Is it really any surprise that an artist makes things look better than it actually does?
>random girl uses camera angles to make herself look better
>make-up artists can make faces look entirely different
>theater makes actors look better with make-up and stage lighting
>photographers do above and adjust color balance, etc
>illustrator has control of all of the above plus bone structure and can exaggerate things without constraints of reality
