Same here.I still remember it fondly and, for the tournament island arc at least, there were still good moments. Even if you watch the 4kids dub it's still an ok series, and I definitely remember as a kid being enthralled by the idea that "eternal torture and damnation" was an actual threat to characters in the show. Even in the 4kids version, Kaiba still blackmails Yugi into losing a game by standing at the cliff side. It was all good fun, even if pretty ridiculous at times.

Also,

"Heart of the Cards" made it much more believable that these people would constantly draw the perfect fucking card at the right time.

Yugioh season 0 is really good. There were some really good episodes in that one. Like the one with the terrorist who was going to blow up Anzu.

I'm watching the 4kids dub at the moment as well and it's alright I guess. About what I'd expect, there was a lot of bullshittery and rule breaking but some duels were really tense and exciting and surprisingly the voice actors did a not too bad job. I've never watched it as a kid so I don't have any nostalgia for it but I'm enjoying it. I'll go through and watch the sub afterwards as well to get the whole picture though

I ended up quitting the game due to not wanting to support the physical paywall that is Link Monsters. How has Vrains been? I barely hear anyone talk about it. Did it crash like Arc-V?

It's just really boring. I hate it because of the stupidity in the actual game because until vrains is over firewall dragon is going to be staying and multiple cards were hit on the ban list just to prevent banning firewall dragon. ABC got one of their main pieces banned because firewall. Cannon solider has become a fucking nightmare because firewall gouki were making boards that prevented you summoning extra deck monsters had a negate on board and couldn't be destroyed by card effects or battle. Which is only beatable because winged dragon of race sphere mode is a card. Guess what causes that firewall. Fucking he'll the other boss monsters were trash except for stardust. Firewall is downright broken.

Limit special summons per turn, remove hand traps, get rid of all of those "immune to everything" cards, make non-archetype decks viable again.

Thing is though that ruins some decks. Bad example but zoo would literally be even more useless than it is now. Even though it was considered a tier 0 deck at one point. I mean compared to modern shit all zoo did at the start anyway was summon drident which popped something and daigusto emeral protected by a couple of traps. Of course not a lot of deck where able to do this same exact board every turn but I would rather play against a format with zoo than the current shit. I would limit the special summoning of the extra deck per turn obviously this would still kill zoo but it's better than nothing. Take links out the game. Keep pendulum as it is as in don't give pendulum decks 5 back row to work with.

Zoo came out after the game went to shit and I remember the bullshit with the fucking rat, I think everything broken from Cyber Dragon onward needs a good look at and should be rebuilt. Zoos were released on a rotten foundation. I agree about Links, but they're still a symptom of the overall issue with the current state of the game rather than what's wrong with it alone.

Season 0 to get a good idea of how all of this bullshit started, manga and animu. The original series is also okay, and 5Ds since it was sorta getting back to roots only there's motorcycles this time. Should go without saying that you shouldn't watch the dub, stick with the original Japanese for everything and only check the dub to see what they changed. For VRAINS, see >>69691 but the theme is okay. Zexal is pure pain; I hear it got better near the end but no one's offered me enough money to sit through all that yet.

GX… tried? It was a mess and the things I remember most from the GX era is there being a duel school for some reason, and nearly every "structure deck" that came out was badly-made, had a shitty boss monster effect, and everything needed a dragon of some kind. Everything. Even Ancient Gears. Curse of Darkness is out. Want a cool Fiend? Well guess what? You get a dragon. Zombie party! Excited to get some cool zombie? Hahahaha, that's cute, here's a Red-Eyes Zombie Dragon.

Zexal would have been much better if yuma wasn't the main character. I would have preferred to watch kanto or shark rather than that annoying retard who basically cheats throughout the latter half of the show. I think astral could even fill the role and we could watch him go to different hosts collect number monsters and introduce the barians earlier so it doesn't get too stale. Obviously the show would need a lot of rewrites but in the end is would be more servicable than what we got. Tbf the latter part was alright in my opinion.
