They didn't really do Kazuma's talking over someone else thing right. In Konosuba they did it to add in more humor to scenes that were otherwise dull or too straightforward. He shouldn't do it when he's just having a normal conversation with someone.

There's a lot that's just not happening in the humour department and the pacing is off to the point it feels like a third of each episode is just straight up missing. Taking an episode and a half for intros probably didn't help at all.

1. Toyota continually spergs out in public and makes an idiot of himself, and has this unfounded idol worship of Emilia, which ties into...
2. Emilia being a boring and non-engaging character who doesn't really do anything and has this supposedly terrible social stigma that we never see, yet Honda decides that she's worth dying for because she was nice to him once.
3. The girl with actual character, backstory, and overall development who actually confesses to Mitsubishi gets rejected because he'd rather chase after the person who's expressed exactly zero romantic interest in him
Basically, it's the characters that ruin it. The story is pretty workable, and there's a lot of individual elements that work right. I'd say that the anime itself was actually pretty good until the initial mansion arc was resolved. Then his Emilia worship just piledrives it into the ground as the plot turns into "Ford tries to support Emilia and dies each time because she's as useful and strong-willed as wet cardboard."

We see him literally from being scared to die, shitting his pants at the very prospect to it, to him just shrugging death off as long as he gets the desired result. I just kinda like the slow dip into insanity that Toyota goes which characters actually point out.
The anime also completely butchered the relationship Honda and Rem had, to the point that in other isekai comparison it'd be like not having Ainz's monologues, Konosuba without Aqua or Youjo without Being X. The LN is VERY in detail about Subaru's relationship with Rem to the point people actually comment them being like an old couple who tease each other and stuff. Hell the "I love Emilia" is but a fraction of what he actually said to Rem. I want to see a Groundhog Day type story where the MC ends up breaking out of it after however many countless cycles, and the story turns to him struggling with building back his sense of mortality, and his ability to accept things going wrong. After spending potentially years in those loops, and reaching the point of "savescumming" by casually killing himself whenever he has bad luck, how does he readjust to life where mistakes and death are permanent? Or even readjusting to the fact that things can be unexpected?
It wouldn't work the same for Subaru's style since he still does make progress, but generally speaking.

I don't know how that would work. How could you show that the MC is back to being mortal again without him dying and ending the story? And even if you manage that how can you have him making mistakes and going through the struggle to readjust without again dying as a result and ending the story?

You're mis-remembering (well it's like one line in the anime).
Mages mostly canalize mana through "enchanted" items (jewel around their necks synchronize their own mana with the ambient mana and the item, "dual core" jewel virtually double the capacity. Tanya quad core "impossible" jewel quadruple it) but they can use "spells" using their own mana (it's what they do when using "artillery" spells) too.
Her mana is average sized for a veteran combat mage, but unlike most, probably because she started so young, she can use it instinctively to the point she probably can do so even without a jewel (which is something one mage in a generation is capable of), meaning her conversion of mana is quasi-lossless so she de facto put way more in her spells.

Aqua getting scared doesn't really mean Aqua was in remotely any danger. Likewise, Kazuma has control over her not because his "powerlevel" is higher, but because Aqua's a bit of a moron and trusts Kazuma to keep her in line. Or relies on Kazuma to keep her in line.
The point is that how Aqua interacts with mortals, be it prideful, scared, arrogant, or meek, is never really an indication of how Aqua's strength is. Ainz and pals dismissing her as a threat because "No one strong could be that stupid" is like a running gag. Aqua IS that strong. But she forgets this fact herself sometimes.
What I'm saying is if Aqua was in your way you'd probably succeed via bullying her, but try any serious bullshit and you're likely to get God Blow Requiem'd. Or some biblical flood or something.

>Aqua IS that strong.
All of Aqua's stats except luck and intelligence are supposed to be amazingly "high", though we don't know what that actually means other than significantly higher than an average person's. And yet she failed to even damage a giant frog she was actually trying to kill, and those are only mid-to-low level monsters. We know she's decently resilient but probably not as much as Darkness and all of her offensive capabilities seem to be either her powerful healing spells being highly effective against undead since they have an opposite effect and her nature as a goddess making her effective against demons, and again that's only with magic. When she fought Darkness possessed by Vanir she was pretty much doomed if not for Kazuma and the other adventurers to protect her, so I don't know how dangerous she would be to a "regular human" like Tanya.
I don't know how much use discussing power level bullshit with regard to Konosuba is since it seems more geared towards making funny gags and not consistent worldbuilding.

The frogs were resistant to magic, although YunYun killed them easily enough (with lightning, which might be an amphibian's weakness, mind you). I cant seem to find any data for the more recent sales, but it was in the top ten (#4) for overall LN series sales in 2016, selling over a million copies with each novel releasing to top 50 individual sales at least per book.
The anime was the 21st best selling anime of 2016. selling about 70K disks
Its also won a slew of LN awards and been nominated or placed top three for even more.
So to summarize, it is or at least was popular in Japan when it released. They are probably trying to drum up interest for a new release or big event which is why they agreed to this.

Yes, that is the joke, but they didn't execute it right.
To my mind there are two ways to go about it. One would be to cut very abruptly as soon as she actually starts talking, which would be funny because it's surprising and also for communicating that "yeah you know how this goes, moving on" message. The other way would have been to let her actually ramble on for a while, and show the reactions of the other characters, maybe even doing a few time skips to get humor out of how long her speech is, before eventually cutting. What they did was somewhere in between and carried the humor of neither. It was a very awkward and stilted way to execute the joke.

I'm autistic tempted to make pie charts of screentime of characters per license per episode to mathematically demonstrate that basically Kurogane and his friends are ruining this show, which is the reason it became so shitty in the last few eps.
I mean they brought back knight perfect, the faggot with hair and the other girl, chars that no one likes or even remember (they're barely chars to begin with) they don't bring back fan favorites??? No comic relief chars???
No best girl? No beastman with pompadour as a delinquent? No betelgeuse as PE teacher?
None of the maids use for comic relief from Overlord (Nabe and Lupus)? They're here but they get 0 screen time. I mean even Entoma and Solution (you know the only two chars in Overlord that actively eat humans) could be wacky.
The only thing we get from this is Yunyun bullying... which in a school setting, suddenly hits too close to home and isn't that funny.
The only other non Re-Zero char we get is Chris, which isn't a comical char at all as she's the straight men to Kazuma when they're paired.
So not only it sucks but they really picked the blandest chars of all the franchise (except Tanya other subordinates, that barely exist. I also don't get why they bothered with all 4 of her lieutenants when 2 barely exists. Tanya her adjutant, her vice-leader and her junior Lt. would have been plenty).
