Konosuba and many other new shows have either had insanely priced Blu-rays (Konosuba S1 is $500). Now my beloved Recovery Of An MMO Junkie still has NO English Blu-ray release that I can find. Best I found was a Japanese one for $230 USD.

Do we have to start making our own high-quality bootlegs now???

I really want Net-juu (mmo junkie) on English Blu-ray.

 No.912011

Umm, the BD for Recovery of an MMO Junkie comes out on March 14 for english. There is also a BD rip already made by kaizoku for it that came out earlier in January. This is the usual process if you're buying english BD. They come way later even after they are dubbed in a simulcast. Mostly to maximize revenue from the stream profits and taking time to make the extras that are physical.

 No.912014

I mean, I'd like to have physical copies of some things in Laser Disk, for example, but you're never going to get the best subs unless it's bootleg anyway, and pirated digital copies are going to be the best for that, if you actual want to watch from the physical copy and not just have a physical collection.

Besides, buying localized shit doesn't give money to the creators, so it feels like a stain on my conscience to support localizing companies.

So learn Japanese, fag.

I do buy a handful of translated manga series, but would never consider it for anime.

A printed manga is a physical medium, while an anime in disk form is physical storage. One affects how it's consumed while the other affects only how it looks on your shelf. A book can't easily be replicated from unofficial scanlations, but if I wanted an anime on disk I could buy a burner and a shitload of blanks for cheaper than even a single official disk set, and end up with better subs anyway.

I have always believed the first and foremost reason why anons buy BDs is to suport the mangaka/studio/improve a beloved show's chances of getting out of the "season 2 never ever" abyss that most anime fall into.

And then the fact that a ptistine copy of your favorite anime is sitting on the shelf in pretty packaging is just a bonus.

Personally though I haven't found any show that makes the extreme price justified.

Older, more obscure titles released only on LD, for example, would be worth buying. Especially if rips online are shit, as you are obliged to provide better quality anime to your fellow anons.

 No.912026

I like to buy random anime on VHS I can find buried in shady thrift stores. Sometimes you can get lucky and find something rare, like a video tape promoting anime from a 1997 con I found, or some original college fan subs from the 80s.

 No.912028

>>912026

I hope you have a comfy CRT terebi to go with that VHS player.

I bet the experience of watchimg anime that way is so pleasant, I'm a little envious of you.

 No.912031

So much anime never made it to DVD, let alone BD. If you find any anime on LD, buy it straight away. It's analog video that is miles better than DVD and most rips online are from DVD releases.

That reminds me, Noriko's bush is only viewable through the Gunbuster LD.

>>912028

The only way to watch Lain is through VHS on a CRT. Not to mention Video Girl Ai.

By the time everyone involved in retailing a localized physical disk to western countries has taken their cut, the people who actually worked on the anime aren't going to be left with much. Importing merchandise is a better way to support them. Besides, I don't think any western contribution is going to make much of a difference to sales to studios and publishers compared to what China and Japan bring in.

 No.912091

>>912007

No one buys anime on disc in the west any more, they're all just streamfags who stuff money into the Crunchyroll/Netflix demon-pig's mouth. Throwing away their hard earned dollars on crappy low bitrate video that might not even be on available to watch again once the license expires. If you want to buyfag, but the Japanese BDs. Some of your money actually goes right to the studio when you do this.

>I really want Net-juu

Thank you for reverting to the proper name.

Don't you know the director of that show is a racist big nazi guy? Do you really want any respectable localization company to touch that show any more than they have to? Like seriously?

Wow just wow because of this I am never watching anime again, it's strictly Nazi-free media for me such as visual novels.

 No.912148

I truly believe >>912091 is right though, OP.

If you insist on buyfagging you should import the Nip edition and just download a BD rip with good subtitles for you to actually watch.

Or hurry up and learn moonrunes already and once you have you can treat yourself to popping that Nip BD in the player while you go "ofufufu" to yourself.

$500 for Konosuba S1 isn't an insane price, that is typically pricing for Japanese Blu-rays.

I do not care about supporting the creator, they can go bankrupt for all I care, I buy blu-rays because I want the blu-ray.

Funny you say that and post a picture from Endro, I actually have all 4 BDs of Endro pre ordered and will be buying the 4 figures that are already planned.

>evil merchants

The ones that want me to give money to a company for digital distribution which is essentially giving a donation to a company are the evil merchants. I don't give a shit about supporting them, but if they have something I want then I will give them money for it. Instead of asking for donations they should function like the business they are.

I forgot English Blu-rays were a thing and seeing this post made me scared that the anime industry in general was moving away from the format. I'd import some Blu-rays if I had a lot of money, but even if I wasn't intent on learning moonrunes I would still go for original Japanese releases, just because they are nicer releases for the most part.

 No.920920

>seeing this post made me scared that the anime industry in general was moving away from the format

Why would that scare you?

The hardware side of the Blue-ray format is fine, but the software/legal side is burdened by enormous amounts of shitty DRM and awful licensing terms. Last time I checked there was no legal way to play BDs on a linux system - you either pay for a licensed external player (which might also require a licensed display device) or you have to illegally crack the encryption. The DVD format has similar issues, but the DRM in BDs is much more sophisticated.

Personally, when I'm in a position to support the industry, I'll only buy analog products: either physical books or figures.

 No.922467

>>920920

Yeah, that's me for the most part. I still buy anime I absolutely love on Blu-Ray, unless it's Konosuba because fuck them for charging $300+ for 12 episodes.

Anyway, Net-Juu just got released on Blu-Ray and I found a Region B release. So I'll probably be picking that up.
