Asses and Thighs are SSSS.Gridman Director’s Priority for Its Main Heroine’s Character Design
>In a recent interview with SSSS.Gridman’s character designer Masaru Sakamoto on Megami Magazine, he discussed about how the character designs of all the main characters are done, and we found an interesting piece of information in the interview.
>According to Sakamoto, the series director Akira Amemiya personally requested the following for Rikka Takarada’s design: “make her ass big and her thighs thicc.” Amemiya has previously worked as a key animator in shows such as Campione!, Haganai, DARLING in the FRANXX, and Medaka Box, so his love of asses and thighs doesn’t really come off as a surprise.
>By the way, in regards to Akane Shinjou’s design, Sakamoto elaborated how he designed her in a way that would “make anyone who sees her is able to perceive her cuteness.” He also received an input to design her in the image of “what if director Amemiya becomes a high school girl” in mind. Another very important advice, coming from famed mecha designer Shigeto Koyama, is to make Akane’s boobs big in size.
>With these passionate inputs coming from talented creators working with Studio TRIGGER, looks like we can expect SSSS.Gridman to be a strong contender in this season’s anime roster.
>SSSS.Gridman is a Japanese anime television adaptation of the 1993–1994 tokusatsu series Gridman the Hyper Agent. The production is a joint collaboration between Tsuburaya Productions, the production company behind Gridman and Ultraman, and Studio Trigger.
>The series is directed by Akira Amemiya (Ninja Slayer) and written by Keiichi Hasegawa (Zoids, Rage of Bahamut Genesis), with the new Gridman character design provided by Masayuki Gotou from Tsuburaya Productions, known for contributing the designs for a lot of Ultraman series. Shiro Sagisu (Neon Genesis Evangelion) is handling the series’ music with Toshiki Kameyama (Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha) as the sound director and Eiko Morikawa for the SFX director.

I agree, I just get my anime news from browsing this place and occasionally other chan anime boards. There's probably a lot I'm missing out on.
You know what else I'd appreciate? A service which keeps track of the releases of OVAs and other non-TV aired sequels (eg, films) for shows I've watched. Stuff I watched a year or two ago I randomly click on the MAL page of and see that they have had an OVA, but then I go to nyaa and it doesn't have subs yet. When it does come out, I won't remember to check for it. I wonder how many other shows there are I'm missing OVAs for.

>she stops talking to him because she can be part of the cool kids because she's hot and otakus aren't cool
>be in high school
>chick still doesn't talk to MC, except to ask to borrow his games and animu
>gets real mad when he tries to talk about anything else because talking to a loser like him is going to get her kicked out from the popular kids
>MC manages to talk her into doing art for his game
>she gets depressed and holes herself up into a remote cabin and goes out into the snow half-naked
>MC gets worried, goes all the way to that remote as fuck cabin
>finds her passed out in the snow, drags her into the house
>savees her goddamned life
>they manage to ship the game and MC is real excited about the next game they're going to make together
>she demands a really good concept, so he spends a full month on nothing but working on that
>he gives it to her
>chick had been scouted for an industry job from the start, but he didn't, so she felt really bad about abandoning him and never told him, instead letting him work on his own for something that could never be, explicitly telling him it needs to be really good
>comes to MC shortly after starting industry job and, again, having a mental breakdown because she's utterly incompetent
>MC proceeds to actually help her instead of laughing at her between telling her that she should call him before she tries to kill herself again because he wants to watch
And I'm not even going to start with the second heroine that's somehow even more of a cunt, if a less traitorous one.

>convince youthful population they don't need kids and they should enjoy freedom and independence
>a decade passes, low fertility crisis arises as a result of youthful population rejecting old social contract of "get married, have kids" in favor of "get things, have fun"
<not considering the trend that Japanese normalfags do want to have kids and grandchildren, just like any other well-off Asian country (and by that I mean the whole continent, not just East Asia) despite governmental and foreign influence (but then the Japanese government already pushes its people to have more kids…so…)
<not bringing up the trend that the Japanese had been living too lavishly in the 1980s (thanks to the bubble economy), raising living standards for young people and made them less tolerant against the hardship of life without all the fancy modern tools and trinkets
<not bringing up the fact that the lost decades (1990s-2000s) happened, hampering any hope for Japanese youth to have job security and decent lifestyle for the foreseeable future, killing their desire to create a family
<not bringing up the fact that Japanese businessmen inflate their products' prices only in Japan, making living in Japan much harder than other countries (even when compared to some developing countries e.g. the ones in South East Asia and Arabian Peninsula). The fact that the Japanese are reluctant to import stuff to stabilize prices and build more amicable relationship with other countries only makes the problem worse
<not tracing the economy problem back to the bubble economy system lasting for ~40 years since the 1950s, where the Japanese government essentially removed certain critical responsibilities of big corporations toward investors which in turn, made the government and piled up a huge debt without even thinking on how to pay it back
You can blame everyone else including the Kikes for the widespread & uncontrolled extramarital sex in Japan after the loss of the patriarchal, more traditional education system which emphasized sexual purity and fidelity to the youth, created by the old Imperial government in Japan. It happened thanks to (((US))) occupation just after the WWII, which forced the Japanese to adopt a highly (((liberal))) constitution. But believing that the Japanese themselves aren't at fault for their population problem is just being ignorant.
Read "Demons and Dogs" by Alex Kerr for more details, it'll open your eyes to the reality in Japan up to early 2000s, all of which affect the current Japan we're hearing now.
Blaming a certain people for all the problems in the world is just dumb, if not dangerous, because that removes your desire to look deeper into the problem and to solve it.
You can scream millions of epithets to the Kikes and you'll still be unable to see the forest for the trees.

