I keep hearing talk about mangadex drama involving some translators pulling their translations from the site and other stuff. However, I still don't know what caused the drama. So, what is the cause?

 No.933828

The most recent one was a Mangadex admin got caught talking about how nice it would be if they could go legit on discord, but another admin clarified it was just wishful thinking and nothing like that is in the works. It did cause a few scan groups to leave the site, I think the biggest one was Jamini's Box, the guys who regularly do Kaguya.

Sage because this really belongs in the Manga Thread.

There's also something worth mentioning that all the groups pulling out are well known e-begging groups with patreons reaching around $3k per month and had a long running beef with mangadex because they weren't getting views on their own sites. It was manufactured drama for the sake of pulling out.

Scan groups that left.

I hope they would be jailed sooner or later.

Do you have brain damage? They've openly stated that "going legit" is a pipe dream that will never happen.

 No.933875

Gay fags greedy for money, just the usual shit.

 No.933902

I actually checked out the particular groups that left and oddly enough every single one of them is involved in fujoshit and other awful manga such as shingeki no kyojin. Not exactly a good vouch of character for the kind of people standing against mangadex. Though not really a meaningful analysis of the actual situation is does at least suggest that this is more along the lines of perceived persectution or self-righteous virture signalling than anything meaningful about the condition of Mangadex management. Whatever the case Mangadex is still the only half-decent place to host and view fan translations for the time being, I hardly expect them to be angels or anything and theyre doing a good enough job despite being kind of fags so it's fine really.

 No.933906

>>933861

Faggots who take money for illegal translations. They are cancer of animefags and should just kill themselves with tofu.

 No.933910

What's stopping Mangadex from uploading their scans, anyway?

I'd continue hosting their scans just to drive them mad.

 No.933914

>>933910

Mangadex doesn't have an actual uploader per se, just groups or individuals who contribute. I don't think they even know or care if someone goes ahead and deletes all their stuff. They're very hands off and it shows, but I've noticed that whenever a chapter is deleted, you can just ask for someone else to upload it again and they're pretty fast at it.

 No.933916

Just like any and all manga pirating sites they want to make money from it and butthurt flows from that desire. Just like when scanlators get super butthurt about anything and starts watermarking every page.

 No.933928

>>933910

They have a policy of not uploading chapters scanlation groups remove themselves. They don't really care about muh snipping so other groups and anons are already filling the void left by meraki and the sorts with their own versions. Just look at kaguya and solo leveling for some examples.

 No.933936

Why is every newfag praising this piece of shit like it's different from batoto trying to prevent downloads in every possible way?

 No.933937

>>933936

>trying to prevent downloads in every possible way

Are they? It's been a while since I tried but last I checked they had nothing stopping you from writing a simple script to rip the pages. Maybe the DDOS protection has put a stop to that. But if they were really trying to prevent downloads they wouldn't leave it as simple as right click -> Save As to save individual pages (cf. Dynasty).

 No.933938

>>933937

>Dynasty

What's the deal with that? I mean they still have a "download page" button. Are they actually trying to prevent downloads or is that just how their reader is built?

 No.933945

>>933938

How the reader is built. They also have a download chapter button. As far as I know the only restriction on downloading on Dynasty is 8 chapters per day due to bandwidth concerns.

 No.933947

>>933936

"Works on my machine."™

 No.933949

>>933906

I have no problem with groups asking for donation money because all the content is distributed for free anyway, but many of these groups:

>do timed exclusives for their donators, which is not only wrong but often gets groups like this into legal hot water

>act like they need donation money to pay for raws but get WELL above what their expenses cost and never say a word about it

>put really shitty ads on their websites, hence the whole reason for this drama

So I hope they all perish in obscurity on their gay little websites because all the retards that read their work will go to shitty, spyware-laden aggregators instead.

 No.933950

Why does this website matter over the ten other ones you can be using? It looks like it's just full of porn stuff and it doesn't even have an option to sort by genre.

 No.933967

>>933949

I have misspoken. Accepting money to cover the costs is OK. But begging and nagging for donations is even higher level of degeneracy than using manga pages as your own blog. I would rather read raw and buy actual manga books.

 No.933986

>>933936

I don't think they're trying to prevent downloads.

I've written a script to download from Mangadex and I didn't have to jump through any hoops to get it to work. They have a nice api which serves json and everything.

I haven't even encountered any rate limiting when downloading dozens of chapters in rapid succession.

 No.934017

>>933906

>>933967

I see, I agree.

>degeneracy

Please use that word when it's actually contextually relevant, not as a meaningless insult. It's already losing meaning thanks to its entry into the wider Internet lexicon.

 No.934029

>>934017

What >>933967 means to say is that begging for donations is of equal value to the quantum energy level of using manga pages to blog.

 No.934165

>>933819

>So, what is the cause?

Money.

A cabal of faggots got together in the false belief that if they all just walk away from Mangadex that everyone will go to their adware, coin miner, and virus ridden websites to get their releases instead of just going to another aggregator that doesn't give a fuck about whether or not they want their releases on their site.
