S0 and G also carried the plot between episodes better. Every episode in S0 and G ended on a cliffhanger to set up the next episode, and the stakes were always increasing. Even if there was a lot of down time in the episode it never failed to set up excitement going forward. GX is probably the worst offender for this, but there was a string of episodes that were so self contained it killed any excitement going forward. They went [character personality problem]->[problem made clear]->[problem resolved]->Oh by the way we're doing this for every character, next week is ...
The overall narrative may have been carried through it, but it stopped any excitement from carrying through. Another way to look at it is that the stakes were the exact same. This symphogear needs their emotional damage healed or they can't dainsleif and a doll is coming for them.
I haven't rewatched GX in a while, but if I remember correctly the excitement kept building reasonably well until Hibiki got btfo so hard I screamed like a schoolgirl and the episodes after that were much slower than symphogear really needs to be. Even If there were good moments like Tsubasa's "These aren't swords", they were really only as memorable as they are because everything else was so bland.
My memory may be off though.

AXZ is pretty much filler. I can't remember a single important thing besides learning Hibiki has no sin.
