Soleil reminds me a bit of yellow from heartcatch. The wonderful athlete with sun based power that seems to be overpowered compared to pink and blue. Shes appearing early enough though to be really close with Lala and Hikaru. Seems like Serene/Madoka will go the same way too. Hopefully the Sun/Moon combination will make for good friendship building.

Sensors or armpits?

An interesting discussion point came up with the school part of this episode. In Lala's world there is no school because everyone is connected to the global AI database. The only thing children would have to learn is how to use the AI effectively along with basic survival skills. This is likely why the age of adulthood is 12.

In all likelihood the AI system handles reproduction for them since it probably stores the DNA of everyone. Simply telling the AI you want a kid with person X should be enough. Going further with this there is no reason for concepts like marriage, monogamy, and so on to exist at all. The AI can throw as many DNA samples in the pool as requested and toss out the nasty mutations. What this means is hopefully Lala pushes Hikaru for a precure harem.

So we got an incredibly athletic hafu so far we know her dad's a spic, but why 'ciao' then? The closest used is 'chau' which is a corruption of said phrase., a cute loli cyclops who already caught many artists' attention and a bit more of physical combat. Soleil's looks like she'll be a weird combination of Sunny and March sadly without the tomboy parts and her fighting style is unique enough to separate them from the other two.

Indeed this is probably why Selene appears so early with a good but rushed story. The good news is that with all the cures introduced, we now have some 10 months to build up characters and story. The dark pen story next week could be really good or really bad. The preview makes it seem like its going to be bringing more bad guys into the picture to even out numbers for battles. Hopefully the dark pen returns later in the story and we get a dark precure.

In big brother news, the Gaim Zangetsu stage play happened and apparently melon man gets a Kachidoki form. There's also prototype arms of Gaim, Baron, Ryugen, Gridon and Bravo.

The most exciting time of the week has finally arrived.

What starts with "N" and ends with "igger"?

We upgraded from a bunch of subordinate bad guys to one big one. Having a regular human trapped inside again after getting some character building is good instead of what we got with Hugtto of random person with bad feelings or frustration. The best part of this episode was the battle was actually a battle. The cures took visible damage and delivered visible damage. きらやば〜！Selene used her arrows without the introduction, Star used her first without calling it too. I have so much confidence in the director now that we will get good battles later on. The only real concern is that these bigger monsters only happen with the magic pens and only 10 remain. The bad guys need to make more of these pens or the director and writer are smart and use them only for important battles.

The SoL part before the battle was solid. The girls are awkward around each other since they don't know each other that well and thats a good thing. Elena and Madoka didn't try to stop Lala and Hikaru from arguing as they shouldn't for now. For them its only been a few days or weeks since Lala and Hikaru met so they don't understand each other well enough to accept the good intentions Hikaru had or the frustration Lala was feeling. The old man picking up on that is great and showing his space autism to Lala only is important for both of their characters. Even better is that fixing the rocket extends into next week with everyone helping and hopefully being as awkward around each other but growing closer slowly. Soleil learns flaming slide tackle next week too.

I enjoyed this episode far more than the last one. The plot and conflict felt less rushed. It was good to see them strugle again, both with their enemy and with each other.

First monster showed up, wonder if the other two will start using them as well. They bad guys are giving the precure the items they need, but that happens nearly every season so nothing to worry about. There are ten more pens to get, getting them all seems like something for a mid-season finale.

With the ship and Lala's tracker, will these cures become more proactive that normal? Flying off to other worlds looking for the pens rather than waiting for the bad goes to stumble into them, that's happened three times already so not the worst plan. I would like to see the cures launching assaults on Notraider controlled worlds and freeing alien races, but I don't expect it. Them exploring would be enough.

This was great. A whole episode to just building the rocket and building friendships. Even the AI is getting into it. I love the fact that they are planning long space trips. Even the battle gentle implied that they have to go to space now since the bad guys found the rocket. Will they get back in time for school on Monday? Thats part of the fun!

The dog planet means another magic pen most likely. Does the western zodiac have a dog on it or will it be a dog from eastern zodiac aligns with the western (insert here)?

The battle this week had good hand to hand style combat. I wasn't expecting Selene to be the most physical. Milky learned great heart barrier too.

