Let's address the elephant in the room. Yeah, I get it that the false rape accusation stormed many cunts and the MC's rage is justified. But it's still overplayed and all over the place, it's evident the guy is not thinking rationally and this is all a setup for a variant isekai. A goody two shoes civilian doesn't become a brooding avenger two days after being sucked into a videogame world. His first idea wouldn't be to get revenge, but feeling alienated by the situation and seek for a way back. It's a little hard to explain if you're so used to the logic of isekais, but an actual person wouldn't rush to 'play the game' when transported to another planet.

>a bunch of crappy partial answers
Don't do this. The message was a single one: you failed to address its core and focused on (mis)understanding the separated parts. I know it makes you feel good to pretend you're refuting a dozen arguments, but I have the misfortune of seeing a retard dodge the only thing I said for 12 times.
1. I know he's been told the rules about going back to his world, but that doesn't mean a hero would necessarily accept his predicament and still seek more ways. He might even have considered the information false. My argument didn't address any of this, but your reasoning shows that you can't break outside the gaming logic of isekai: 'when the quest text says something, you have to do it'.
2. You focused on the word 'rationally', when the main point was actually the following:
>A goody two shoes civilian doesn't become a brooding avenger two days after being sucked into a videogame world.
Here, rational is the expected behavior of a human being. Sure he can get stunned and surprised, alienated and haunted, but you don't expect him to become an hysterical bundle of nerves after so little. Bringing up 'the emotions of this poor guy!!!' is just cringey.
As I said in my original comment, it's hard to explain to someone who can't think out of the logic inherent to isekais. Like you. What you have, here, is a mini character arc: but it's too fast and exaggerated to be credible. So the MC reactions are too far fetched. Want an example to drive the point home? Just imagine Naofumi instantly going back to the real world (no real reason, maybe God just happened to sat on the remote) after he's in super vengeful brooding mode: his brother comes by and tells him 'onii-san, why the fuck are you making an impression of Christian Bale? You were gone for 36 hours and you look like a totally different person'.

Again ignoring points that are answered in my original post, you should know why he had to if you watched/read shield hero. but then again you'll ignore this point like you've already done, why?
>hypothetical scenarios that don't and can't occur.
I just gave a relevant real world example displaying the exact behavior you considor so stupid actually occuring but like most of my comment you conveniently ignore that don't you. What more can possibly be done, while the anime is fast paced relevant to the manga/LN/WN the information is still there. If anything people are more edgelord directly after something happens and gradually chill out like what actually happens and not the opposite like whatever clownworld you live in.
>You were gone for 36 hours and you look like a totally different person'.
Again I appologise for the 3dpd but I've had to interact with a lot of homeless and I hope you get falsely accused of rape faggot, yes, even under a short time frame people can and do act and behave like very different people to the point it affects their whole life after traumatic events occur.

Even the manga skipped a good deal of this part.
Transformation had Naofumi giving firo to some of the jews henchmen asking why he sold him a strange bird. Jew gets confused and cages firo for testing.
Noafumi goes to the blacksmith but after a while is interrupted by the henchmen demanding he take firo back since she's causing such a mess and has broken out of her cage and attacks said henchmen.
After seeing naofumi she transforms into a loli since she feared being abandoned (previously foreshadowed by her refusing to sleep in a barn alone)
He then has to hide the naked loli in the blacksmiths house till he can get both clothes and a functioning monster seal and forcibly calms her down by saying if she doesn't behave she's getting the blue juice.
There is more stuff but this is the main crux of what happens

I doubt he's going to be actually vindicated soon, but this episode seemed extremely meh to me. The previous four were pretty great, everything was relatively gritty, played straight, and did well at developing motivations, actions, and emotions. In this episode, it all seems like a big "stuff happens, so what" kind of thing. Spear hero is portrayed as a stupid slapsticky white knight, undermining his previous establishment as a confident, arrogant ladies' man, and now instead just shown almost as a dumb comic relief antagonist who keeps losing and isn't to be taken seriously. Same thing happened with the princess, rather than being genuinely sinister and borderline evil, her personality in this ep is undermined by being portrayed as an easily flustered antagonist who isn't sly or clever at all about the things she's doing, and wears her emotions on her sleeve. This woman who is supposed to be a great actress. The birb stuff is all done in one shot without any real explanation for how or why it's happening (it got fat right after the race? why? turned into a loli after pulling a carriage and sleeping? why?), the race seemed like borderline filler...
I could go on. This just wasn't an engaging episode and all the characters felt like super flat cardboard cutouts of their former selves, aside from Naofumi just being Naofumi. I really hope this isn't a trend of how the show is going to continue.

