This was all an elaborate hypothetical scenario, a character imagining what would happen if they were to actually confess and make progress. Nothing has actually happened in the story. Jun is still living in denial, ardently throttling any boners he has over his best friend with a combination of mental blocks and sheer willpower. Tomo is still working up the nerve to say something and wondering if she should cause more hijinks in an effort to make him crack. The manga turns out to be a whacky side adventure up until now and is shown to actually be about Tomo's parents, and the manga finally follows them more thoroughly.

Part of it is also about how she doesn't recognize her own femininity until the man makes it all too clear she's a woman. Look at how Tomo blooms when Jun treats her right.
No.926018
>>925907
It's a lot of things. The charm isn't so much that she's like a boy, but that she doesn't try to be a girl. She's not overly concerned with her beauty, trendiness, or anything that we tend to associate with superficial, illusory, normalfag femininity. Her femininity is expressed more organically; with the hourglass frame beneath her hoodie and gym shorts, with her tan-lines, with the playfulness of her voice, or the softness of her skin as she tries to grapple you. Because she's honest with herself, she's honest with others which means no bullshit mind games or manipulation. She's a misfit in her own right which means she would tolerate, or ideally, even share your hobbies and interests. I think >>925909 really gets at the anon level of psychological appeal. If you never entered the normalfag circle in life, just hung out with other guys with geek interests, female culture is a foreign and bizarre thing which the tomboy stands apart from. The lack of understanding between the sexes is one of the most frustrating aspects of reality and even normalfags seem at least subconsciously fed up with it. Romantic intimacy means a deep level of mutual understanding, and a girl who sees life with the same eyes as you is attractive for that reason. There's also the gap-moe aspect that >>925910 touches on. She doesn't care about being girly on her own, but her attempts at being girly for you can be both hilarious and heart warming. She bashfully tries out new things for you like wearing an apron the kitchen or a ribbon in her hair saying "this doesn't suit me at all!", and she reluctantly gives in to your teasing and compliments until one day after years of that same back and forth she's holding her first born child for the first time and she doesn't regret any of it. Finally, they're just generally genki and positive, which means they're holy creatures who spread happiness and love.

It's even simpler than that. The fact is sociopathy is a feminine trait. It's why everyone, even the chads, hate 3DPD. The perfect illustration of this phenomenon is that women hate other women. It's why 2D is so refreshing: when was the last time in human history that two women hung out and didn't secretly hate each other? It just doesn't happen. Hell, here's an even better example: the behavior of the female protagonists in this very manga. It's unrealistic that they are pure or that they are friends to the extent that they are, but the outlines of sociopathic, narcissistic, machiavellian 3DPD are visible in Misuzu and to a lesser extent in Carol.
Tomboys are not sociopaths, but still have all the traits men care about, namely the sexual body parts and ability to be cute. They would back you up in a fight rather than wait for someone to win and fuck him. They are the best of both worlds.

No.926671
I wouldn't go as far as say 'hate', but their friendship link is incredibly weak.
They can make (and forget) friends at lightning speed - it's almost as if it's a commercial relationship.
Also, when a girl get a boyfriend, it seems her previous personality is override by the guy's - this includes political views, likes and dislikes, way of talking, dressing, eating, etc.
I would say they can adapt very well to changing environments, as if they're hollow recipients who can empty and fill depending on the setting they are and with whom.
They're also very needy, they have a default 'spoiled' normalisation, and when they aren't, they simply seek the fastest and easier way to be spoiled again.
I think this all comes back to the adaptive passiveness women had throughout evolution. They needed it because during warfare (even tribal one), they needed to be prepared to have the men of their tribe die and submit to their conquerors. Women don't have a natural mechanism to prefer fighting and dying, they surrender, they compromise, they obey, they accept, they follow, they do as they're told. Before it was men doing the leading, their families and husbands - now it's TV, magazines and college professors and that's why there's a massive gap between single and married women regarding political views, as they have different "masters".
I think the only situation where a women is prepared to do this
>a natural mechanism to prefer fighting and dying
Is when her offspring is in danger (and she values her offspring) or when a lower male is trying to impregnate her and create lower offspring.

Both of these myths are as fantasy as 2d. Women kill their own children more than any other group. More over, women have no problem being raped. In fact they desire it. The reason rape is bad is because it's bad for men. 3DPD having morals at all is a myth.