Report: Rumour: Animated Castlevania Producer Adapting The Legend of Zelda
>Despite Nintendo's denial at the time, reports surfaced in the past about Netflix adapting The Legend of Zelda series in some form. Now, according to a report on The Wrap, it sounds like said adaptation could be coming from Castlevania producer Adi Shankar.
>The Wrap's exclusive report doesn't have much in the way of details, but it all started with a post Shankar made on Instagram. The post says, "I can confirm that I'm working with an iconic Japanese gaming company to adapt one of their iconic video game series into a series."
>Shankar went on to say that the success of Castlevania made this possible. Thankfully, we won't have to wait too long to find out whether the Zelda reports pan out or not. Shankar will announce what the series is on November 16.

>Piracy
How CAN artists respond to this, really?
If he says he's fine with piracy, his publisher will most likely get mad at him for endorsing lost profits, and cancel his serialization.
If he says he's not fine with piracy in order to not make his publisher mad, fans will get pissy, demonize him for it, his work will be boycotted, and his serialization gets cancelled due to bad sales.
It's a lose:lose situation. Even asking the author's opinion on piracy is a deathtrap in itself. The only winning move is not to play.

The Specter of Adulthood Looms in Mr. Osomatsu the Movie Trailer
>New key visuals and Japanese release date revealed for anime theatrical film based on Fujio Akatsuka's gag manga
>A new trailer, the Japanese release date, and two new key visuals have been revealed for Mr. Osomatsu the Movie (known in Japan as Eiga no Osomatsu-san), an upcoming anime theatrical film featuring a new story in which the Matsuno siblings come face-to-face with the questionable nature of their adult lives after attending a high school reunion.
>One of the new key visuals (above) features the six Matsuno brothers as teens dressed in their high school uniforms, while the other new key visual (below) depicts them as fully grown but revisiting their high school home room. The trailer sets a somewhat somber tone, with serious narration and swelling music, but if the previous animated iterations of Mr. Osomatsu are anything to go by, it's too soon to say whether the movie will take a more sentimental turn.
>Mr. Osomatsu the Movie is based on the characters created by Fujio Akatsuka for the classic gag manga, Osomatsu-kun. Mr. Osomatsu the Movie is directed by Yoichi Fujita and features animation production by Pierrot. The film hits theaters in Japan on March 15, 2019.

Tatsunoko Productions' Egao no Daika TV Anime Streams Promo Video
>Story of princess, military woman from distant worlds debuts in January
The official website for Egao no Daika (The Cost of Smiles), Tatsunoko Productions' original television anime to mark its 55th anniversary, began streaming the "Another ver." of the first promotional video for the series on Wednesday.
>The anime will premiere on the WOWOW, Tokyo MX, and YTV channels in January 2019. Tatsunoko describes the story:
>On a planet far from Earth, there is a kingdom full of smiling faces. Princess Yūki is 12 years old, and about to enter a sensitive age in a person's life. Everyday, she cries, laughs, and sometimes, her heart throbs with excitement. All the while, she lives merrily in the royal palace.
Filling her days with color are her loyal vassals: her tutor Reira, Izana who assists in political affairs, the leader of the chivalry Harold … and then, there is her childhood friend and aide Joshua.
>"Yūki! If you have spirit and guts, you can do anything!"
>"…No, not this again! Joshua, be nobler!"
>Stella is 17 years old and a capable, reserved soldier. However, she is always smiling … for smiling is essential to living.
>This is a story of two girls born on distant planets.
>The anime stars:
Yumiri Hanamori as Yūki Soleil, a princess of a kingdom which has lasted eons. The girl is innocent, naive, expressive, and often laughing, crying, or getting angry.
Saori Hayami as Stella Shining, a girl who is always smiling when she deals with people. She also has a reserved side, and is an excellent soldier.
>Toshimasa Suzuki (Lagrange - The Flower of Rin-ne, Fafner: Heaven and Earth) is directing at Tatsunoko Productions, and Shinichi Inotsume (Hayate the Combat Butler, PERSONA 5 the Animation) is in charge of the series scripts. NOB-C (Musasino!, Urawa no Usagi-chan) is credited with the original character designs, as well as the original story concept with Hikaru Yuasa. Naoto Nakamura (Miss Monochrome assistant character design, High School Fleet) is designing the characters for animation.
>Kazuya Tanaka is directing the sound, and Tsubasa Itō is composing the music. Chiho feat. majiko are performing the opening theme song "Egao no Kanata" (Beyond the Smiles), and the artist kimi no orphée is performing the ending theme song "Kono Sekai ni Hanataba" (A Bouquet For This World).
>Tatsunoko teased the anime with a visual at AnimeJapan 2018 in March. The text on the teaser visual reads: "A girl who only had her smile to protect her, a girl whose smile will save the world."
>Tatsunoko Productions' Infini-T Force franchise also celebrates the company's 55th anniversary. A manga for the franchise by writer Kodachi (Boruto, Naruto: Gaara Hiden - Sajingensō novel) and artist Ejiri (P2! - Let's Play Pingpong!, World 4u_) launched first in Shogakukan's Monthly Hero's magazine in 2015. Udon is publishing the manga. The television anime series had its world premiere at Anime Expo in July 2017, and began airing in Japan that October. The project also spawned a film that opened on February 24.
>Viz Media licensed the Infini-T Force television anime and film. Viz Media's Infini-T Force license includes digital streaming, electronic sell-through, home video, and merchandise for North America, Latin America and Oceania. The license also includes theatrical distribution for the film.
>Tatsunoko Productions previously produced the Ippatsu Hicchū!! Devander anime to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

