I think it's just a different standardized design. They are a long way from the west so even in the modern world there isn't a lot of cultural transfer. Neither design is really better than the other.

well, admittedly, i've got a very bad case of potty training fetish. i hope this doesn't offend anyone here, but while diapers are quaint, it's stories about little kids who just want to use them forever but mean adults force them into harsh and humiliating potty/toilet training is what really gets me going. i also love to fantasize about being a young diapered boy and being tricked or bullied into using a toilet or a potty by older kids, especially by mean girls who want to show me the "right" way and make a "big boy" out of me against my will.

I was thinking it wouldn't be too hard to make an adult-sized plastic potty if you have access to a few tools and a small amount of money.

I'd use polystyrene foam for the initial forming shape, build the shell of the potty out of resin and fiberglass, and possibly add a wooden support frame underneath for strength at the end.

There are lots of tutorials out there for this kind of stuff. Look into how people build things for stage/movie sets.
