>I never heard a vocaloid song.
Vocaloid is a piece of software used to model a human singing voice. Users can create music with the software by putting in a backing track and giving the Vocaloid program a set of lyrics to sing. Hatsune Miku is simply the mascot for the product along with various other characters who represent different voices for the program.
>How do I start being a fan
If you like the robotic voice the program uses, then just find a music genre or artist you like and give them a listen. Some just play the rhythm games and find themselves enjoying the music as time goes on. Or you can not care about the music and appreciate the art.
>is Miku still relevant?
People constantly use Vocaloid still so yes, she's still relevant. They even make many figures of her each year. She probably has the most figurines out of any character out there.
If you want a ton of vocaloid music, then you can easily find it on Nyaa.