Comic Market Considers Entrance Fee Due to Olympic-Related Move
>The organizers of Comic Market (Comiket), Japan's largest event for selling self-published dōjinshi works, reported in their Comic Market Appeal document that they are considering an entrance fee for their summer 2019 (Comiket 96) and winter 2019 (Comiket 97) events, due to the temporary change in venue.
>Comiket ordinarily has no entry fee for general attendees, though attendees can purchase a catalog as a guide to the event. If the new system is implemented, general attendees who do not purchase a catalog will be required to purchase a wristband for entry. The existing pass for exhibitors and dōjinshi circles will also be converted into a wristband to allow for easy access between the two separate venues for the event.
>The document explained that these measures are being considered due to the increase in the cost of running the event for four days across two venues, and also due to the smaller floor space available, which the organizers predict will lead to fewer dōjinshi circles, fewer commercial booths, and less advertising. The document also explained that the charge would be a safety measure to prevent congestion in the smaller area. The document noted that the staff is only considering the measures so far, and that it will officially announce any changes at a later date.
>Due to renovations for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, the event will have less space at its normal venue of Tokyo Big Sight in 2019. Comiket will still place the regular dōjinshi circles in Tokyo Big Sight's existing West Exhibition Hall and two areas in the South Exhibition Hall (now under construction), but the booths for commercial companies will be about 1.5 kilometers (about one mile) away, in the Aomi Exhibition Hall (now under construction) near the Rinkai train line's Tokyo Teleport Station.
>Comiket 95 will run from December 29 to December 31. Comiket 96 will expand to a record four days, from August 9 to August 12, 2019, and Comiket 97 will run from December 28 to December 31, 2019. Comiket 98 will run during the Golden Week holidays in April and May of 2020, instead of during the summer of 2020.
>Comiket 94, held on August 10 to 12, drew about 530,000 attendees across all three days.

>drew about 530,000 attendees across all three days

Holly fuck!
Anyway, I read the title and thought it would be some sort of change due to politics or whatever. Thank god it's just because of space. Still, an entreance fee with little to no improvement in customer service is bound to make people angry. Walking around a sea of weebs risking trampling was acceptable in a free-to-entry environment, but I guess a lot of people will be displeased about paying to have a bad time shopping.

It's a way to do some underhanded gatekeeping to keep away "journalists" and other sorts of SJW prone faggots. The only people who will go there now are genuine Jap otaku, Weeaboos and degenerates who actually care about Comikets.
No.66841

I guess that will stop the average normalfag blogger/youtuber/redditor who happens to go to these things.
I've never been there, but can't say charging fare sounds like a bad idea. Especially considering that these doujins now can be distributed online (both digital and shipped), komiket has become more of an event in itself than a necessary marketplace.
No.67069

Good. It's about time these event limit the amount of participants they accept. With all the hurdles one have to go through for the books this event resembles more of an endurance sport event rather than a simple comic bazaar.
Now keep baka SJW Gaijins and anyone who doesn't speak Japanese fluently out of the event.
Forever.

