bonus points if they're visibly wet/messy, or in public. all the points if they're both.

I posted the pic because I really, really hoped that my post would trigger some idiot and I'm not dissapointed. Do you realize that your average, narcissistic, normie parent that you think is good is actually much more dangerous for child's development than let's say.. parent-fetishist? Because there is a slight chance that parent who has , let's say this diaper fetish, will at least be slightly more open-minded and free thinking in some ways than average parent. In other words, there is a chance that such a parent would reject at least some of the stupid social norms set by this society, which is, at least for me, a good thing. Existence of people like you is the main reason why wearing diapers is not accepted and people have to hide this fetish from others. And yea, the kid will probably develop a diaper fetish like his parents. So what? You also wear diapers, idiot. (If not why you are even here in the first place)

No, he's right. There's a significant negative correlation between IQ and reproduction rate.
I think it might be caused by something similar to the Dunning-Kruger effect. Idiots overestimate their own ability as parents and underestimate the challenges involved in raising a happy child. Intelligent people are more aware of all the complexities and potential problems, so they tend to have less confidence in their own abilities as parents.
Also, educated people tend to be more aware of (and care about) the resource constraints our species is facing, while less educated people tend to be more swayed by religious or short-term economic arguments.
Personally I think adoption is a good middle ground. You aren't bringing new life into the world, but you still get to do your part to improve the life of a child.

>There's a significant negative correlation between IQ and reproduction rate.
Only because there's also a significant negative correlation between birth control and the reproduction rate -AND- birthda contronl availability and IQ of the average populace.
Earlier studies, before birth control, found a slight positive correlation between fertility and intelligence. See Osborn, F; Bajema, CJ (1972). "The eugenic hypothesis". Social Biology. 19 (4): 337--45.
>I think it might be caused by something similar to the Dunning-Kruger effect.
I think you've demonstrated it well in your post.
>Also, educated people tend to be more aware of (and care about) the resource constraints our species is facing, while less educated people tend to be more swayed by religious or short-term economic arguments.
If by educated, you mean indoctrinated, yes. There are no real constraints on human's reproduction but our own erroneous fear-filled projections of the future. Julian Simons explained the faults of Malthusian economics in his book "The Ultimate Resource"
Notice how food / housing / everything is available for less hours of work than anytime before in history - that's the result of the human population increasing. Whenever times gets worse, it's the result of a human population drop. As long as the population goes up, we invent faster, make way more food than we need, etc.
Depopulation is a much scarier problem. Look at Japan. The world population is expected to cap in 2060-2080. This will usher in a world-wide never-ending recession (at least until the population bottoms out, if ever) and it will have been caused by birth control because, it turns out, humans are generally selfish and only had kids because they couldn't handle abstinence.
Hence my point that "selfish" fits better there than "intelligence."

>There are no real constraints on human's reproduction but our own erroneous fear-filled projections of the future.
There very obviously are. In fact, the further out you look the more fundamental the limitations become. There are already widespread shortages of essential resources such as food, clean water, and energy. We are failing to adequately provide for the current human population, and while we are capable of solving that problem using existing technology, there's no political will to do so.
Honestly, I've been studying the subject for a while and I've come to realize that the strongest arguments against unbounded population growth are economic rather than physical. There are physical limits (the most fundamental is a t^3 upper bound on population) but those are large compared to the economic limits. If our technology keeps improving exponentially (and if it doesn't we're really fucked) then very soon we're going to be faced with almost complete unemployment due to automation. At that point there will be no economic incentive to build the infrastructure required to support an ever-growing population. The people with the ability to solve the problem will almost certainly favor preserving natural ecosystems over supporting billions of obsolete peasants.
>Depopulation is a much scarier problem. Look at Japan. The world population is expected to cap in 2060-2080. This will usher in a world-wide never-ending recession
That's because the entire neo-liberal economic system is basically a ponzi scheme. ("Planet Ponzi" is a good book on the subject) You get recessions because debt is growing faster than assets, and no amount of baby-making will solve that. If you push your children deeper into debt to pay off your own debts, then your grandchildren will have to be even more indebted to pay off your childrens' debts and so on. The only people who profit from such a system are the bankers.
>Please recognize that you've spouted "common knowledge" (i.e. what the media told you) and I've referenced scholarly sources to support my opinion. Please prepare citations if you want to go further.
Look, if you want to make an appeal to experts, then there are literally thousands of peer-reviewed articles explaining precisely how fucked we are if we don't drastically change our course.

