>"As for the Hobbits of the Shire, with whom these tales are concerned, in the days of their peace and prosperity they were a merry folk. They dressed in bright colors, being notably fond of yellow and green; but they seldom wore shoes, since their feet had tough leathery soles and were clad in thick curling hair, much like the hair of their heads, which was commonly brown. Their faces were good-natured rather than beautiful, broad, bright-eyed, red-cheeked, with mouths apt to laughter, and to eating and drinking. And laugh they did, and eat, and drink, often and heartily, being fond of simple jests at all times... They were hospitable and delighted in parties, and in presents, which they gave away freely and eagerly accepted."

Why isn't there an anime like this? Reminds me of TAWOG. You could easily use old school movie tricks to do stuff like moving objects so it's not completely limited in terms of world interaction. You could even use photorealistic 3DCG in special cases if the character needs to extensively interact with something.
No.887534

I'm surprised there isn't too. I mean many anime used slightly edited photos as background art anyway. Just don't edit it as much and you'd have this. Plus end up with a really unique art style.

Because WWII was around the first time black and white photos were easily available and of just the right quality to blur-blend 2D into 3D images. Beforehand cameras were too crappy so you had to decrease the quality of your anime girl images, and afterwards cameras were nice enough that it required additional work to blend 2D into the 3D world which amateurs would be too lazy to do. After WWII society moved heavily towards motion picture as the main media for poor-quality pictures when featured in black-and-white, and colored pictures are much harder to blend with 2D since you have to account more for shading based on the surroundings and other factors that can largely be safely ignored (as evidence by the pictures you posted).
