For me, it's Parasyte's manga and mostly faithful anime adaptation, people like to say that it's yet another "humans bad, nature good" shlock, but it really isn't. Multiple times it's shown through the manga that humans are nothing more but animals in the foodchain. That we should value our existence over animals while doing what best we can with the resources this planet provides. The fucking author even makes the mc say he doesn't care about coexisting with the parasites he just wants to survive and fuck his gf. The MC does not cuck down to the parasytes wanting to coexist with the humans anymore and pretty much fucks over the "peace treaty" the parasytes were about to offer humanity.
How anyone can get an "enviromentalist" message from this is beyond me, it's very clear pro humanity first.

>How anyone can get an "enviromentalist" message from this is beyond me
I don't want to invalidade your arguments OP, but the author has no one to blame but himself, as he fucked himself over with the way he ended it. Laying down hints that it doesn't have an enviromentalist but then throwing it all out the window in the end is a bad way to deliver a subtle message.
No.82294
How could Parasytes even coexist with humans if they eat innocent people? If they ate prisoners or bad people in general than sure but not some family.
No.82299

Haha what? Even in the end of the manga he has the MC rescue his gf from a psychopath who figured out he's a parasyte human hybrid. But in this stage he has decided that he too is part of the food chain, and that he'll try to live his life as yet another creature within it. Often times when I talk to people about how this manga/anime is NOT environmentalist, all they can do is bring up the eponymous University lecture on altruism given before
the Milf Parasyte dies.
But honestly if anything that is a VERY huge turning point in the manga, because it shows that Parasytes and humans just aren't compatible enough. Even when a maternal instinct fueled by altruism shows up, their imperative is still to consume and multiply via spores and infecting other organisms. In fact this is what led to Reiko telling Gouto to finish the meal plan as a "compromise" with mankind and a way to infiltrate hummanity.
No.82300
>>82294
Their idea of coexistence was basically infiltrate human politics, trick humans into believing parasytes are superior and the next step of evolution, then use them as cattle to multiply and feed themselves. In their eyes it's a "win-win" scenario, humans get to live, and hey get to reap the benefits of humans being alive.

Aside from the "muh altruism" speech there's a few moments where the author shits on humans a bit.
>we pollute the environment
>we treat other animals badly
>Milf parasyte's altruistic death for the human baby
>literally poisonous shit dumped on to the environment poisons the big bad
>the whole human bullies arc
But ultimately the author multiple times make sure to beat the reader over the head with messages similar to this panel.

I get that he made a case for both sides. I got the message that humans are just as part of nature as any other animal. But I remember they literally say something like "the parasites are not aliens, but were created by the earth as a self-defense mechanism" or something. Sadly it has been too long, and I don't remember the scene exactly, but I think it was Migi who provided the explanation.
If that's not a heavy handed way to kill any open interpretation to your story I don't know what is.
As a side joke/analogy: Imagine if in The Thing's final scene the black guy stood up and shouted "I'M THE MONSTER" and then the movie ends abruptly. You could make post-movie discussions as to why maybe he ISN'T a monster and maybe he was just hallucinating and present evidences A, B, and C or whatever. But going up and blatantly stating one of the alternatives like a mouthpiece is a big drawback to teh story. Just like coming up and sayin "earth is fighting back agains humans" sort of ruined it for me.

The Big O was a pretty clear story of a factory/training center left standing in a world wiped out by nuclear war. In it the androids designed to maintain and pilot the mechs of the war live the same lives on repeat because 'everyone lost their memories 40 years ago' and remain paranoid about an ambiguous 'foreign enemy' because they are functional but their programming is stuck in a loop. The crux of the story is this changes when the more organic looking androids start to fall apart psychologically -probably as they attain something close to real humanity- and in the process one creates a second generation android, a more simplistic and robotic character, that can intergrate with the mechs and this kick starts an arms race as people race to get the power of these 'megadeus' for themselves 'to defend agianst foreign invaders' not knowing its all their programming until near the end 'memories' start to return.
Its basically an anime take on dark city and the idea that if you left an automated, humaoid workforce running on a loop after humanities extinction then eventually like 1000 monkeys eventually writing shakespeare sentience might reveal itself leading to conflict and bloodshed as one of the defining factors of life and its struggle.

