A hard genre to get right. Most play it too safe or just don't try at all.
Recently enjoyed the anime adaptations of Hyakko and AIURA and the manga of that silent anime.
Honestly though a lot of them are trash and I regret not dropping shit earlier like GochiUsa or Tamayura.
I ultimately prefer the genre if it has about 40-60% guys in it. Something like Kannagi is in my eyes how you should approach the elusive CGDCT market and ultimately the genre would improve if it had on-point comedy. Something like Asobi Asobase and Chio's School Road are what the genre long ago should've evolved into.
I don't like the typical girls-having-an-otaku-related-hobby-and-here's-12-episodes-of-low-budget-and-no-guys versions they usually seem to go for. They just seem lazy and an obvious cashgrab when the hobby it centers around is just a pretense and vehicle for an empty and insincere commodity plot.
Though people are apparently satisfied by these inherently mediocre works as they continue getting made when not even isekai do this anymore.