I'm not too well versed on sentai anyway I only fully watched Zyuohger, it was fun even if the end felt a bit rushed, but I did enjoy more of it. Start is kind of average but I liked the slightly darker feel of it, but aside from that I couldn't care about the plot as much. Aside from Hikaru being Hikaru there was a story this week. Elena did her best and no one got in the way of her character building. It was largely showing off what we already knew of her as being a gentle friendship maker. I wasn't expecting her to be this good at it though. Smiling, looking each other in the eye, and holding hands simultaneously isn't fair. Hikaru even helped push it by ignoring everyone and climbing the statue. Kappa brought a reasonable minion detachment for capturing a small item on a weak planet. Selene is still the most directly physical in battle. Hikaru and Lala used magical offense while Selene just threw the minions. I wanted to see furry precures. Next week we are back on Earth to thankfully slow the pen capture rate. Its a Madoka episode and the cyclops loli returns.

Kind of a letdown since it would've been fun to see Tsuku being more cold-blooded and go for killing kids, desperate to get a better future.

Meanwhile, Ryusoulger went too lighthearted too fast.

Hell they weren't even given time to mourn their masters, especially given the fact that they were all murdered in front of their eyes.

Decent episode this week. Nothing amazing happened but it's keeping up a good minimum level of quality. For instance, the fight was short but it had some dynamic uses of powers and Hikaru got swatted out of the air pretty good. The friendship parts were solid with significant handholding. I wish a little more happened with the rival ojou. I hope next time she sees some things she isn't supposed to see.

Next week, more Star Trek for little girls. I'm happy.

That was the whole point of the episode. To get about 80 percent of it based on Madoka making friends with the others and building her character. Arguably it was better than Elena's last week. I'm not going to care anymore about stretching out the pen hunting for a year. It seems like every week will lead to a new pen being collected and somewhere around midway through this story we get a intergalactic space battle or some pen arc climax then we restart with some new item.

The background character ojou definitely needs more screentime. She might be the side character hero of the story. Hopefully she starts looking into the cause of her passing out in the shopping area then waking up in the woods. Accidentally finding the rocket would be a neat development.

Hikaru is starting to act like a pink now as the one that brings everyone together. She did it well too and simply dragged Madoka out of her daily life struggle. It fits with Hikaru's mild autism and stubbornness to totally disregard the "atmosphere" and do as she likes. My only complaint with this episode is that we got a music montage for the fun and games in the shopping area. Getting that into full length content and pushing the battle aside this week would have been great, even if its a break from Precure tradition of weekly battles. Making strong friendships is sometimes more important than the battle.

Discoveries aside, still going great. Less fighting and more development is a decent tradeoff if done well, and in this episode it was. Madoka gets fleshed out and Hikaru as well, using her autistic powers and complete disregard for everything around her for the team's wellbeing again, and here's hoping we get to see her interact with Madoka's dad. Also, getting GoPri vibes already, the generals are being given a powerup. Team attack time.

And on the side observations, Sakurako would look great with glasses. I want to bully Eyewan!

They got their fluffy asses kicked and ran. Then Madoka's dad sees them land. I'm so happy with this development. They failed to get one pen and lost another one. We are in for a serious war over these pens if both sides trade them back and forth depending on power level. Hikaru is taking the blame for letting her autism bring them here to begin with. Some good character building for her and the bad guys this week.

The faces of shock, fear, and terror on Hikaru were priceless. I seriously thought they were going to lose all the pens entirely. When Fuwa stepped out I thought we were going to get the "just in time power up" trope but it was a false alarm and that's fantastic.

Great episode. I thought that something bad might happen when Hikaru wanted to go to space for her own enjoyment but I assumed it would be resolved by the end. Good thing that's not the case. I hope the conflict between Madoka and her dad is handled well. Seems like the Professor will find out the truth about the aliens next week too.

Also, damn I didn't expect Kappard to just grab the pen during her finisher attack. Isn't that against the rules? Is he going to kick them out of their transformation scenes next time?

The southern cross offense should have been built up more since its a combined attack they all should have been in the room with Hikaru and Jiisan. Hikaru was almost consumed by the darkness this week. I may or may not have teared up when she did. Given the theme of the show is imagination and drawing whatever you make up, its not a huge leap in logic for Hikaru to make up a new attack on the spot.

The bad guys got two power ups in a row isn't really a fair shake. Last week was a legit powerup by their master. This week they decided to work together at their regular power levels. What they did this week is more of a permanent usage case when they are all around. Last week was a one time deal. The butler being a double agent would be a nice twist later on. The cures need to get stronger before fighting him.