The episode where the policeman is chasing a red balloon and a woman as events from his childhood repeat thinking he's going crazy but its ready just because another of his model was put out early. That was like in the middle of the manga/anime when Migi was still an edgelord drunk on "knowledge" and affecting Shinichi's way of thinking. Later on though it's Migi who starts affecting Shinichi and keeping him more grounded into reality and the natural order of things. Also I reread the scene where the Milf Parasyte dies this scene happens. So yeah, parasytes aren't really 100% natural, but technically still competition within the food chain regardless.

It's a theme, but it's not the crux of the message. The message is that we're part of the environment and do affect it, however we shouldn't be so full of ourselves that we think we're above it, or the food chain. Ultimately until we take off to the stars, we're subject to the rules of this planet's ecosystem and we have to do what it takes to survive or die for a tree like a hippy.
Plus while it is a mildly lazy conclusion I love the irony plus meta narrative of it. In

it's implied parasites are either a human creation, or byproduct. Much how poisonous shit in the environment is either a blatant creation or byproduct which ends up killing said parasites. It's a huge implication of the great potential humans have and why parasites wanted to subjugate humanity in the first place. Hell it's even said in that same chapter that Parasites can actually thrive without having to consume humans!
Most parasites chose not to however! Before you claim this is an asspull, remember that it's shown multiple times in both anime and manga Reiko is trying and consuming normal human food. This means it's both instincts and an innate jealousy towards human creativity plus emotion that drives their malicious deeds plus machinations against humanity.

When I was little that episode with the red balloon fucking made me trip the fuck out. It wasn't until the roger smith clones fuckery, plus the fact that the show was a stage being coreographed by Rosewater, that I connected the dots very clearly. Now to be fair I was very young when Big O aired in the US and got it's final season, I was like 8 years old when the first season aired, probably 12 when the second aired. So yeah, it took me quite a while.
What I wonder though is how "organic" the androids are in this show? Obviously the second generation androids like Dorothy are full fledged mechanical. But the wounds Roger takes, and Angel look like those a human, albeit superhuman, would take. So yes, they're clearly not normal humans, but there's clearly more to them than the fleshy exterior lets on. Anyhow, I could probably dig this through the web, but might as well ask here, Big Venus was the Big Deus that was going to erase Paradigm city's memories to make it's populace go through the whole events loop/stage/drama/manga/what have you right?

No.82651

No the manga is saying that despite humans being at the top of the food chain, we shouldn't grow complacent or too full of ourselves. Because we never know when, or if we will get competition from something in the environment regardless of origin. Again we as a species still rely on this planet and can still fall prey to anything introduced into it's ecosystem.
That small paragraph above really makes me wish the new Jurassic Park films weren't complete fucking garbage. To me that's what those films were striving for, but it's all so poorly fleshed out.

Maybe the manga is different, but in the anime the pacing and storytelling goes to complete shit in the last 3 episodes. In the anime, the protag explicitly says: "maybe the parasites weren't our enemies after all…in a weird way, they were kind of our friends."
Complete cucked faggotry. Again, maybe the manga was different, I haven't read it; but the anime was clearly 'muh coexist with those trying to murder you' garbage.
And an aside, environmentalism isn't bad as such, but it becomes bad when you fall for the marxist version of it, which is that humans unnatural and evil.

Actually, the Marxist version of it is that truly sustainable environmentalism is impossible under an economy dominated by the profit-driven private dictatorships (businesses).
No.82984

No, that's not true at all. Marxists view humans and nature as separate and opposed to eachother, rather than the truth that man is part of nature.
The only systems which ever actually protected the environment in practice and not in words only, were Nationalsocialism and Fascism. Both of them are a thousand times more environmentalist than marxism ever was or could ever be.

In the mango he means companions in the foodchain. In fact this was done on purpose since it's after his GF points out that crime has been on the rise. Depending on whether or not the dialogue was "fixed" for the anime or not, that could have very well altered the message significantly. There is some level of cuckoldry involved though I will admit. Now that I take a second glance, the MC doesn't want to exterminate the things yet, despite them still committing crimes.
