Because BMI is a shit way of measuring adiposity. It takes in no account of lean body mass and adipose tissue. Bodybuilders have huge BMI's but no one in their right mind would call them obese. As soon as someone starts deviating from the mean body type the less useful it gets. Something like the ratio of waist to height would be more useful, or better yet, just use body fat percentage. If you just use percent bodyfat, there is no real room for error or interpretation. You're fat or you aren't. You're likely to get the beetus or you aren't.