It's only 5 episodes in. If you thought 2 or 3 of the first four were stupid and/or edgy, why are you even watching it? Because I don't think you're going to find it in this, it sounds like your expectations are off.
>Spear faggot and red slut were Team Rocket-tier this episode
That's a great way of putting it. It's why it felt like their characterizations were totally undercut and subverted with stupid shenanigans. Redheah is supposed to be sharp and insidious, in this ep she was a fumbling comic book villain.

The series does undergo periods of time where it seems more like a comedy than a serious, gritty story, but that serves as a reflection of Naofumi's mental state rather than the overall tone of the world. It's easily one of my biggest problems with anime in general. The Nipponese generally have some actual human make animal sounds rather than putting in real animal sounds, probably at a rate of 70% of the time. Sometimes it's bearable, other times it's horrible (like this episode). Sometimes it makes perfect sense (like saying "giro" as part of Froppy's character, since she's mostly human anyway, or if the Kemono Friends make animal noises), most times it doesn't (the zombie pupper from ZL Saga was voiced by some guy rather than just putting in dog barking samples, among a million other examples).
To me, it usually sounds bad, and this episode was worse than usual in that respect.

Firo is the one carriage pigeon loli that is truly just a giant baka rocks-for-brains. Pretty big spoiler, but then again he also ends up fucking Firo and having a bunch of kids in the WN. But in the WN he's basically forced to fuck everyone and give them children because he promised to make everyone happy. He just only travels as a god with Raphtalia.

I'm a little late to the party with this last episode, but while it's an improvement over the previous one, it's still sitting squarely in "blah" territory. I appreciate the worldbuilding, and a summoned hero working various non-murder-hobo angles to live and make money while ostensibly meant to be working toward saving the world is an interesting thing. Refreshing, I guess.
But the episode still makes the show seem like it's starting to get disjointed, slowly sliding off the rails. Filolials have a king or queen? That can transform for some reason? And they can speak human language? That all seems arbitrary and/or contrived and/or convenient, I don't know if it's any different in the source material, but that didn't sit right with me. It's like the explanations are excuses for Birb Loli's existence. And spending money for a crest on her? Why? He already gambled his money on an egg, hatched it, it imprinted onto him, and transformed into a naked loli who fell asleep in his lap. Why the fuck would you waste money on a slave crest for something like that when you yourself say "I didn't have the budget for it?" Just seems fucking dumb. If at any point Birb didn't want to listen to Naofumi, he could just sell her. Slave crest is totally unneeded.
So they start off the episode with those not-too-believable things which doesn't set the tone well, but the rest it was just whatever. Like they tried painting a whole canvas with a few drops of paint, covering a lot for a short amount of time, resulting in pretty thin development that wasn't too engaging. This kind of thing is somewhat common in adaptations, but I hope to fuck the next couple episodes don't suffer the same shit.

About filorials, In the WN, they were created by a shield hero of the past. That explains pretty much all the things you think perceive as too convenient. Naofumi later on creates his own unique species which are made from Raphtalia's DNA and look like a mix of a bear and a racoon.
>Just seems fucking dumb. If at any point Birb didn't want to listen to Naofumi, he could just sell her. Slave crest is totally unneeded.
The slave crest is there to make her obey in case she doesn't want to follow orders. Naofumi also got a shield that gives a stat gain bonus to slaves after leveling up so there's no reason to not give a slave crest even to regular party members.
Shield hero isn't the smartest show, the WN was alright, the LN is shorter even when they weird shit to it, the manga is based on the LN's and they cut even more shit, finally, the anime is based on the manga. Sorry for the intrusion. I'm a bit new but nonetheless, I have a question: what's wrong with being a secondary? What's wrong with watching an anime adaptation of a manga or a LN or a WN and just watching the anime? Do "secondaries" cause some kind of problem?