>Honestly, I've been studying the subject for a while and I've come to realize that the strongest arguments against unbounded population growth are economic rather than physical. Technological innovation comes from unexpected sources. Sure, lots of unnecessary peasants - but some will turn out to be the next Einstein. Lower the pool, and you also reduce the outliers. Innovation will suffer and feeding the peasants isn't a problem anymore with our current tech level.
>That's because the entire neo-liberal economic system is basically a ponzi scheme. Obviously this is false. Look at the price of goods compared to labor required now, and at each prior point in history. This system is clearly benefiting everyone - though I admit is disproportionately benefits the 1%, that's a very different thing than saying the systems -only- benefits the 1%. Also, the source I cited: "The Ultimate Resource" by Julian Simmons explains why you're wrong but I know you didn't read it.
>Look, if you want to make an appeal to experts, then there are literally thousands of peer-reviewed articles explaining precisely how fucked we are if we don't drastically change our course.
If you'd actually read the things I cited and apply rationality, you'd realize I'm correct. I only post citations because everything you posted so far is generally based on you "gut" and that means nothing. I agree there's peer-reviewed doom-and-gloom economic articles. The Ultimate Resource succinctly counters them, and explains the false premises upon which all such articles are built.
To believe things are going to get worse as population increases is to ignore all evidence over the entire course of history showing that things -always- get better in the long term (50-100 years) with population increases. Higher population equals greater availability of goods and services. Look around - how do you think people lived in 1800? in 1600? in 400?
The collapse of the Bronze Age was accompanied by a sharp decline in worldwide population. The Iron Age didn't start until world population came back up.
But, whatever, ignore all experience we've ever had with population being correlated to success and just assume that, somehow, all the evidence is wrong and some "experts" projection is right - though they've never been right before, even when they were predicting horse manure would be the end of the world in the 1800s (then, of course, the car was invented).

You really don't understand how this works. There will come a point in the not too distant future when the best machine minds are superior to even the Einstein-level human geniuses. In the long run it will always end up being more efficient to build and operate AIs than to play the genetic lottery with a population of resource-hungry humans.
As for the rest of your post, the peer reviewed scientific articles are all available via sci-hub. Citing books written by economists is all well and good, but personally I'd trust the physicists to have more accurate forecasting models - especially when the economic arguments seem to just be crude extrapolation from historical trends. You can fit an exponential curve to a lot of things, but at some point the laws of thermodynamics get in the way. You can argue about the precise point at which the exponential growth will flatten out, but it undoubtedly will. As I said, even the most optimistic model for the spread of perfectly efficient von-Neumann machines in an infinite universe gives a polynomial upper bound (t^3 for the number of machines, t^2 for their computation rate).

Lol that was the least meaningful techno-babble rebuttals Ive ever read. I think you mean well, but here's the thing:
I understand graduate level economics, and have taken graduate level courses (though my graduate degree is in something else)
My understanding of physics is college level but i admit its not my balliwick.
Economics is the study of the creation and exchange of value
Physics is the study of matter and energy.
Clearly the former is the branch of science directed at answering the questions we are arguing about. Im not sure you really know what those terms you are throwing around mean - but i am sure they are inapplicable to our discussion.

You cited one source on the correlation between intelligence and fertility. From 1972.
The rest was full of assumptions and conjecture with no supporting evidence.

>Clearly the former is the branch of science
Economics is not a science. In science disagreements are settled via experiments. In economics, disagreements are perpetuated by endless debates and essays with little relation to reality. Pick any hypothesis or economic policy, no matter how blatantly flawed, and you'll be able to find a prominent economist who has written a book advocating for it.
Seriously, the foundational assumption of most economic models is that humans are both rational and well-informed. It's a complete joke.
Anyway, even if economics followed the scientific method, it would still be the wrong field to answer questions regarding energy availability (physics), mineral resources (geology) and ecosystem stability (biology).
We already know the answer to the economic question, "are governments and corporations willing to provide for over 7 billion humans?" The answer is a resounding no. Even in 1st world countries with ample spare resources people are still dying from exposure and malnutrition. The economy has already assigned a value to human life, and it's very, very low.
