Why the fuck does this turd have a good reputation? Spoilers ahead.

I just watched this clusterfuck last night. It's terrible. Everyone except Amuro and Chan (and maybe Nanai) act like retards the whole time. Char is off his fucking rocker, wanting to fucking destroy the Earth (are we supposed to believe that the Sides are completely self sufficient? How would that even work?), and giving an advanced mobile armour to a literal schizophrenic that he's known for a couple days. Other issues:

>Bright's son straight up fucking murders Amuro's girlfriend and faces no consequences

>the Federation military doesn't seem to take the threat of planetary genocide seriously enough to use all of their forces

>Zeon forces switch sides at the 11th hour for some reason, and try to stop the impact, despite the fact that this is what they were fighting for the whole time

>half-baked stoner "philosophy" and eco-fascist cringe throughout I have no problem with fascism per se, but eco-fascists are something else

>The idea that anyone went along with Char's plans at all is not believable, nevermind that the plan to destroy earth was presented as being supported by almost the entire population of the Sides

>the Psycho Frame

>no really, every thing about the fucking Psycho Frame is bullshit

The entire time I watching this shit my feeling throughout was "what the fuck were they thinking?". I've never felt like that about any other Gundam film or series. I don't get it, am I missing something? Can someone explain the fucking Psycho Frame to me? I've never had a problem with Newtypes having literal ESP or the mysticism in the series, but stopping fucking asteroid from hitting Earth with telekinesis is a bit much.

It's been a long while since I saw it, but my thinking is that the reason CCA feels like a total mess is because it acts like nothing in Z or ZZ ever even happened. It's pure wankery for people who loved the Amuro and Char rivalry in 79 and nothing else of value besides having really great visuals even by Gundam standards. I'm also mystified as to why the ending is one of the most beloved scenes in the entire franchise though, to me it exemplifies everything that went wrong with Tomino thinking he could make the idea of moralfag space jedi work well in a mecha war drama.

Right, I watched Z (haven't got around to ZZ yet) a few years ago, and while it's a little fuzzy, that Char is basically a whole other character.

I actually really liked the concept of Newtypes, and the way they were presented in the original series, but that fucking ending (in Counterattack) was a disaster as far as I'm concerned.

I did really like Nanai though.

welcome to char's counterturd

>I actually really liked the concept of Newtypes, and the way they were presented in the original series

That's the thing, though. In the original series it worked well because Newtypes were presented as an unknown, and ultimately they were just unnaturally empathetic and talented people born from the unique conditions of space. It had mystique and appeal as a sci-fi concept, especially at the time, and it never was taken way out of scope. Then Gundam is a smash hit and they have to make a bunch of sequels, and the whole thing gets blown way out of proportion. Newtypes everywhere, artificial Newtypes, space magic becomes the #1 motivator and problem solver of practically everybody, when originally it was just Tomino's solution to blending the idea of a metaphor for cross-generational dissonance and piloting robots.

>muh spoilers

Fuck off. Assmad vol who actually likes this hot garbage confirmed? I posted this here instead of /a/ because you faggots were supposed to be less uptight about shit.

Spoilers are always good.

As for CCA, remember char was meant to get MORE characterization in ZZ like it or not, it's why he even shows up in the first OP. Then Tomino got the go ahead to make CCA and he did. fan rumors are glemmy was made to be the char insert

Seriously, this pisses me off, at least /a/ is transparent about their rulescuckery, and have a sticky on it.

Also, are any of the following statements actually spoillers?

>I just watched this clusterfuck last night. It's terrible

>The entire time I watching this shit my feeling throughout was "what the fuck were they thinking?". I've never felt like that about any other Gundam film or series. I don't get it, am I missing something?

>half-baked stoner "philosophy" and eco-fascist cringe throughout

>the Psycho Frame

No, didn't think so.

As I mentioned above, I haven't watched ZZ yet, but I'm not sure how Char getting "more characterization" would have changed or helped anything in Counterattack, unless Char was supposed to have psychotic break in that series, and even then that wouldn't explain why anyone would go along with his insane bullshit in Counterattack.

>spoilers are always good

Or maybe buttmad vols should just mind their own business and not edit posts because I don't like their favourite turd. I intentionally formatted the post so that spoilers wouldn't be visible from the catalog.

It would have explained his actions a bit more. How so we'll never know, it probably would explain it a bit more of WHY people sided with him.

Go read MSV-R the return of Johhny Ridden, don't think it'll ever finish, Nozaku seems to be MIA. Which sucks because you seem some CCA development.

As for why people followed him, you have to remember, he's the son of Zeon Zum Deikun. Not only that but those that survived the OYW know him as the red comet, Char aznable and he had probably some sympathizers within the AEUG after the first Neo-Zeon war.

CCA goes into Zeonwank a bit by making the feds as shitty asyou said, yes the backroom dealings are understandable, but how the fuck did they let him get away with dropping 5th luna on earth at the start?

 No.101438

I'm in two minds about CCA. It's beautifully animated, but the movie length really feels like it limits the story. Char's rise to power, and downfall into tyranny, and Amuro's return to the fight would have been so much better as a story that played out over 20-50 episodes.

 No.101444

I have no idea, but I felt the exact same way as OP the first time I watched it. After sitting through three different Gundam series of Tomino's retarded fucking writing, I was expecting that maybe, just maybe a feature-length film would have reigned that shit in. But it literally repeats almost all of his moronic tropes in the span of an hour.

 No.101816

>good reputation

It doesn't, its as divisive as any other installment of the franchise because tards like you refuse to understand Tomino and then wonder why Seed exists

>Nu Gundam alone has enough thrust power to push back a giant asteroid base that's already entering the atmosphere thanks to a magical flying "T".

I will never think this isn't retarded. It's just as bullshit as everything centered around Gundam Unicorn.

What's there to understand? He's a fucking hack who has no idea how to write real character development.