It's not delusions, it's the truth. The number one cause of children being murdered is their mother. The number one fantasy of women in general is being raped.
No.930870
>>930866
How on earth do you equate fantasizing about something with actually wanting it to happen? It's easily as ridiculous as saying lolicons want to fuck real children.
In a rape fantasy you choose exactly who you imagine, everything you imagine them doing, and can ignore every unpleasantness. You're in complete control of everything. It's just about the farthest thing you can have from actually being raped.
It certainly seems odd that when faced with an advancing hostile army (e.g. the Soviets), women kills themselves in the thousands rather than let the soldiers rape them, if they're so eager for it to happen.
>the person with by far the most contact with a kid is the most likely to harm it
Not really all that surprising, but in any case, child murders by any group aren't exactly common. If that's proof that 3D women in general lack morals, then you certainly must lack them too, because I can't think of any group that doesn't commit terrible crimes at at least comparable rates.
Frankly, it seems like you're letting your distaste for 3D women shape what you think they are, instead of the other way around, and viewing them as if they were a direct opposite to 2D, which they aren't. 3D people aren't some collective deliberate embodiment of everything we dislike, the way 2D characters are designed and crafted to be an embodiment of things we value. They (and we, since we're both 3D too) just exist. Deeply flawed, and not important, but not perfectly bad.

Japan seems to have a fetish for weak spinelessness when it comes to romance, fuck knows why. If it's a harem or romance story, the dude is a clueless, stupid dork who is deathly afraid of being assertive at any time for any reason that isn't standing up for some ridiculous shounen ideal (at which point he may be yelling loudly with a clenched fist and tears in his eyes).
And on the flip side of that, since I just mentioned shounen, they'll have macho or assertive or confident and/or sarcastic guys in various stories, but those stories virtually never involve romance in any way. No idea why Japan does this, for 99% of the content that comes out of there you basically have "the main guy is a spineless beta bitch or there is no romance whatsoever; choose one."
No.934056

The kids you're selling your manga/anime to aren't リア充 chads. They're the nerdy types who find women confusing and intimidating. In the case of harem specifically you also need to have the MC be denser than a neutron star in order to keep the actual harem going.

Except Togashi's shounen. In Yu Yu Hakusho I remember Yusuke slapping his girl's ass and promising to marry her once he's done beating up demons in hell. And Gon is canonically a slayer of multiple Ara Ara pussies at the age of 11. But >>934056 anon is right, this type of media is marketed toward nerdy types and I guess now it's just integrated into the cultural consciousness of how anime and manga should handle these things.

Back before the world wars it was also customary for girls to try and attract their mates by demonstrating certain skillsets or appeals. They would take their suitor home and cook for him in an attempt to show that they're wife material, for example. When Gon goes on that date with Palm, Killua asks him if he has experience with women, Gon replies that he does because lots of ara ara tourists would show up on Whale Island, he'd show them around and they'd teach him things. It's clear cut that he fucked them. Moreover, he was pretty great at handling Palm considering she was a yandere that was repeatedly stabbing hundreds of Gon dolls with her knife. He's quite simply the most chad protagonist that's ever been shown in anime or manga.

Sure, but it's clear we're talking the modern milquetoast conveyor belt that anime and manga have become. There are far more exceptions to this before 2000, and as a general cliche I don't even think it applies to the 1980s and early 90s. Jean from Outlaw Star was a protag I liked a lot because he was an assertive, likeable guy who had his own flaws and issues, but wasn't flustered or bothered by the idea of closeness to chicks (as evidenced by getting with a couple). And that one show spoiled me because I went forward expecting and hoping to see more MCs like him in shows, but his kind went the way of the dinosaur and was replaced by insufferable faggots.
Like I get the draw of inexperienced nip animu males (animales?) getting all red faced and tongue tied at so much as a thought of holding hands, but it's to the point it's horribly overdone on seemingly every fucking character ever nowadays that has even the smallest sprinkle of romantic subplot.
Though I gotta say the Love is War (dunno if that was the actual title) show from earlier this year was well fucking done comedically and without resorting to beating such a dead horse, can't remember the last time I've enjoyed a Nipponese romcom so much.

No.934234

as gay as MAL is, the top rated reviews for the 2011 HxH are verbose and well articulated explanations for why the show/material succeeds despite being so long (and almost all long series fail completely at some point with storytelling). The short version is that it consistently keeps things fresh, doesn't fall into cliche traps, doesn't keep itself predictable, and subverts/inverts a lot of tropes you'd see in a show like it. It's a story that doesn't really lose speed or stop failing at engagement. You should read the reviews to better give voice to the kinds of impressions you have about it, since the 2011 show is pretty faithful to the source.
