That might be true in your part of the world, but in Europe it's definitely associated with fascism and neo-nazis.

Skinheads are, at least within the confides of North America, considered symbollically nazi. I do remember watching a brit doc from the late 90s and being very confused by a casual interview with a "skinhead". Then it turned out her was like an eco liberal, and the interviewers nonchalantness made sense.