It's that you start making and posting assumptions based on what you've seen, which often end up being off-base; had you just read the source, you'd know better and people wouldn't need to correct you.
But primaryfags will make sure to spoil almost everything several seasons ahead after the first episode, so as long as you read the thread you'll be fine.

The only thing worse than secondaries, is monthlies: faggots who follow mangos over years, one monthly issue at a time.

But isn't it natural to make these off-base assumptions when you don't know everything right off-the-bat?
>had you just read the source, you'd know better and people wouldn't need to correct you.
I sense a slight shift in expectation there.
It sounds like, rather than be expected to just watch the anime as it gets released, week-by-week and evaluate it in that relative vacuum, that because it's an anime adaptation, you're expected to instead be aware of the source material being adapted and to evaluate the anime's quality as an adaptation. I would've presumed that by default, the anime would be evaluated as an anime first and, if it is an adaptation, an adaptation second since this is, after all, an anime board. To fixate on the non-Anime material over the Anime seems odd for an Anime board but perhaps I misunderstood the Anime board. Maybe this place is just a sort of place where people interested in all of this (I don't know how else to put it, pardon me) "Otaku Media" come together with the Anime-onlys being merely tolerated for the liveliness they bring to what would otherwise be a dead board due to too obscure of a topic.

I only follow a handful of manga like that, all of them light on story, but it really does suck. If there's a longer break I completely lose track of what was going on, I can't imagine what people might get from story-heavy shit running for decades.
>>908592
>But isn't it natural to make these off-base assumptions when you don't know everything right off-the-bat?
More or less, but the point is that you could have known better, and yet you still made a stupid post. Really the only actually shit posters are the blatant crossboarders that don't even know shit about anime in general, nevermind the one in question, and yet go on rants about how they know exactly what X anime is like, and it's dogshit.
You shouldn't be sitting on needles worried that someone will call you out for your secondary opinions, I secondaryposted in the Goblin Slayer threads and as it turned out later, I was spot on with my initial impressions. But then I also secondaryposted about how stupid IseSma was, and I was completely off-base there.
>this is, after all, an anime board
By content it's more of a general otaku culture and all Japan-related media board, but anime is the main thing. It's definitely not that anime-only's are merely tolerated, I think most posters on this board are above all else anime watchers, but the anime doesn't automatically take precedence over the source. In some cases it might, but it's not a rule.

The main issue is being a dick about it. Primaryfags are dicks when they clearly go out of their way to spoil people, saying "you should have read the source material". I'm a filthy secondary and the main problem isn't the content, it's the pacing, which directly affects the content as a side issue. This latest episode as an example tried to crush in so much that was tonally different that it failed in its presentation. In the span of a few minutes they try to make the dragon seem like a big deal, tie emotional weight to Filo's "death," callback to Naofumi's rage throughout the season, alarm over Raph's state, etc etc. The tonal shifts happen so fucking fast that there's no buildup and subsequently no weight to them at all.
If you show someone who has never seen DBZ the episode where Frieza or Cell get killed, it doesn't matter to them. They have zero comprehension how powerful either of them are or how big a deal it is to best one of them. It just looks like large flashy explosions and one of them dies, because it hasn't been something that's built up and been established for that viewer. That's what they're doing here. It's what made this dragon fight one gigantic "okay so what?" There was no tension or gravitas at all, so even though I had no idea what would happen this episode, when Filo got eaten I didn't feel anything or even assume that she was gone for good. I'm sure that was done quite properly in the source material, but it flopped here.
Pretty much all the episodes past the 3rd one have been like that.

I am asking too much but who cares. Its still good, but its mediocre good. I mean these days you have to watch shows because they are above absolute shit, but still its sad too see something not living up to its potential. People should really stop making shows based on "well this is generic genreX show so we must make sure everything stays in genericX genre forever!". Why not have some fucking fun with it? Protagonist healing people? Throw some aids and plague doctor jokes. Protagonist suffering from curse of edgelord? Make one or two references to it. I was thinking more a dungeon crawler ala Xanadu or Brandish.

