I was 0% sold on that play being presented by grade schoolers. On one hand, it resulted in a much more fancy and nice story being presented, but on the other, it started to have just about nothing to do with this anime.
Neither this nor Uzamaid really caught me with their lolis, both of them were somewhat fun to watch, but all the characters seemed a bit too cynical, clearly aimed at an older audience, as opposed to, for example, the Colors or Non-Nons. Even Bermuda Triangle was way better at delivering straightforward youthful girl moe, despite those girls probably being like 50 years old.

You don't really have to be. After the intro everything took place in the play's universe.
I do disagree about the show itself too. There was something very child-like about these characters, both their personality and their animation. Their "clumsiness" really sold it.

There are many kinds of loli. Noa has a desperate need for attention and confirmation which is pretty typical for a spoiled-only-child. Compared to the others she seems the oldest only because she lurks on forums and imageboards to find out what cute thing is in fashion. Hana is hardly well behaved. Shes a lazy brat who only cares about food. Of the anime mentioned Bermuda has the best little girl characters. Colors are straight comedy, Nonnons are less comedic but the same target audience, Uzamaid is just advanced manzai. None of these actually has the little girl appeal.

The musical was actually kind of beautiful and sentimental. Thought it was gonna be a standard or goofy number, not something like this. Does that mean Hinata got knocked up as a child? Was that the coveted universe where you are the little girl, even in your last moments? Shame we didn't get horny Mya-nee, I thought she would be blubbering and run to the stage to hug them, while the parents are surprised. Still, the mad cunt got a loli bathtub end, so that's great. Even Hana didn't seem to mind.

>Noa forgetting her fake eyebrow at the end was supremely cute too.
Actually, I'm pretty sure Noa did not actually have a fake eyebrow at all. There is a fade-in and a fade-out for the play where it moves from actual stage to into the imagined world and then out of the imagined world and back to the actual stage. In the first instance, the camera zooms in on Mya-nee's eye and we see the field of flowers as it is depicted in the imagined world (webm related). The fade-out doesn't have an equivalent depiction but it does move from the imagined blue sky back to the actual stage's blue sky. Thus, all the detail of the majority of the play is from Mya-nee's mind. She is fleshing it out and making more out of it than there is actually there. We might see she is getting sucked into the play.
Besides Noa's eyebrow there is one other indication that this is part of Mya-nee's imagination (besides the obvious embellishments like Goddess Noa being huge or the set details): Matsumoto and Matsu-imouto show up at the store to buy sweets but we see them in the audience when the play is ending. I think it is safe to assume that they were not in costume to act as extras, changed back into their normal clothes, and then rejoined the audience. So Mya-nee has added this detail in, probably imagining one of the extra little girls as this pair.
No.915698
>>915694
Yeah, we're seeing the play in her imagination rather than what's actually going on. As amazing as this grade school seems to be, I doubt they're doing dangerous wire-work stunts to make the angels fly around like that.
Seeing Noa use the Mya-nee wig during the end of the play was a nice way of explaining how Miyako sees a younger version of herself at the end.

Since you brought it up, after how much I enjoyed Wataten I decided tofinally watch the last few episodes of Uzamaid. Both shows have a few similar points as anons noted before.
>older girl falls in love with loli
>wants to dress her up in cute clothes she makes
>they bond through food she prepares
>the loli's cuteness is mentioned a lot
>there's two other main lolis in the cast, one of which likes the older girl a lot and/or is obsessed with her cuteness
>the older girl gets a creepy stalker her own age later in the series
>making flens is a theme
Uzamaid had it's moments but it never came close to this series. There's even some parts that felt like a real chore to watch. Mostly the jokes. Their delivery wasn't all that great and the reactions of other characters lasted too long, which ment the episode would grind to an halt and usually ruin any mood that the scene had built up. The music in these scenes was also way too noticeable. The "horror" theme and theme of the stalker meido was funny for the first few times but it was just way overused.
The drama scenes could have been handled better too. It was nice to finally learn their entire backstory in the finale but it just didn't have all that much impact. Wataten's story within the story from this last episode felt more emotional.
While I haven't read much of either manga, the lack of fanservice was also a big problem in uzamaid. It's not even just misha, the maid has also quite few fanservice scenes in the panels I saw and both are missing in the anime. I doubt that it would have even come close to their highly detailed bodies from the manga but then it might have had at least something more going for it.
It's not like I'm trying to shit on it too hard annd I doin't regret watching it but this series was just so much better in every way.