The backstory on the bad guys has arrived at a good time. It seems like Kappa is being pushed as the primary battle partner for Hikaru which is great. Little interactions between sides like this that slowly build up are one of my favorite parts of Precure. I have a good guess that Tengu will take on Soleil later. Hopefully the butler gets to fight Selene in elegant classy CQC. Which leaves lewd cyclops and lewder Lala.

I was going to say that Selene and Eye1 were the ones feuding, as well as EvoltSoleil and tengu slut. Lala so far is without rival, but then again we haven't seen the ogre fucker make its move so things might change from there. But yeah, HiKappa is pretty much confirmed.

Its nice to see Abe himself make a cameo. I guess using complicated political memes as a plot escape is fine. The bad guys got a permanent power up that is still lacking compared to the Southern Cross. The butler being visibly unsettled by the main bad guy partially awakening seems to suggest he might be a turncoat later on. The director being an alien was a big surprise.

Which one was the best actress? I think Elena did it the best. The rest were far too nervous. Hikaru had one job, combine kirayaba and gojyaru, and she failed.

Finally kept up. First of all, I need to talk bout how fucking good the Agito episodes were, so far the best focused on the past Riders.

Meanwhile, movie man is an Arquillian, much to doujin makers' dismay. Surprisingly enough, Elena pulls off acting well and I kind of want to see an episode of her and Madoka competing. The bad guys get a worse powerup than the previous one and get promptly fucked by the Southern Cross. Also it's becoming more evident that wolfcat man is a turncoat, he even becomes smug after the precure beat the notrigger. And I just realized he might be pretty related to the one character teased in the OP. Now Lala goes to school, back to status quo.

There is going to be some bullying later from the Elena and Madoka fanclubs るん. Now we now Lala is an idiot by human standards without her AI るん. Is it not considered cheating to use that thing in school? At some point someone will notice her constantly putting her hand to her ear るん.

The best part of this episode was non-Cure characters being relevant るん. That Kasunori guy I hope will be one of many characters they save and becomes a recurring face like the ojou るん (she did her best with that laugh this week). Local hero Cures are my favorite るん. It would be great to flesh out the teacher and other class mates るん. Kappa with the new powerup finally gets rid of the pens as the target and weapon of choice るん. Now anyone can be the target and the weapons are already on the bad guys るん. The notriggers will only appear for big battles now although the preview makes it seem like next week we get one るん.

Its not a bad thing but HikaruxLala is starting to steal the characterization from Elena and Madoka. Next week is an Elena episode (likely HikaruxElena) but I hope ElenaxLala and MadokaxLala comes in large quantities when the bullying arrives.

Well Elena's dad was certainly like I hoped he'd be. The drama itself was alright, I guess. It was quickly resolved but it didn't feel as one sided as I feared it might be. I'm a bit disappointed that Elena is half too. I guess that would have been too much drama for one family.

Hugtto would have gone down the most dramatic route possible. Thank Hikaru for a different writer and director than that disaster. It was a good family episode and we learned quite a bit about Elena. Tengu did a good job with her new power. I thought we were going to get clones of the upgraded weapons like last week but having Tengu make an upgraded minion is fitting with her commanding abilities. Have we already seen EyeWon with her new power?

Lala got bullied and apparently its okay to touch sensors with human boys. Getting attacked successfully during your super bodes well for later. Now that they have done it theres a higher sense of drama in battles during these scenes. I don't think anything will ever match or better the initial shock of Star's pen being grabbed mid attack.

Sadly thats the end of the character building for now. Its a bit disappointing to not get a Madoka or Hikaru episode. This week was a great opportunity to build MadokaxElena since they seemed to be the only two to initially notice Touma being unhappy. Instead we got Lala which is a decent compromise. I get the feeling Lala is the most popular among little girls in Japan.

Next week Star Trek Precure returns. Theres a new human looking character too. Is this the rumored Cure Cosmos making her first appearance? She has dark pink hair so I'd say yes.

Who was the animation director for this episode? These thick outlined character inserts are pretty きらやば and easy to edit into other images. I almost had a love at first sight encounter with Mao, lord have mercy she is adorable. Since the catman butler didn't show up I take it he is Mao or Mao's accomplice. Time will tell regarding that. When Mao joins full time I hope she and Madoka build a good friendship and until then they exchange pleasantries like they did this week. This episode was awesome.