The first few episodes had a rather serious bent to them, which gave the antogonists some real weight. You don't like spearfag because he's an insufferable egotist controlled by his emotions, and you don't like Hime-sama because she's an insidious cunt.
But then things got flipped on their head with the dragon race around the village, and now they've doubled down on that. Spearfag and the Cunt are now officially Naofumi's Team Rocket. Is this how it is in the manga? They went from detestable enemies to be taken seriously to bumbling buffoons who are two steps away from being slapstick comedic relief?
This shit grinds my fucking gears, man. It just undermines the weight and tension of things, why would you do this to your series? Fuck.

Yep, just another isekai. The author probably didn't even realize how dark the premise was looking like.

I wouldn't have any problems with wacky relatively laid back isekai adventures, but when they keep switching back and forth between super serious dark isekai and comical evil antagonist-routine, it becomes pretty shit in both aspects.
No.910939

Yeah, right, you get whiplash from the change in tone. They're opposite ends of the spectrum, you just can't switch something like this. It needs to gradually evolve slowly over time, if it happens at all, and they failed to do that (and I also don't think they should have changed the tone whatsoever). I can't imagine this is just a Nipponese take on cathartic justice being done to people you despise. I mean shit, who even despises them anymore? They're just idiots, the burning rage for them the audience may have had has definitely fizzled away now.

I'm still enjoying the show, but I agree with you. Spearguy and the princess, who were genuinely disgusting and effective villains, have become stupid caricatures. If they wanted to erase some of the tension for a while, they should have tried something different.

This times infinity.
They went from assholes you wanted to slap into adorable goofballs. But it's really hard to get over the fact that they're responsible for transforming naofumi from your average japanese high school boy™ into an edgy autist not once but twice.
Imagine goblin slayer played straight, the rape, the trauma, the violence and then we get a hard cut of goblins doing something cute and funny. Better yet, the sister's rapist becomes a recurring character, that does whacky willie e.coyote hijinks trying to finish off goblin slayer. That's the feeling I get, it really clashes with the general theme and retroactively cheapens many emotional scenes.

>I'm still enjoying the show
You and me both faggot. Isekais are made as cheap wish fulfillment, and retards don't get the fun of a solid power fantasy. Isekai Smartphone really opened my eyes, it's not about delivering some grand story or deep meaningful commentary, it's about watching a dude get a harem and lots of cool power, if things start stagnating add another power and another harem member. It never grows old the same way staring at tits never grows old, it's something primal.

The first episode already completely dropped the ball, but that aside, you could make a really really solid guess that it would be haremshit just from the title and the fact that it's an LN adaptation, let alone things like promo art and genre and synopsis.
There's also nothing inherently wrong with haremshit, though it's almost certainly not going to be good here.

Why not? I am always ready to appreciate a story about a strong hero, surrounded by girls, especially if there are lolis precent. Isekai web novels are perfect in this aspect.
No.911063
>>911058
Because it's not very good at handling the darker aspects so far, and there are darker aspects to the story. If there's ever going to be a scene or an arc where one of the harem girls get kidnapped or threatened or whatever else, it's going to suck, and I'd expect things like that to happen. Some credit goes to the author that we've come this far without it going off the deep end, the average isekai would've fucked itself by now, but still there have been mildly shit moments.

Oh, yeah, Log Horizon I would count. MMO world is still a proper sekai, so getting transported there is still isekai as far as I'm concerned. I don't know if Overlord counts as a harem or counts as good, at least it's probably above average. There's also reich loli, but again questionable if it's good.
Isekai Shokudou and Isekai Izayaka were both good.

This episode could have very easily fit into the last one, it felt like filler.

>Well shit, guess I have brain problems... believe it or not asshole, were you on high school or what? because even in middle school you learn a bit about the consequences of taking down a tyrant without a proper transition.

Well I must admit this episode wasn't as blah as the past 4-5 were. Things actually happened and they kept any comic stupidity to a minimum, playing almost everything straight. Hopefully they spend the next couple episodes or so maintaining uniform tone and plot, they kinda need it to recover from the disjointed rushed mess of the previous several eps.