Wait there's more info on this one and a trailer, from ANN
>The official website describes the anime:
This is a prophecy.
Someday, the five of you will be put into terrible danger.
And when that happens, you're the only one who can protect everyone.
Daisuke Dojima, a 2nd-year student in high school who was kidnapped when he was younger, experiences a strange phenomenon along with his friends Gai, Lu, Marimari, and Keisaku: “Shibuya Adrift”.
The center of the city of Shibuya is transported more than 300 years in the future. The people sent with it find nothing there but vast wastelands and forests, dotted with ruins… and hostile beings called “Revisions” that control massive mechanical monsters.
As the monsters tear through Shibuya, someone appears to save the people: a girl with the same name, “Milo”, as the one who helped Daisuke when he was kidnapped, who looks identical to her as well.
She gives Daisuke and his friends weapons called “String Puppets” that they can pilot, and tells them to protect Shibuya.
Daisuke has spent his whole life believing in the prophecy that Milo gave him when he was kidnapped, and he's overjoyed that the time has come at last and at the power he's gained. But the kidnapping incident tore the 5 childhood friends apart.
An isolated city. An unknown enemy. An uncertain past and a prophecy of the future. The children fight the “future” to bring back the “present”.
No matter what, they're going home…

China Jails Fujoshi For 10 Years Over Gay Sex Novel
https://www.sankakucomplex.com/2018/11/21/china-jails-fujoshi-for-10-years-over-gay-sex-novel/#comment-2122175
>A Chinese writer sentenced to 10 years of jail for writing a pornographic novel filled with gay sex incited fury and debate across all forms of Chinese social media.
>The female writer penned the novel – named “Occupy” – back in 2017, which managed to sell 7,000 copies online; this soon caught up with her however as producing and selling pornographic content is illegal in China.
>Her work followed the forbidden romantic affair between a teacher and student, the novel being labeled as “filled with graphic depictions of male homosexual sex scenes tinged with violence” by a television station.
>As punishment for her indecent sexual fantasies, the writer was handed a jail term of 10 and a half years, sparking anger across Chinese social media as many soon pointed out that cases of manslaughter and rapists (only liable to serve a jail term of between three to 10 years) have received less severe sentences.

Studio Trigger Panel at Anime NYC
>At Studio Trigger's Anime NYC panel, the first question Tatsuru Tatemono (Tattun) asked was “who here has visited from the west coast?” For their first convention in New York, it was in many ways an update to their Anime Expo panel with Hiromi Wakabayashi, Shigeto Koyama, and special guest voice actress Mayumi Shintani showing off production materials and updated information for DARLING in the FRANXX, Kill la Kill the Game -If-, Indivisible, SSSS.Gridman and Promare.
>Starting with DARLING in the FRANXX, Wakabayashi gave a quick postmortem on the project and Trigger's involvement. He continued to emphasize that Trigger was only part of the beginning planning, behind the core designs and the earlier half of the show with A-1 Pictures taking the larger heft of the responsibility. Wakabayashi added they received comments that the story was very “Trigger-like,” but said it was primarily from the director Atsushi Nishigori. “Everyone says it was Trigger's fault that it ended up in space, but that's not true!”
>Wakabayashi showed off Koyama's early concept mech designs, which originally had the pilot's faces, and also explained why the mechs look so feminine. “[Nishigori] was the character designer for Gurren Lagann. After that, he directed THE IDOLM@STER. IDOLM@STER is cute, right? My understanding is that he loves cute stuff. That's why I drew up the cute designs for the robots.”
>Since Arc System Works brought a special demo of Kill la Kill the Game -If- to Anime NYC, Shintani got a big kick out of talking about reprising her role as Nonon Jakuzure in the game. “It has been five years, so I was a little worried if I could get in character,” said Shintani. “So before the recording, I downloaded all the episodes on Amazon Prime and checked out my part in the series. I was like copying myself. Once I started acting, everything came back quickly. The audio director wanted to take baby steps, like one or two recordings per session, but I said 'nah, let's go through it all the way.'”
>Wakabayashi also showed off Koyama's concept art of Satsuki's final form, Junketsu Shinzui, which was teased at Anime Expo. The best way to describe the design is that it looks like an abstracted mix of a Hannya Noh mask and the Predator's open mandible, with Junketsu's shoulder pads sprouting up like long horns and double energy scythes coming out like hooked teeth. It looks rad as hell.
No.70325
>>70324
>After showing the sneak peek for the opening of Lab Zero games' Indivisible, Shintani expressed that she wanted to voice the little green creature that shows up. Wakabayashi asked what kind of voice Shintani would use. She replied with what I can only describe as an annoying gremlin squeal. Tattun chimed in saying, “I'm surprised to find out the creature is sentient.”
>The seventh episode of SSSS.Gridman premiered the same day as the panel and a large part of the audience cheered when asked if they were tuning in. Headed by the younger Trigger staff (nicknamed “Young Justice”) and director Akira Amemiya (described as “perhaps a padawan to Hiroyuki Imaishi”), Wakabayashi pointed out they had not seen the original US release of Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad. Talking about the cast, Wakabayashi commented that Japanese fans have now nicknamed Utsumi as “Turbo-Senpai,” and that he thinks Rikka is more popular in America, where Akane is more popular in Japan. He added that Samurai Calibur also seems to be another popular character in Japan.
>After showing a hybrid Promare trailer with scenes from the teaser shown at AX and the public promo, Wakabayashi showed off exclusive model sheets of the main cast. Wakabayashi returned to his defense that the main character Galo is not Kamina, pointing to the variations in hairstyles.“The difference is as big as the original Saber from Fate/stay night to Saber Alter. Big difference!” Wakabayashi also insisted that the red-haired, side ponytailed Aina (“Not Yoko!”), the blonde-bunned Luchia, and the blue-haired, glasses wearing Remy were original designs. (Though the first two also share a striking resemblance to the studio mascots Trigger-chan and Spring. Does that mean Muzzle will show up too?) Also from Shintani's reaction to Luchia, it sure does sound like she will be voicing the character. The main villain is also named “Mad Burnish” and looks like if Trigger designed a Zone of the Enders mech, with namesake flames coming off the body and all.
>“I'm sure a lot of people would want an entire series, but we would like to try with a theatrical length project,” said Wakabayashi. “If you can expect something along the lines of Kill la Kill, Gurren Lagann or Panty and Stocking concentrated into a two-hour length, I don't think you'll be disappointed.”
>Even though staff told the Trigger to wrap up the panel in haste, there was still an air of excitement coming out of the room. Promare, in particular, seems to be flexing Trigger's most artistic muscles, so it will be exciting to see the final product. In the meantime, there's plenty of Trigger productions to enjoy in anticipation.

