Mori is excellent, but they don't do much outside of specials

Commie is good because they put chapters in everything they sub so you can skip the op/ed; as long as its a good show they won't put memesubs

FFF, BluRayDesuyo, SallySubs, Coalgirls are all great. Not many groups still bother doing airing shows since just about everyone downloads the horriblesubs releases anyways.

the problem has always been balancing speed and quality. I'm glad that now you can pretty much guarantee that a show that's been started will also be finished; before sometimes you'd have to wait 2-3 weeks per episode and basically just hope the group subbing it doesn't drop it. Now you just have to hope they don't put memes in subtitles or don't use your preferred translation for a certain phrase.

Now we just have corpses that are occasionally reanimated to do 1 or 2 shows a season.

But if you're looking for good groups Doki, Asenshi, GJM and Tsundere are probably the last bastions of good sub groups. Mori is also good but they do short shows, the last time they did something big was S1 of Dagashi.

I sometimes use DDY but they are meme subs nowadays and really inconsistent.

FFF just rose from almost a year of inactivity, super inconsistent.

Chihiro takes a year to complete 1 show (they still haven't finished SukaSuka).

Kaitou died (even their website) but I heard their back for Tama-san this season.

UTW came back from the dead to do that shitty Fate Apocrapha then went back into the grave

Nii-sama is a new group, they popped up a few seasons ago.

And Erai is a decent alternative to Horrible but i'm a bit skeptical of them, at least they're the only group I know of doing Cardcaptor Sakura.

Other than these there's other groups that are on and off active, and there are also probably good groups on AB I just don't have AB

that's why I said "might fit" not "they only use it when it fits". yes every now and then any sub group can botch a translation; you don't have to look very hard to find mistakes.

also consider that horriblesubs (CR / other streaming sites) are doing 15+ shows per season; that's about 300 lines of dialogue on average per show * 12 episodes * 15 shows = 54,000 lines translated. honestly you should be surprised there aren't more errors.

Asenshi, Doki, Mezashite, Coalgirls and OnDeed are the few good ones, but the latter doesn't do seasonal stuff. Avoid Commie and FFF, they put their own made-up jokes into the subtitles which have nothing to do with the original dialogue, they often try hard to come off as "le channers xdd" by making the subs edgier than needed as well or by inserting outdated memes. Horriblesubs is fine but if you can find anything better then go with that instead.

Fuck you, I archive those kinds of subs, and I miss them dearly. TL notes, no memes, karaoke, honorifics, nip name order, good typesetting with signs. There were shitsubs, sure: bad or ironic TL notes, memes, bad translations, overly literal subs, overly liberal subs, hard subbed karaoke, eyesore styling. But in general more than one group did a show, so you could pick the best group. Speedsubs and simulcasting killed it.

FFF sometimes have intentional mistrantalations/memes in their subs as well. Maybe that just means they steal their shit directly from Commie but I wouldn't call them "great".

at the risk of getting told to kill myself, does anyone know if any of the groups discussed have 480p releases? i know horriblesubs does, and that's what i've been using for the most part, but i'd prefer to use something that isn't ripped from a shitty company like CR.
