Will anime ever look as good as it did in the 90s? Wasn't Japan supposed to be in a financial crisis during that era, why was the medium visually so much better than anything coming out now?

Just look at some of the bigger titles like End of Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell and then compare them to their modern-day counterparts (Darling in the Franxx or whatever's considered big now).

This really screams of "Toonami kid" who doesn't watch anything modern. Especially when you cherry pick well known old shows that are popular with Adult Swim/Toonami audience and think Darling in the Franxx would be a good, modern comparison. You could have even went with Your Name but didn't for some reason.

To be honest even "moeshit" looked nicer to me on older anime. Maybe I liked the sketcher look and deeper colors.

Is that video supposed to look good? Because it looks like shit to me.

>This really screams of "Toonami kid" who doesn't watch anything modern

I used to mainly watch modern shows when I first started watching anime, I only got into the older stuff last year and it looks much better than the series I had seen prior to it. I can no longer enjoy digital anime, that's how pale they are in comparison.

>You could have even went with Your Name but didn't for some reason

Oh yeah, I guess that's one film from this decade that actually looks good. It's just hard to come up with examples when most of modern anime is outsourced CG garbage.

>>107340

Yeah, I like that "rough" pencil-drawn look and the darker colours.

Communist Chinese here. I agree with >>107340. In my opinion moe anime, harem anime and the modern style are the best thing to happen in anime industry this decade. The market proves they are successful so its obvious they are dominating.

BTW, I love Kirino from Oreimo

These faux-oldfags like OP are a cancer. They dilute discussion of older anime by blindly accepting every piece of trash that came out before they were born and thinking they're geniuses at discovering some longtime classic that many others have seen and discussed before. If they think digital animation is shit, they would've stopped watching shit after 1998 when digital ink and paint and CG effects started coming into TV anime.

Come back you've melted your brain on every super robot show from the 70s and keep gloating about "pre-digital" shit then.

There are certain aesthetics digital is suited to, and certain that it isn't. Generally, anything where a clean, sterile look is a part of the art style looks really good in digital. Monogatari and Land of the Lustrous are good examples. I also think Ghost in the Shell: Innocence is a very beautiful movie that sells the uncanny inhuman quality of the cyberpunk genre well, but I know a lot of people hate the CGI in that film.