Natsu's group finds that they are in Japan after a catastrophe, and must learn how to survive in their new post-apocalyptic reality.
>The series was nominated in the Comic category for the 49th Seiun Awards this past April. Animators, Researchers Develop Automated Technique for Coloring Anime
>Japanese animation production companies Imagica Group and OLM Digital have joined forces with the Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST) to develop a technique for automatic coloring within anime production.
>Imagica Group is a production company that specializes in video production duties, including filming, dubbing, editing, restoration, and streaming. One of their subsidiary groups is Oriental Light and Magic (OLM), the production studio of the Pokémon anime. The OLM group specializes in both 2D and 3D animation, as well as visual effects.
>The coloring technique developed by the researchers is based on recent advances of machine-based deep learning. The researchers developed a color script to correspond with the different segments of an image, which is then applied by an algorithm capable of machine learning. These techniques have been applied widely in various fields, such as coloring black-and-white photos, although the researchers claim to be the first to develop a technique for automatic coloring in Japanese anime production in particular.
>Although this technique is still in the preliminary research stage, the research team has stated their intent to improve the accuracy for commercial use. The team predicts that the results of their research will be ready for commercial use beginning in 2020.
>This technique will be presented at SIGGRAPH Asia 2018, an international conference on computer graphics. Ken Anjyo, the Research and Development supervisor at OLM Digital, will be the chair of SIGGRAPH Asia 2018. The conference will be held in Tokyo from December 4 to 7.
>Publishers have recently used artificial intelligence to color manga pages. Hakusensha began using developer Taizan's PaintsChainer automatic coloring software to create color versions of Akira Hagio's josei romance manga Kekkon x Renai and Asuka Sora's romance manga Watashi-tachi xx Shimashita.
>Keisuke Iwata, president of Japan's anime television network AT-X, spoke last year about how anime production processes could be "completely replaced by AI."
>Advances in the industry have led some anime studios, such as Polygon Pictures, to embrace technological and other forms of progress. However, some members of the anime industry remain skeptical that AI and CGI can save the industry because it can potentially put animators out of work.

If anything, computer graphics and such contribute an awful lot to destroying the industry rather than saving it, although not economically, but rather in terms of aesthetics. For me, the more they remove the human factor from the anime creative process, the less appealing anime becomes.

