Dororo was perhaps the only Tezuka manga that got axed which is why he skipped past a lot of the demons, there were originally 48 demons planned and only 5 or so ended up being shown. He also did nothing with the fact that Dororo is a girl. There was an older anime from around the time the manga came out which had a real alternate ending, but otherwise never strayed from the source material. The PS2 game instead showed that Hyakkimaru ends up being involved romantically with an adult bodied Dororo, and it's my favorite interpretation of the tale.

I hadn't watched any of this since last season because I haven't been keeping up with this season's anime, but over the last few nights I marathoned the second half. I really enjoyed it, the changes they made in adapting it worked out for the best, I'd say. The pacing felt good as well, and the art was pleasing (though it's clear they saved a decent chunk of the budget for the end of the series). Will definitely recommend.

I feel like it was more pro-survival and respect for nature than anything else. Pro-collectivism when the survival of a collective was involved, pro-individual when it was the survival of the individual (but not particularly supportive when said individual had been a cunt), pro-violence when it was needed to survive, pro-pacifism when violence was not needed, pro-self-sacrifice for the sake of your people, but not for sacrificing others like an asshole, anti-traitor, and so on. I can respect that. The only one related to Hyakkimaru's situation that I don't have any respect for at all is the father for being the one to originally make a deal with demons. It's not something I can sympathize with, and it still didn't seem particularly prosperous with all those demons feasting on people all over the countryside. I also liked the message about making something for yourself instead of leeching off others, and Dororo's deciding to build something with others in the end with the hidden money.
