of depth to ONE's writing, and Murata did an excellent job capturing that for what it's worth. Maybe if you reread the story carefully, and slowly, its deeper meaning and comedy will stick out to you.

In so much that it's a comedy, it still counts as a comedic scene.
Going over the scene again, yes Mumen Rider was wrecked. Guess what: this is a comedic setup and the crowd cheering for him is what sold it.
Everything built up with dramatic irony and the audience (meta) knew he was being set up to fail; really, it was a master stroke of dark comedy and parody - as in most shonen that would have been the scene where the hero triumphs now that he's been cheered on.
>>muh you didn't prove anything

>he could've made Sea King to be less bloodthirsty
Well, the Sea King didn't kill anyone at all even though that was his only goal, so clearly he was just kind of a typical incompetent villain that doesn't take his goals all that seriously. It would have made more sense if he wasn't angry, but the scene wouldn't have as much impact. Besides, people do survive things that they shouldn't be able to even in real life. I don't care that much either way. But as far a shonen is concerned, not really a problem, especially since it's less serious than most, and it's nowhere near as ridiculous as it could be. At least the fight didn't last 30 episodes and he didn't transform three times before saying "I am only using 1% of my true power", or something like that. We really don't need another one of those. Worth doing once, but certainly not twice.
>A better assumption would be that ONE contracted Kubo's unwillingness to kill the 'good guys'.
People just don't die all that much in this series. The only human deaths that I remember right now that we have actually seen were the giant's brother, and the people that Sonic killed early on, but he's a completely different kind of character from everyone else. Monsters are supposedly trying to kill people, but we pretty much never see them do it. It's just not something ONE does, generally. Not his style, I guess. It's just not that kind of story, because it's still supposed to be pretty goofy for the most part.

No it wasn't always about battles. It was about Saitama bumbling his way to become a hero for a hobby while indirectly being strong enough to be the greatest hero, saving the world from massive threats.
He wasn't trying to defeat the house of evolution, the mosquito invaded his house
He wasn't trying to defeat boros, he wanted to schmoose with other popular heroes to become a popular hero too
He wasn't trying to defeat Garou, something was happening at the bottom of his apartment and wanted to stop it
There was never such a focus on power levels, inner hero politics, world politics. There is was a comedic setup to how he got there, a comedic setup about the bizarre goals of him vs the villans ideals, and an actually funny battle.

Most hate originates from the tournament having been frankenstein'ed into the middle of Garou's arc. It could have been done well, had it been a parody of shonen tournaments.
Instead: 1. It became what was supposed to parody; and 2. the speech of the final baddie is spoilerish of Garou's own in the final battle, which is further damage to the arc.

It's a shit motivation tbh. In true nip fashion they try too hard to make the villain be at least a bit relatable, but it doesn't work if his motives were shit to begin with.

It is shit because of both those reasons. Standing alone, It wasn't as funny or as engaging as any of the other battles in the series. I would like to hear your argument on what arc does worst than the tournament arc.

None. But that wasn't part of my original argument. In fact this entire conversation got derailed from my original point. That being that out how shit season 2 is the last issue you can complain about is the actual substance of the story. Because in any case the anime degrades even the merits, as little as they may be, that tournament had.

Jesus fuck. They're covering everything from the manga that was added, haven't finished the tournament, and are already six episodes in? Was there some Japanese only announcement that this season would be twice as long as the last or something? The fucking manga still hasn't finished this arc. At least the animation seems to be getting marginally better.

This change between the webcomic and manga, removing this motivation and replacing it with him being recruited shortly before the raid to help other pros, pisses me off more than all the fucking filler bullshit combined.

Why did ONE suddenly returned to his webcomic, after effectively abandoning it for years? He's putting lots of effort into it, too. Something is going on.
Does he need fresh material for animators to keyframe? Did he foresee the damage that S2 would inflict on the franchise, so he's investing in goodwill?

Murata secondaries have a hard time understanding criticism toward the story themes presented in the tournament filler. Because the main draw is that it's a repeat, and spoiler of Garou's final speech. Which they don't know, since the webcomic is icky and gross.
Mark my words, they will ultimately complain that Garou recycles plot points, once Murata gets there in 5 to 7 years.

Can someone who speaks nihon explain the difference in use between kaiju and bakemono for me? They were clearly used in different situations in the last episode but it seemed like horrible subs just translated them as "monster" and "inhuman" randomly, not consistently or with any real context that made it make sense.

Only thing I can tell you is that kaijuu usually refers to those giant monsters in super hero/toku stuff, and bakemono is just a generic term for "monster" (which can also apply to people, as in "that guy's too strong, he's a monster" and such)

That scene was actually a letdown for me. And made Saitama sound less believable.
People who are super achievers, even when they hit a plateau, enjoy the experience of passing their teachings. If you have amassed reputation and is given praise, it's natural to indulge in those by teaching others.
Saitama's speech however sounds like something someone who hasn't ever achieved much would say, just to make himself feel better for hitting a plateau, and not having to try anything different. King was the real wise man in that case, but we're led to believe Saitama knew what he was talking about.

I'm sitting there thinking of the satire, of the contrast between genuine heroism and powerful people who try to game the system and signal their own virtue, concise jokes that cut to the heart of things. Of course I can't immediately think of a good way to respond that covers all this, because I'm socially retarded, so I sit silent.
"It's the ANIMATION! You can't have a One Punch Man season without fantastic ANIMATION! That's what makes the whole show!" He proudly states as if he knows anything.

