It was friggin awesome! I spent most of the time coloring that mlp coloring book, we played cards against humanity, tied the furry up in a segufix and watched Lilo&Stitch.
The people were extremely nice, the atmosphere was very positive, everyone was wearing cute onesies and thick diapers, I had a marvellous time.

I've never been a fan of furry stuff, I'm almost the exact opposite of that, but I think wearing a fursuit in an enviroment like this is acceptable, it's like having a mascot fooling around on a kid's birthday party.

Well, I can share my own experiences of my first few times meeting someone else that was into this. Though, in my case we were both ABs and were primarily looking for something non-sexual.
First time we met at a restaurant close to both of us. We basically treated it like any other time we'd meet someone new. Talked about normalfag stuff like our jobs, our hobbies, what kinds of stuff we like to do, etc. No diaper talk at all. He invited me to come over to his apartment and we played Mario Kart for a few hours. There was a little bit of talk about ABDL stuff, but we didn't actually do anything related to it that night. After a while it got late and I went home.
We talked online later. He was fine with me taking it slow, and seemed to like that I didn't want to just get into his pants. We made plans to meet up again, this time at my place, and also planned to do some actual diaper playing this time.
So about a week later he comes over. We have some idle conversation and watch TV while we're both still dressed in our adult clothes. I was pretty nervous about finally doing this, and wasn't sure how to transition us to actually getting down to business. Finally he decided to break the ice by asking if it's okay for him to get comfortable. I say sure, so he takes off his jeans and reveals that he's already got a diaper on. I had a hard time containing my excitement, and tell him I'm gonna go get changed too. I come back a minute later with my diaper on, still feeling pretty excited and nervous since this is the first time anyone has seen me wearing one. We talk a little more while I try to calm down, simply enjoying the fact that we're in our diapers in front of each other.
After that, we started playing. I had a huge collection of Legos, so I brought them out of my room and dumped them in the floor. We laid in the floor and built stuff for a little while, just like I did with my cousin when we were kids. I also broke out the crayons and some paper and we drew stuff. Also played more video games. At some point he asked if it was okay for him to use his diaper. I told him it's fine as long as there's no poop. I took this to mean that it was fine for me to use mine too. Finally we laid in bed and cuddled together. At this point we were both somewhat wet. I found the courage to ask him if he needed me to change him. He pointed me to his backpack so I could get a clean diaper and some wipes for him. I undid his tapes, wiped all around his nether regions, dusted him with powder and got him all taped back up. He had to help me a little bit since I had never changed anyone else before. After he was all clean, he poked my diaper and insinuated I needed a change too. So I pointed him to my night stand and let him do his thing. I swear, letting someone else change your diaper is such an amazing feeling. I wound up getting a boner while he was wiping me, and he teased me about it a little. After I was done getting changed we threw our wet diapers in the trash and laid back down together. Eventually he had to leave, but we both had a lot of fun and agreed to do this again.
Anyways, I hope that gives you some idea of what to expect.

I've had many first encounters with ab/dl folks… most of which involved smoking dope or drinking copious amounts. Typically would only do diaper stuff somewhere down the line, after at least a meal or a conversation or some gaming; and there are some folks which I simply didn't feel comfortable doing diaper stuff with, while there are others that were pretty ready to jump right into it, and some were obliged, while others were just too pushy…. City life is weird.
In fact, the only common point between every single one of my encounters is that everybody broke as fuck, and has some sort of dysfunction diagnostic.
All in all fun times, but still haven't found someone who I can see as an equal. I'm down for the good times, but holy shit is hardly anyone date-able in the community, besides the few that are already in long term committed relations.
Is it too much to ask for someone who can take care of themselves, and not be batshit insane or aspie af. <(bonus points if they queer, poly, or switch)

Yeah, that's been my experience a lot of times too, especially the people who seem incapable of taking care of themselves. Like, I get that this fetish is all about acting like a kid and having someone take care of you, but you still need to be able to act like an adult when we're not playing. I've been in groups that had big meet-ups like the one OP went to, and had a few people whining because nobody would drive out of their way to come pick them up and bring them to the party. People who are in their 30s and still live at home with no car or license. And then when someone actually did bother to drive them to the party, they'd always be really bratty and want everything to be done their way. It's like they never really grew up in the first place.
The whole "broke as fuck" thing I've seen a lot too, though a few guys are actually doing alright for themselves. I always feel weird about the money situation since I work in software development and have pretty cheap tastes. I see a bunch of other people complaining about their retail jobs and barely making ends meet while I'm living comfortably with a large savings account to fall back on. Feels weird man.