Hair and Cures have a long and complicated history.

I've only seen a few random episodes of StinklePre while waiting for Zi-O to start and it looks pretty okay. I hate Hikaru's voice, though. Episode 15 was really good, but with Tanaka storyboarding that was a given. I've felt kinda burnt out on Precure ever since GoPri ended and haven't really kept up with it much. I recently watched all of KiraKira and it was better than I expected, but at this point I think I'd get more enjoyment out of rewatching older seasons than keeping up with the new ones, at least until Toei shits out designs that really grab me. I like the whole Showa aesthetic they're trying to go for with StinklePre but it feels really weak and absent most of the time.

This week Madoka shows her love her for Dad and childhood friend/archery rival. Its good that the cures exchanged friend items but I feel Madoka is closer to the rival archer than most everyone else. I wish Dad was more dere though, it could have been a very heartwarming episode about parents and children with the same hobby. Of course this could come up later which is also fine. The unsung hero of this episode is Himenojo. Next week the sweaty idol thief returns on Star Trek Precure!

I wasn't sold on this episode at first because of the premise. The show was already very fun and even unique, and having them focus on school feels like it would be a waste, dragging the show back down to its typical formula.

Instead, the fish out of water feels like it works much better here since Lala can't even read Japanese or do anything beyond single-digit math and is naturally embarrassed by how her lack of education stands out in comparison. Surfer Kappa was way cooler than what it had any right to be. Don't you get a literacy test or something before entering school in Japan anyway? Still, if the victim of the week could enter school, so can Lala.

Much like the previous episode, it's about a character kind of ashamed of his own customs, or rather how they are different from everybody else's. Since they're Mexicans, I was expecting more physical violence, Elena was about to bust out a fucking chancla once Touma said he hated his parents. Again, less dramatic or preachy than what you would see at Hugtto, and much better for it. Also Touma getting molested by mooks, nice. Scorpio Selene Shoot should've looked more like a scorpion's tail, but that's a personal nitpick.

Mao not being voiced by Mao Ichimichi is a crime against humanity, but aside from that Madoka bullshitting her way into an auction was the best scene. Also, apparently something like an "Abaresaurus" exists in their universe, nice reference. Blue Cat definitely has a connection to Bakenyan, and also I'm hoping for either a Space Pirate or a Space Sheriff to meet her. Also Sagittarius Selene Arrow looks more like an upgrade than the previous one.

Again, nice of the characters kind of reacting naturally about Madoka wanting to please his father while they're aware that he's still after their asses. Yumika is an alright antagonist, but Madoka should've either lightly snapped or simply not caring for her daring to talk shit about her friends. Also Selene this time outright does a Rider Kick. But enough about that, Planet Himenojo exists now and we should be thankful for it.

Next episode, Hikaru and friends become space criminals. Sounds like Gavan will have to show up.

I ended up dropping it after they poured salt in the wound for the Hibiki episodes, fuck that. Of all the things you could've done for the episode is bring the one character that represents the downfall of the show and give him all this relevance as opposed to any of the previously established characters also, the actor for Hibiki hates Toei for the staff change in the last quarter of Hibiki, and Asumu's actor recently retired, and still doesn't justify how they handled the episodes.

Elena and Selene have had the most love in terms of offensive upgrades. Hikaru has received nothing and rarely even uses her punch anymore. Maybe this is to build up some power of fist stuff later.

This week on Star Trek: Precure: Power Suit research completed.

Star Trek Precure was more Star Trek than Precure this week. I didn't think the usual suspects would turn up at all and it would be a pure Blue Cat episode doing semi-dangerous fun games in space. We did learn that Blue Cat can transform into pretty much anything with her magic spray so we have very good reason to believe the cat butler is not her assistant but Blue Cat herself.

It was good to see that both Elena and Hikaru noticed Mao's smile. it should help later when it comes time to integrate her into the team. There was a short preview of Mao's role later as quick thinking tactical leader. Up until now the girls just fought however they liked without much coordination. I hope Mao joins them sooner than later to execute better combo moves.

I like how the story is taking advantage of little character traits in a meaningful way. Instead of having Mao save them again in the cereberus room, Hikaru's autism and love of dogs does it. As a side note, how strong is Hikaru to flip over a dog easily 20 times her size and weight?
