What are some garbage trainwrecks that you couldn't stop watching from start to end?

King's game is a good example; everything about it is trash, yet I can't stop watching it because every scene has something really special about it. It's like The Room of anime, it's perfection.

I know people might think this is bait purely because the shows are popular and you're not allowed to criticise them online but Kill la Kill, Madoka Magica, Gurren Laggan and K-On. Probably >>9871 as well, which could have been great if it had not focused on romance and tried so hard to be overly emotional when the things the characters go through are not relatable at all.

>>8730

Fuck you, that show was a masterpiece.

King's game (the characters are so fucking stupid and unrealistic)

It could have been funny if it had not taken itself serious and was purely a comedy show making fun of traps but instead it feels like pro-tranny propaganda.

You know the common thing about all those anime? They're anime originals. Anime original tend to suffer after the second half because the writers are forced to write the a few weeks before the anime airs and sometimes still writing the story as the anime airs. This causes the anime to have a promising start only to fall flat at the end because either writers block or time constraints. K-On counts as anime original because Kyoani has a habit of diverting from the source material to the point it's completely different.

 No.9882

KnK was original?

 No.9890

>>9881

Care to tell the differences between the K-On manga and anime? I did feel like it had a lot of potential but it tried to focus too much on being "moe" which left a lot to be desired during the more emotional moments of the show.

You're right that Kill la Kill and Gurren Lagann went bad during the second cour because the writers didn't know how to properly end the story, they both started out great. Madoka Magica on the other hand was absolute garbage from the start and pretty much the only reason why it got popular is because those who watched it seasonally did not expect it to take a darker turn plot-wise. Yet when you're already aware of this beforehand there's nothing left, the "twist" was the only remarkable aspect of the show, it does not actually tell an interesting story nor does it have well-written characters.

Isekai wa Smartphone?

You should give the novels a go, they're even worse.

It's literally "and then I… and then I… and then I…" It reads like a 13 year olds first fanfic. I got up to volume 5 before I gave up when you find out that the reason Touya us so overpowered is because god accidentally re-made his body with materials from the divine realm, making his body more like a gods than that of a human.

Maybe it's the kind of series that's only really meant for kids though or the same mouth breathers that consider SAO to be the pinnacle of anime and that's why someone who's 33 years old isn't able to get it.

There's this whole sub-plot about the Phrase as well, but every time they fight one of them they finish it off with little to no effort, so they don't even seem like all that much of a threat as they're being set up to be.

Did you not watch the second season? It's the real reason people recommend it. First season is just build up.

To be honest throughout volume 5 I don't recall him using it. He considered using it against some giant ancient summoned beast when he goes to the Ramissh Theocracy but I don't remember if he actually does or not. Either way he ends up leveling a few city blocks.

Slip has basically become the running joke of the series, or at least that's how the writer treats it.

I believe it was an original as in Kyoanus hired the person to write the LN with the intent of animating it and turning it into a long running IP like Shana. Which they fucked up. It was shit all around the Idol episode was the only worth while one.

Little Witch Academia.

I kept watching it for some good magical lore, witchy adventures and a dash of yuri.

I barely got any, and instead I got some political bullshit that didn't go anywhere. The lore and worldbuilding suck balls.

Did you start watching it from the second cour?

 No.12619

>>12613

>Did you start watching it from the second cour?

Are you implying that the first half was any good?

It wasn't. You can take all of the episodes of the first half combined and it still won't be a match for the original OVA.

The second OVA, the Enchanted Parade was also bad; it's only saving grace being Amanda.

 No.12625

>>12608

The OVAs were great but the TV anime was bland and full of QUALITY. I think it would have worked out better as a one cour show.

 No.12627

>>12625

Only the first OVA was great.

The second was meh. It was extremely cliche.

The TV series was just bad; probably because the writers didn't know what to do with the show.

I personally think that the show would've been much better if it was set in a magical fantasy world instead of the modern world.

 No.12792

>>12627

I can agree the second OVA wasn't as good as the first. I don't think the modern setting hurt the TV anime as much as stretching a thin budget and storyline over two cours. I think a lot of the aimless feeling of the TV anime was the result of them having to pad the fuck out of a fairly simple storyline.

 No.12797

>>12608

I dropped it by the third episode because Akko was a massive retard who refused to act like a real person. She insisted on believing she could do anything with magic if she really tried, and then proceeded to sleep through her fucking classes, not learn anything, and then act she knew shit. The show made me want to blow my fucking brains out each and every episode.

 No.12872

>>12619

>Are you implying that the first half was any good?

Yes. Well, I liked it at the time because I really loved Akko. You're right on the lore and worldbuilding. The first OVA is much tighter than the TV series, the latter having filler like the skeleton chasing episode or the fish transformation episode. Episode 6 where Akko gets bunny ears and gets into trouble alongside Andrew is the high point of the first cour in my eyes because it's a mixture of witchy adventures, moving the plot along, and cute Akko.