He is exaggerating but he is right. Books are not magical, any medium can be thought provoking.
Nobody said that this cartoon is "2deep4you social commentary". But it's writing is what separates OPM from other shounens. Still, it is somewhat missing from anime and manga remakes. This is the main reason why webcomic is still most popular here and people are constantly complaining about the remakes. Even if just a little bit, but decent writing can make any visual medium better. Thought provoking is always better then mindless. And retards like you and his friend are too stupid to appreciate the details. Filthy secondaries.

Watching anime for intellectual pursuits anyways is retarded. Go read a book. Anime doesn't have to be all about vapid garbage, but having pretentious shit that LITERALLY doesn't need to be a part of the plot or makes it even more retarded is stupid. Deepfags are cancer for watching cartoons aimed at teenagers in order to find a "masterpiece". You are all worse than Jordan Petersonfags.

People who liked season 1 for the animation think the second season was terrible because the animation tanked. You're in the thread bitching about how S2 didn't adapt the source material and didn't give you enough to think about, but whatever profound thoughts you wanted to have from the anime you already got from the webcomic, so I don't really understand why you're complaining, how exactly did you think it was going to be enhanced in an anime?
I spend most of my day at work, then I spend a few hours reading a proper book (like for grownups that doesn't have pictures) then I spend a little while watching anime and shitposting. Honestly I probably think harder when I'm dreaming than I do watching anime, it's like the least mentally draining part of my day. If you feel mentally challenged reading webcomics then great. If you feel the need to be mentally challenged watching anime then you need a new hobby, as you noticed it just doesn't do that.
Deep anime, to the extent it ever existed, was OVAs and for a very short period it existed on television in the 90s. Anime took a full turn towards big-3 shounen before I had an income with which I could really support anything so don't blame me for the state of anime.

Ok fair enough. Deep anime didn't completely end in 2000 but it's trajectory was clear before I was spending money on it.
I might check it out sometime.

> I am curious on how the manga will end.
ONE really fucked up this pooch. Overstayed it's welcome then delayed it indefinitely when letting Murata put in his stupid drivel with the redraw.
Mob psycho was paced quickly and kept it consistent with the focus to mobs growth. OPM Lost a lot of good will with the dragging of the tournament arc and now the general focus on hero rankings and power levels with the mystery box that is blast. Unless ONE starts showing a major reveal of Genos's main enemy, blast, garo, the ladys calamity prediction, or Saitama goes evil, then he his wasting my time.

Well written comedy does not equal 2deep4u. OPM was well written comedy, not some pretentious Re:Creators vomit. Simple no nonsense writing that cuts straight to the point is the opposite of abstract 2deep4u fluff, so I think you guys are on a ridiculous track anyway.
Basing your opinion on "normalfags like THIS so I won't" is also pathetic. Who cares what normalfags like or why? It's better to enjoy the shit you enjoy than get worked up over something like that. If anything, the biggest problem with normalfags is the way they posture to appear cool to whatever group they're in. Like the first guy I quoted, the absolute normalfaggot.

I don't know if this >>106669 was you, but I was mainly referring to what he said. It being a well-written comedy is putting it too high on the mark for me but hey, it's your opinion.
And it's not about the fact that normalfags like something. Normalfags love One Punch Man, and I slightly do enjoy it somewhat myself.
It's the fact that normalfags flock to low bar quality things for entertainment. Normalfags have garbage taste and tend to adulate mediocre things. Just look at the capeshit movies coming out recently. Same thing over and over again with a little different flair, and normalfags flock to the movies like a single mother to the welfare on the first of the month. It may sound contrarian, but it's a fact. Plus, as you inferred, when normalfags flock to a hobby or group they always ruin, no exceptions. Just look at cuckchan and the current capeshit community for instance. Absolute garbage.

Fucking how? It was absurdly simple, it didn't try to overcomplicate shit and there was no 'big twist' or other 'deep' stuff.
>creations of authors/artists etc get brought to life
>mastermind White-haired girl is trying to destroy the world out of assmad rage over the one who created her suiciding
Simple as fuck.

It's also one of the best moments showing saitama being saitama. I didn't like his dialogue before the orochi fight in the redraw because he came across as arrogant. On this page we see him being his usual bored self who just wants flashy flash to stop bothering him.

Maybe it really should have ended with Boros.
>"dominator of the universe" has been traveling the universe looking for a match but easily defeats everyone, making him bored
>follows a prophecy to reach someone who's in the same situation, Saitama
>Saitama sympathizes with him and decides to give him the good fight he's been looking for
>first enemy to not die from one punch, he doesn't even seem hurt
>after beating each other and getting more and more desperate, Boros uses his final attack releasing all of his energy to destroy Saitama along with the planet
>Saitama counters it by using a serious punch for the first time
>even after a serious punch Boros is still left with the last bit of breath to exchange final words with the only person in the universe that could fight him
>Saitama effectively confirmed as the strongest being in the universe, never to find anyone who he couldn't defeat with one punch

The last episode was especially shit. The sounds for elder centipede were incredibly awful. They were more suited to an asthmatic old man than a gargantuan kaiju style monster a couple kilometers long. On top of that the cgi effects made him look more like a kite than a living creature.

As much as I love Murata's art, he really dropped the ball interpreting this panel transition.
By making Atomic Samurai's swing completely different from the stance he takes in the next panel, Murata fails to recapture how terrifyingly fast Black Sperm can grow. (In context, I know Atomic Samurai can move much faster than the drop of his cape, but that's beside the point of composition.)
The panels in ONE's version are also consistently horizontal, while Murata's unnecessary verticals break the transition.

This fight is also a good example of why murata doesn't get what made one punch man good. Here we have an asspull with virtually no build up, and it contradicts how black sperm's ability actually works. Even if reduced to dust he can still multiply from that. Furthermore if you can kill before he splits he ceases being a serious threat compared to most of the monsters we've seen before.