What's With The Multiple Versions of Kiki's Delivery Service?
Fred asked:
I recently was at a second hand shop, and came across an old VHS tape of Kiki's Delivery Service, I guess from when it was first released by Disney. I already had the movie on Blu-ray but it seemed like a collectable, and it was only 50¢, so I bought it. I finally got around to playing it, and I noticed that, in addition to English credits in a big tacky font, the opening and ending themes were replaced with English songs! What are these songs, and why were they replaced with the original songs on later releases?
When Walt Disney Pictures licensed the Studio Ghibli library back in the late 90s, Kiki's Delivery Service was the first of the films to get a US release, as it was arguably the most plainly family-friendly film in the catalog. (Even Totoro had a bath scene and a parent in the hospital.) Since the direct-to-video business was still pretty healthy in those days, it skipped theaters and got put out on VHS and laserdisc. Despite that, the film got the all-star dub we know today, with Kirsten Dunst as Kiki, Phil Hartman as Jiji, Matthew Lawrence as Tombo and Janeane Garofalo as Ursula. It was released on VHS and Laserdisc in September, 1998. (While the Laserdisc did have Japanese audio, it did not have subtitles.)
The Disney-Ghibli licensing contract had a very firm "no cuts" policy, but it wasn't entirely clear about what other modifications Disney would be allowed to make. As their intent was to make a very mainstream product for American release, Disney made a few fairly minor tweaks. Credits and a handful of signs were Photoshopped into English. They added additional music (mostly new arrangements of classical pieces meant to blend in with the original soundtrack) to scenes that were silent (see the recent answerman about adapted dubs replacing music for more info on how Western film scoring has a different mindset to it than anime typically has). Comedian Phil Hartman was allowed to improvise a few lines, and he also delivered a key line at the end in a way that drastically changed the meaning of the scene. (This could've been an honest mistake, simply a matter of following the script but not consulting the original audio.)
No.72146
>>72145
But the most conspicuous change was in the opening and ending themes. The original songs, "Rouge no Dengon" and "Yasashisa ni Tsutsumaretanara," were existing pop songs by Yumi Matsutoya (then using the name Yumi Arai) from 1975 and 1974, respectively. However, this was still the era where Americans were pretty afraid of foreign languages, so Disney preferred not to have any Japanese singing. Since they were fairly generic songs that weren't composed to match the film, Disney commissioned a pair of new upbeat English pop songs for the US release in a similar style. This was likely cheaper than licensing a famous Western song of any real notoriety.
Los Angeles area indie singer/songwriter Sydney Forest got the job. A composer, vocalist and guitarist hailing from San Diego (her mother had been a child pop star, singing the enduring novelty song, "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas"), Forest had also managed to land the ending theme, "High School Highway," on the WB teen drama series "Popular." She composed two cheery pop songs that had a vague thematic connection with the film: "Soaring" and "I'm Gonna Fly".
Forest (now Sydney Taylor) had just been signed as a songwriter with Disney Music Publishing, and Kiki was her first assignment. "I watched the video without any sound, no dialogue or music, and actually roped in my boyfriend at the time (now husband of 20 years) and he made up the guitar part," recalled Taylor, who was kind enough to answer a few questions for me by email. "It was the first song we wrote together, so it is very special to both of us. We had broken up and went on a church retreat together and he helped me work on [I'm Gonna Fly] and ended up getting back together… and were married within 4 months." She had no idea who Miyazaki was at the time, but has since become a huge fan, and looks back on the assignment with a lot of gratitude. She didn't find out that some fans were upset about the replacement songs until later.
Ghibli was apparently not a fan of the changes Disney had made to the film, and when it was re-released on DVD in 2010, the songs were back to the original Yumi Arai tracks, the additional incidental music and most of Phil Hartman's ad-libbed lines had been removed, and the important line at the end was restored to its original intent. The original Disney version has not been released since.
No.72147
>>72146
Taylor kept at the LA music career for a while, but after a few years she left the music hustle to raise a family. (After the events of 9/11, her priorities changed, she tells me.) However, she still works as a songwriting coach, and she and her husband have composed several religious-themed works over the years, including a musical. It's work that she plans to ramp up, now that her three kids are getting older.
"I was so sad when I went on amazon.com to order the Anniversary edition release of Kiki's and read the comments that my songs had been replaced. But, I have to say, it was a great comfort to read the comments in the review section and see how many people were upset [about that]. I am also touched when I see how many people on YouTube sing their own version of “I'm Gonna Fly” or “Soaring”. It makes me deeply happy, in a way that even commercial success can't touch." Her old catalog of pop songs is still available via her Bandcamp page, including the two songs from Kiki. (Do check out her full album, though – I've been a huge fan of her work for years.)
Interestingly, Kiki isn't the only Miyazaki film to have been slightly tinkered with in its original US release by Disney. Castle in the Sky (Laputa)'s original 80s synth soundtrack was initially deemed too dated sounding, and Disney went to great expense to have it re-recorded by the Seattle Symphony Orchestra. It, too, was reset to its original upon later re-releases.

Steel Flashes and Blood Flows in Dororo TV Anime Trailer
>A new key visual (above), a bloody new trailer (below), new cast members, and the Japanese broadcast schedule have been revealed for Dororo, an upcoming TV anime based on the unfinished supernatural manga by Osamu Tezuka about a young man with a weaponized, prosthetic body who fights to reclaim his flesh and organs from 48 demons during the Warring States period.
>The original Dororo manga was serialized from 1967 - 1968 in Shogakukan's Weekly Shōnen Sunday and Akita Shoten's Bōken'ō manga magazines, and an English language version is also available from Vertical, Inc., who describe the story of Dororo as follows:
>A samurai lord has bartered away his newborn son's organs to forty-eight demons in exchange for dominance on the battlefield. Yet, the abandoned infant survives thanks to a medicine man who equips him with primitive prosthetics - lethal ones with which the wronged son will use to hunt down the multitude of demons to reclaim his body one piece at a time, before confronting his father. On his journeys the young hero encounters an orphan who claims to be the greatest thief in Japan.
>Dororo was previously adapted into a 1969 TV anime with direction by Gisaburō Sugii and animation production by Mushi Productions. The new Dororo TV anime is directed by Kazuhiro Furuhashi and features animation production by MAPPA and Tezuka Productions. Dororo will be digitally distributed in Japan and other world markets by Amazon Prime Video, and it will also broadcast on Japanese TV as follows:
Tokyo MX: every Monday during the 22:00 time slot beginning on January 07, 2019.
BS11: every Monday during the 24:30 time slot beginning on January 07, 2019.

