 No.888086

Let's duke it out one last time. Who gets the spot for AOTY? The two biggest contenders have both been in this fight before for the lucrative title of AOTS:

In the comfy corner, we've got the anime which has spread the meme "Comfy" all around the internet, drawing in newfags to iyashikei while also keeping the veterans happy. It's kill count includes the Mexican wilderness and otaku wallets. Slurp your Curry Cup Ramen to

YUUUUUUUUUURU CYAAAAAAAAAMP

Pause for applaud.

And straight out of nowhere came a simple, yet powerful story about doing SOMETHING AMAZING that nobody expected. The Pengin are there only to draw in the unsuspecting anon for a spiritual journey about self discovery and the meaning of friendship. Are they going to Antarctica? ZAMA MIROUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!

YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIMOOOOOOOOOIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII

Pause for applaud.

And in the lightweight division we have a three-way match up:

This ambitious newcomer has done what consistent pestering has never been able to. It's turned skeptic anons into devout believers of the idol through the power of necromancy, also reviving the oldfag spirit and memes. THUNDER SNAKE FOR

ZOMBIELaaaaaaaaaaaand SAAAAAAAAAAAAGAAAAAAAAAAAA

Pause for wotagei.

An innocent Love Live-looking powerhouse punched anon in the gut at the end of the first episode and it never stopped pummeling, winning over Japan and anon alike. The end result was a dignified love of theater and appreciation of Takarazuka Revue. Hold on to your bananas before they slip again and again and again and again and.

Shoujo☆Kageki Revue Starlight

Pause for a whole episode until the Revue.

What this anime lacks in 2D animation it makes up for with charm, charm, nostalgia, and charm. It'll fanifoom you to the Japanese 90's while warming your heart and making it rain in front of that game you haven't played in decades. Taking you back to the arcades with a child-like love for your lost passions, it's

HIGH! SCORE! GIRL!

It's going to be a wild ride, just like this year, which has actually overall been great for anime, despite all the shitposting to the contrary I've personally done myself. There were a lot of names I couldn't mention, like HisoMaso, Crybaby, and Franxx.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I hope we have even more fun in 2019.

Just from the titles you listed AOTY is only between Colors and Anima Yell. I would give the nod to Anima Yell right now on the basis of better animation. Konari no Kyuutie should be in your battle royale.

AOTY isn't changing from this season.

1. Sora yori mo Tooi Basho

2. Yuru Camp

3. Revue Starlight

Zombieland is good, but it's definitely not perfect, even my AOTS will go to Seishunbuta instead. And Seishunbuta has its problems, too.

For the CGDCTbowl, Yuru Camp aside, clear winner is Slow Start. Everything else had issues or just simply wasn't all that entertaining to watch, but Slow Start was perfect, only reason it didn't make it to AOTY-class was that we had some yet better shows over the year.

>>888125

I vote for Hanebado. There are always lots and lots of awful shows every season, but it's rare for one to get a very high quality adaptation. Violet Evergarden was the same, except that VEG actually managed to deliver one or two decent episodes. Then again, it was way more popular, too.

 No.888154

>>888125

Kaze Fuiteriu deserves at least a demerit for unironically having niggers. gdMen and DEEN's Junji Ito adaptation also get one for pissing on their respective legacies.

I'd say Dorei-ku is a contender for the worst, being a kuso anime that wasn't even at least entertainingly bad like Ousama Game. But maybe the award for worst anime should collectively be given to isekai for refusing to die even now, long after its peak.

 No.888161

Isekai isn't to blame, it's the fact that Japan has shit taste when it comes to the Fantasy genre. I have found good Isekai. It's out there, it exists. Granted the really good stuff happens to be American Web Novel Isekai, but still, I've found good Isekai Manga as well

This is the part where I say something obnoxious about your taste in anime/waifus/opinions to insight more rage, then we'll devolve into sniping each other with snide remarks and posting smug anime girls trying to out-do one another with how terrible we can be to one another.

And for what? For the right to feel momentarily superior in an anime thread? Because someone posted something in a way you or I didn't like?

Come on man, let's stop this. It's pointless. We're arguing about how the OP is formatting his text, instead of arguing about more important shit: Which fictionally story animated in Japan had the best girls/story/characters/presentation this year?

 No.888171

Which shows had the most disproportionate sales, high and low?

Colors only sold about 600 despite being excellent, but then again it was low-budget to begin with.

HisoMaso sold ~800.

Overlord III sold well over 7000, oddly outselling the second season by a significant margin, and far more than it deserved.

Meanwhile in the same season, Chio-chan moved a miserable 235.

 No.888363

I will probably stay with Amanchu because that worked for me. Don't me ask how it did.

Also, I will divide it in really small part because everytime a think something bad about shows I felt guilt and confuse.

But looking for the "normal" options I had watched:

>Antarctica

Was a great history with good characters but it will not have a lot of rewatch value. Yes, have some strong moments, but you are ready for that.

>Yuru Camp

Was excellent for healing but have good characters and "ok" story.

>Yuru Camp VS South Pole.

