I've been caught a few times.
1st time, 18 years old: Parents found used diapers I stupidly forgot to dump before going to a sleepover for the weekend. I was stressed and ordered my first case of diapers not realizing how large it was (I was a fucking stupid young adult, what can I say?). Needless to say, I had nowhere to put it, tried to play it off as tech stuff, but they knew. I heard comments in passing, but it was never once brought up. I still think about this and cringe. God damn.
3rd time, 30 years old, only a couple of years ago: Living with same friend from the previous story as a roommate in a 2 bedroom apartment. I can't remember exactly what I said, but it was something along the lines of "I'm an ABDL because I had an awful childhood and diapers are a reminder of a simpler time" My mother took that as me blaming her (not exactly wrong). It was an awful way of explaining it and only escalated the situation e.g. "You're a pedophile!".
Were I to re-do that conversation I'd say something like:
"Well, over the years I've researched about this fetish and have discovered some things about it. I've ALWAYS had an attraction to diapers, even when I was really young, it was a hard time in my life as you know (she was dating an abusive asshole when I was 5-7ish) and clearly I connected diapers with security and safety, I don't know why, but it happened. Just tonight, I made a fool of myself.
I like to let diapers poke out of my bag. If anyone wants to talk shit, it's on them for recognizing it, right? It's friday and I planned on drinking a lot, which means peeing a lot, too; I was wearing a PeekABU (which is still not entirely wet) and packed an extra in case I had to change during the night drinking.

Eventually I just took the diaper out of my bag, and started asking more aggressively, like "you know what this is?" "What do you think I have on?" etc. She took the diaper --one with the loud giraffe print– and waved it around, talking about carrying "pampers"; I was embarrassed and tried to take it back to disengage. It took a little bit to do. We've all been drinking so I don't remember the exact words, but she definitely had my ABU in her hands above the bar.
I don't think the whole bar knows now or anything, and probably doesn't care even if they do, and she herself seemed pretty noided and likely wont remember, but it's definitely a case of mistaken fetishism; the conversation (at least from my end) was very much more "please change me" and not "hold on; I need to be changed"

Something similar happened to me. I only wear in the bathroom, and one day my dad came home early and I didn´t hear anything and only realized he was home when he stood in the door, while I was wearing a Tena Flex and nothing else.