You read that right. The season just ended and the game is alredy being cancelled
Makes me wonder if the anime was part of a publicity campaign that started production way before the game's release and that was expected to bring in players to the game, but in the ended came in too late to save it.

>Sunrise describes the anime's story:

>The release will have a premiere screening in Tokyo on January 13, and various retailers will distribute application tickets. The anime's main voice cast will attend the event.

She even forces her brother to make and bring her meals when she stomps on the floor. Masamune wants his sister to leave her room, because the two of them are each other's only family.
>Masamune's novel illustrator, penname "Eromanga Sensei," draws extremely perverted drawings, and is very reliable. To add to the chaos that erupts between the siblings, a beautiful, female, best-selling shōjo manga creator becomes their rival.

>The existence of the stickers was first reported by several Twitter users on December 31, although no photos were circulated. One user claims that the circle in question was located in the east hall near row l46b.
>Comiket's after report states that they had not been aware of the existence of the stickers while the event itself had been running. The report also said that at first, their initial stance was that because the perpetrators do not violate Japanese law, it was the circle's own responsibility, and not that of Comiket's. However, after deliberation, the committee has come to the conclusion that they will not tolerate any discrimination within the "space" that is Comiket. Should any similar situation arise again, the committee will take prompt action.
>In 2016, Japan's National Diet enacted a Hate Speech Act in order to comply with the United Nation's "International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination." However, the law does not contain penalties for perpetrators of hate speech.
Tell me /animu/; Now with the leftist dialect the nips seem to be using in this instance, is Comiket going full sjw now in CY+4? an elaborate psyop disinfo from (((ann journalists)))? or simply a false alarm worded (((in a weird way)))?

P.A. Works Unveils Fairy gone Original TV Anime for April Premiere
>Kenichi Suzuki (Cells at Work!, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders, Drifters) is directing the anime, with Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash light novel author Ao Jūmonji writing and overseeing the scripts. Haruhisa Nakata drew the original designs for the characters and fairies, while Takako Shimizu (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Sōsei no Aquarion Love) designed the characters for animation. [K]NoW_NAME (Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash, Sakura Quest) is credited for music production, and will perform the anime's opening theme song "KNOCK on the CORE" (previewed in video above). "Five fairy scholars" is credited for the original work.
>The anime's tagline is "Once, the fairies were weapons."
>The anime is set in a world where fairies possess and reside within animals, granting them special powers. By surgically removing and transplanting the organs of a possessed animal into a human, humans can partially summon the fairy and use it as a weapon. Eventually, such individuals were used for war, and were called "Fairy Soldiers." After a long war, these soldiers lost their purpose, and had to reintegrate into society. From the government, to the mafia, and even becoming terrorists, each tread their own path.
>The story begins nine years after the end of the war, and centers on the protagonist Maria. Maria is a fresh recruit of "Dorothea," an organization dedicated to the investigation and suppression of fairy-related crimes and incidents. Even in peacetime, the government is still unstable after the war. Many criminals still have lingering wounds from the previous conflict, and there are terrorist groups bent on revenge. This is the story of Fairy Soldiers seeking their own justice in a chaotic postwar world.

In Startling Post, Yamakan Again Hints He May Retire from Anime
>Just a few days before the updates of his anime film Twilight, Yutaka "Yamakan" Yamamoto wrote on his blog on January 23 that he's considering retirement from the anime industry. The post marks the fifth time the director has made such an announcement and he acknowledges that it was others that stopped him from retiring before.
>The Kannagi director wrote that there are few decent people among staff in the anime industry but that the fan side is terrible and growing worse each year. He added that he doesn't want anyone to try to stop him from quitting this time unless they are prepared to completely change the industry, which he describes as full of "madmen".
>Yamamoto ends his post stating that "there is no reason to live unless I swallow down a bunch of medicine" and that he wants to quit anime before he goes "crazy".
>Yamakan has updated his blog numerous times since his post about retirement, many railing against "hater" otaku and how he perceives they will destroy anime, the corruption of the 2channel forums, Twitter, LINE, and other social media apps. He also updated about his Twilight anime film on Saturday to let readers know it was not a film for otaku and that its slogan is "Otaku Rejection." He added in the post that "vicious critics" are banned from the film and, after listing four critics in particular, said that if they attempt to watch the film he will take "physical measures" to prevent them or legal measures if they do successfully see the movie.

