That's a cute picture, anon. I always like these older anime that deal with future tech. I guess back then it seemed plausible, but now it seems pretty silly.

I guess the disc could have been an OS or something, i wonder if it had an explanation as to why Chi got thrown out. I don't think they ever show a minidisc ever again, so it's unclear if persocoms use them or if you'd have to put it into a PC. idk where you're stick a minidisc into a persocom anyway.

I dunno, I guess it depends what you consider a "good end". The human Yumi is dating a guy twice her age while the persocom Yumi got fucking decked by a truck. The apartment manager is kinda on her own still, I guess at least she knows her "daughter" is with a good guy. Although she knew who Chi was the whole time and didn't really try to help her... The prep school teacher and Shinbo probably have the happiest ending, although even that wasn't ideal. She wants to be a school teacher and he's just some 18 year old kid with no education or real job. I think life is going to be tough for them.

As far as the no pupils thing, I think I noticed it from time to time. I thought the style was supposed to be that persocoms had no pupils while the humans did. But from your images it seems that's not entirely true. In the last episode (or maybe the second from the last) the persocoms actually did get regular eyes like humans, just for a moment. I think that was supposed to be a result of Chi's program, but they went away pretty quickly. I dunno, it felt like the ending was supposed to be that Chi's program gave persocoms some sort of human emotion or something, and the eye symbolism was a metaphor for that. But it isn't really explained or anything. Kinda felt like they ran out of time there at the end.

I have fond memories of Chobits but I watched it over a decade ago and I haven't had much drive to rewatch it, so I have no idea if it holds up at all. Chii was cute and the OP was adorable and was stuck in my head all the time. I have a poster of Chii up on my wall and I like to look at it to feel warm and happy.

Like I said in the OP, I think it's a cute story, but certain parts kinda fall flat. The main issue seems to be the idea of humans dating persocoms. Hideki is a country boy who never had a gf and doesn't even really know that much about persocoms. He also doesn't really have his pick of the litter (so to speak) when it comes to humans, since every girl in his life ends up with someone else. In that respect it's pretty shallow. The only one who shows him real affection is Chi, so what is a horny 18 year old supposed to do? I think it would have been more compelling if he really chose to be with a persocom but he kinda just went with his only choice.

In addition to that, all the human relationships around him sort of have bad experiences when it comes to human/persocom romantic relationships. It kinda all works out in the end, but still. Humans dating persocoms is framed pretty negatively throughout the show. And the end is pretty anticlimactic in that respect. You kinda want more than what we're given. I think the message was supposed to be that love is love, regardless of what you are, but it's pretty muddled by the finer points of the show. It is a cute show though, and I think it appeals to a certain part of our brains that enjoys the idea of rescuing a girl and having her love us unconditionally. I'm not saying it was a bad show, just that it's probably aimed at younger people than me.

And Hideki sure does love buying porn, although it's never really explained when he finds time to "enjoy" it. Since Chi is with him from the moment he lives at the apartment, where the hell is he jerking off? Does Chi watch? He lives in a tiny little 1 room apartment after all.

Maybe, that was just my impression of the show. I think it's worth a watch and definitely a fun ride, just felt a little shallow in the end. I do hope we get persocoms one day though. I don't know much about relationships though, especially ones in Japan.

It just seemed to me like there was a lot more meat to the setting and theme of the show, but they kept it very surface level and we got a lot of filler instead.