The chemistry between characters of "Pingu version of nyanko days" was better than between Yuru Camp but the chemistry between me and the girls of Yuru Camp was better.

>Slow start vs Comics Girls

The strength of slow start is its teamwork while Comics Girls are about the relationship of really great characters. Let say next season their respective would take out both Tama-chan and Kaosu of those shows. While Comics GIrls would lose her strongest point, Slow Start would be deadly hit.

Normally I would say Slow Star would start with advantage (that is true) but Comics Girls would become by better with a season 2 (but become even sooner). But Slow Star hadn't become a stagnant show while Comics Girls had a lot of problems to show its full potential.

>Violent Garden.

I think this show would work by far better if was release everything in once. Was a really slow pace but always left a need the next episode faster as possible. Maybe now would the best time of year to give a try to this anime.

>Zombieland (the underdog)

Zombieland shouldn't be a good show. That should be had a lot of weak points would make it pathetic. But in a true miracle as I see in Kemono Friends those weak points become stronger points like a spell how can end any moment. So I will wait until last epsodie do give position for that.

>winner

So at the moment, I would give the 1st position to Yuru Camp. I had written that characters aren't amazing but I forget of 2 important characters. The Food and THE FUCKING LANDSCAPE OF JAPAN. If wasn't it I think Comic Girls would take 1st place.

>victory?

Sadly, if Zombieland Saga doesn't make a really epic ended, no show will enter in the "classic domain". Those shows are excellent, but they are missing something to make really unique as Kemono Friend was. Those last years we get a lot of excellent shows but become rare to get a singularity between them.

I want a new season of bully to Kaosu.

AOTY:

Hakumei to Mikochi

and a lot of that is cause I give significant weight to unique style. I'm talking about the storybook art direction and emphasis on slightly more grown-up problems than what the girls in Yuru Camp dealt with. Hakumei to Mikochi is one of the strongest examples of "adult moe" that I've seen which is why it's not appropriate to put it in the CGDCTOTY match. Some heavy stuff happens, at least heavier than "waking up too late for school" or "having an annoying maid". Moreover, while Yuru Camp was comfy, but Hakumei to Mikochi took that comfiness and made it tiny. Which, objectively, is cuter. And who among us doesn't want to fuck an inchling? Never cared much for Antarctica girls and High Score Girl and I gave them both a good shot.

Lightweight division:

Zombieland Saga

Sorry, I need copious amounts of comedy to get me through an idol anime which is why it beat Revue for me. Tied with Yuru Camp though.

CGDCTOTY Battle royale:

Asobi Asobase

Maybe cause I wasn't expecting much, but this anime surprised me the most this year. I didn't actually finish anything else on your list except Chio-chan.

Computer scene in antarctic girls in episode 12, Electric Zombie Idols, drawing battle in Asobi Asobase, synchronized kung-fu zombies in Thunderbolt Fantasy's episode 12.

>favorite moment around a series (some meta shit, maybe something about the production or something like that)

I'm still amazed at Thunderbolt Fantasy's puppetry. Sora Yori, Hakumei to Mikochi and Yurucamp's stunning sceneries.

>favorite character(s)

A lot of them, but I'll mention the titty goblin from antarctic girls, Tama-chan, Kaos, Necroducer, Narumi from Karakuri Circus, Shang and Poison Pussy from Thunderbolt Fantasy, and probably more.

>favorite cast/group

Many great groups, for sure. Though comparing them would weird, seeing how they're on different genres, I think. The Colors were adorable little shits, with the older people being good foils or straight men, specially Saito. The inchlings have great chemistry with the other inhabitants. It was refreshing to see a horrible person like Jashin-chan and her interactions with the cast, like beating the shit out of a little yuki-onna loli, getting maimed or squeezing money out of Medusa.

>favorite seiyuu(s)

Yui Ogura because her voice makes me weak with how adorable Kokona (Yama no Susume) sounds, Necroducer's seiyuu did a good job being wacky, but the one that stands out is Hina Kino from Asobi Asobase (Hanako) because of the sheer insanity she portrays, and because of her insane range with her shrieks. Olivia and Kasumi's seiyuu were also incredible.

>favorite OP/ED

THE LAND IS CLOAKED IN DEEPEST BLUE. Yurucamp's ED is incredibly warming. I love the energy in Anima Yell, Zombieland and Slow Start's OPs.

>favorite soundtrack/song in the OST that isn't the OP/ED

That one song in Yurucamp that's a really soothing single guitar.

>favorite recurring moment/gag

Jashin-chan being tortured, Medusa being an ATM (Jashin-chan) Hanako's screeching, the ugly goblin that was the only thing Maeda could draw (Asobi), Tama-chan being a pervert (Slow Start), chair/cheer confusion (Anima Yell), Shirase's infatuation with penguins (Sora Yori), LEGENDARY YAMADA TAE being an idiot, Ellie being a capricious vampire (Tonari no Kyuuketsuki), Colors Blue being called out for being terrible at videogames and Yellow's fixation on poop (Mitsuboshi Colors), drunken inchlings.