Japanese Animation Profitability Continues to Rise
>The anime market was valued at 19 billion in 2017, which constitutes and increase of 8.1% from the previous year. The overseas market has grown by 29.6% over the last year while the domestic market has seen a 5.5% decrease; which should serve as a sign of worry to the increasing power foreign investments now hold over the Japanese animated market. One should also consider that the home market is still higher than the overseas market and that many productions are financed to help advertise other projects or sell merchandise, which offers a level of protection against foreign influence and may explain why American companies (Netflix) and other figures have been pushing for the end of the production committee system. A system where large corporations single handedly finance projects on their own would significantly advantage multinational American corporations.
>The home video field and movie markets were weak during 2017.
>Streaming grew by 13% while live events grew by 16.3% in 2017. However, the movie market dropped by 38.3%.

That's absolutely true. I still mantain that anime has fans who are fanatic enough to fight back if that happens. It still won't be a painless ride, though. I think there are a lot of parallels o be drawn with gaming. That there are a number of mainstream producers who thrive selling garbage to unsuspecting idiots, wile the mass of original supporters kick and scream in the background (at first). But as time passes and even normalniggers start seeing the scum for what it is, a crash starts to form to take things back to the norm.
Otaku culture, however, has one big advantage in fighting that when comparing to gaming: It's sources are cheap
Yeah, I know animation isn't cheap in general. But take the fact that anime originates mostly from manga and NV and you'll see that otaku-pandering source material won't end anytime soon. And as long as "manga/novel X is popular with the kids" captures the eyes of investors, anime will have a line of defense that gaming sadly never had.

In what universe, fucking retard?
What series are made for adult males this season, especially for otaku, and not casuals?
I'd say WataTen, but that looks ugly, and low profile show like everything that involves lolis these days. Or Endro, which is directed by a woman who made sure it's not enjoyable by men, because it would have been "ew ew ewwww" to sexualize the girls, and also looks cheap as shit.
And that's probably it, there's a military otaku CG series too, everything else and/or high budget show is made for teens, casuals or women.

>especially for otaku, and not casuals?
nice moving goalposts
>WataTen
>for adults
>complains about lack of stuff for adults
>points out WataTen
>also Endro
>for ADULTS
You wot m8? Look I enjoy watching cute series just as much as the next guy, but I would never even attempt trying to point them out as "for adults". If you want to watch them as an adult, welcome to the club, nothing new here, we all do it. But please don't say "here are the series I believe could have adult appeal: fucking Endro and WataTen. And no, giving them fanservice wouldn't make them "for adults" either. You are no better than any other teen watching their ecchi fuel anime who tries to seel it as "adult material".
How about these:
>Hisone to Masotan
>I want to eat your pancreaas
>Bunnygirl Sempai (this one might be the most "teen" of the list, but it has a plot and characters that advance, and doesn't rely on action or fanservice to carry itself)
>Honda-san
>Hanebado
>Lupin
>Golden Kamui
>LoGH
>Megalobox
If you want something aimed specifically at adult men, you'll inevitably end with action/drama/investigation/comedy/fanservice on the list. As you can see it's easy to have overlaping demographics in there as well.
I'm leaving the fanservice-heavy titles out of the list on purpose simply because even if one of those had mature elements, the fanservce enough would attract the teenage audience (which isn't a problem for me, but you seem to be bothered by it). But I'm sure your "logic" goes like this
>Has fanservice of grown women on it
<eeewwww it's aimed at teens
>Doesn't have fanservice
<eeewwww it's made for women
You are either trolling or you are just a sad sad little man.

Wataten could have as many teens watching it as Harukana Receive did.
Again, if you think the sexy appeal (or at least the intent of) is what makes a show seinen, then even Senran Kagura is seinen.
>honda-san has adult characters = base your counter-argument on it
>ignoring the mention to adult themes
Again you don't have any good arguments and has to resort to moving goalposts.
Here are some pretty basic, self evident, points to be made:
>there is seinen not aimed at lolicons, most of it actually isn't
>shounen doesn't mean "anything I don't like"
>seinen can have overlaping audiences, much like lolicon
>CGDCT can throw a bone to seinen, but no one in their right mind would say that's exclusively aimed at adults unless it's some exceptional case

Also, the argument was whether seinen anime exists still. The answer is an obvious yes, regardless if you like them or not. Controversial Mascot Character Chiitan Gets TV Anime
>The mascot character is based on a real-world female pet otter of the same name, who gained a social media following big enough to become the honorary tourism ambassador of the city of Susaki, Kochi. The same designers who created Shinjō-kun, the city's official mascot character, also designed the mascot character Chiitan, who also gained popularity on social media acting unofficially as tourism ambassador. However, Susaki received complaints about the apparently reckless and dangerous nature of some of the stunts in Chiitan's videos, such as those below.
