I feel like Boku Girl needed one more volume to really wrap things up. The ending was still nice, but it felt kind of rushed. I guess the romance angle was sort of the ultimate resolution, but I think it would have been a little nicer to see that final decision play out and how Mizuki and Takeru handled everything.
Any word on anything else being made by the same author? 11 volumes is a respectable run for a small time mangaka and it would be a shame if they didn't get anything else published.

I 100% agree with you. I felt that the fact they got together was satisfying in itself for me, but I’m curious how their relationship went post high-school and dealing with the aspect of accepting himself as a girl (especially since right up to the end nearly he kept telling himself how he wanted to become a guy again. Also I’m a degenerate and wanted Mizuki impregnated.
>Any word on anything else being made by the same author?

I suppose there's something to be said about not rejecting the entirety of all work from China, as there have been some really amazing artists and creators from that massive shitpit... But on average, Chinese comics are just bad. Poorly written. Boring characters. More derivative and poorly conceived than a fat American fangirl's fanfiction. Their average manhua artists are really bad at conveying motion and feeling and impact. Even first-time authors in Japan have a better understanding of the fundamentals of art, while even the Chinese pros tend to create very stiff, very sterile art with extremely bland characters. Something about their culture just demands that their only acts of creativity be based on copying and bootlegging the better works of other cultures.

Sounds like you're talking about the glorious Nippon, anon. They stole the Chinese writing system, called shittily-drawn characters "kana" and then stole everything from the west including tons of English words
No.883693
>>883685
As a base, yes, the Japanese certainly copied pieces of China's writing system and words from English. However, we're not talking about copying in that kind of superficial sense. What we're talking about is how the Chinese seem to lack the deeper creativity and innovation to create new things using what's availible, instead making hollow copies of what already exists. There's no soul to that kind of writing, and that's why Chinese comics tend to be inferior to Japanese ones.
Even if the Chinese and Japanese writing systems have the same base, the Japanese have proved far more adept at using that system to create stories and characters. It's like how the Chinese discovered gunpowder, but Europeans were the first to make full innovative use of it by creating firearms. It boils down to a lack of creativity.

The worst thing about Isekai series is that they have a way of hooking you and making you think that just maybe this time they won't fuck things up.
Picked up "Sokushi Cheat ga Saikyou Sugite, Isekai no Yatsura ga Marude Aite ni Naranai n desu ga" (or, 'Instant Death Isekai' as I'm going to call it) and found it kind of interesting. Whole bus of kids gets isekai'd by some psycho Sage lady who tells them to all go out and become strong, or die, and whoever is the strongest gets to become a Sage. It's got a lot of the videogamey trappings, with levels and experience and people being able to do status menu checks on themselves and others, but the catch is that the MC and his female sidekick don't have these powers at all... But for some reason, MC has the ability to just insta-kill anything by stating his desire for them to die. It hasn't been explained why he has such a power.
It's kind of interesting because MC is weirdly detached from it all, but not entirely reluctant to just murder dozens of people in self-defense. The twist on the whole setting is that the Sages are all outright psychos and the gifts they bestowed on MC's classmates have the side effect of making them all psychos too, which only get worse the more they use and strengthen their powers. There's also been hints that the Sages are Isekai'ing people and creatures from all kinds of different worlds for unknown reasons. Including several of MC's classmates who were Isekai'd to the same world at an early point for different reasons and then returned to their normal lives after slaying a demon king.
So the whole thing is putting twists on a lot of the typical cliches, and doing some different stuff with it. It's not looking like it's going to be a harem series, but more of a mystery worldbuilding series where MC and his one powerless classmate have to figure out what's going on and how things work, while being completely unthreatened by anyone or anything because of MC's cheat power. The big problem is how poorly every character is written. MC is bland and boring. Female classmate is typically panicky and useless. All the people who force MC to use his power are so aggressively evil and dickish, that there's no impact to them dying and barely any need for a reaction to MC just killing them without hesitation.

Aint that the truth. People who write isekai stories seem to have a chronic ability not to be able to keep their shit together and interesting past the first 5 chapters, and if those first 5 chapters are decent it makes you actually want to keep reading. But they are nearly all unanimously shit.

>The worst thing about Isekai series is that they have a way of hooking you and making you think that just maybe this time they won't fuck things up.
That's because isekai is great for starting a story. It's the quintessential fish out of the water story, so the first few chapters are usually decent because it's an acceptable exposition jerkoff for a world that's usually at least mildly interesting. Then the intro chapters end, the manga has to ride on it's characters like any other and all it has is bland mc with a generic harem on a cliched plot.
Ride-on king is the best straight isekai so far mainly because the author knows what the fuck he's doing.

So far there are about 3 others that is worth a read but one of them is already over and was made before the isekai fad so it hits all the same notes and after every update it gets buried and forgotten until it rises from the grave for another release, the next one simply had nobody translating it until just a few months ago after it was dropped (the uber powered blue/gold haired angel genderbending one), and the last one goes into a full repetition of going in and out of "love of Japanese food" phase and traumatized necromancer shota with a muscle whore fetish but the feels it hits you with makes up for that.
The Otome variant seems fresh but they are all already set into a formula already, it just takes longer for the "moment" when it goes to shit. You can even tell how it's going to progress based purely on what the heroine looks like.

And for those who care(which other than myself is probably pretty slim), Viz is now releasing most chapters in english jump a day early with the most popular series being released same day(night) as Japan. They are also opening up their entire archive to subscribers so you can read everything they have.
Which would be nice since Viz does translate everything in WSJ they don't put it all in English jump. However they have a 100 chapter a day limit for paying subscribers so even if I wanted to sit down and read Gintama or Saiki I would barely be able to touch the surface before the reader goes into time out until 0800 JST. There is no way to opt out of this, so basically if you paid for a subscription VIZ is saying
>fuck you, we got your money nigger
And are giving you something completely different than what you paid for. You have no recourse, you aren't getting your money back, and fuck you gweilo you are going to take it and like it.

Maken X Another
I kinda happened to learn about the existence of Maken X (Maken Shao on PS2), a game that's best described as Persona by the way of Ghost in the Shell. It's got art direction by Kazuma Kaneko and everything. I'd generously describe it as a game of good ideas, but this post isn't about that. It's about the manga adaptation.
The mangaka knows he's not Kaneko and doesn't really try to imitate his artstyle. So he went for a different, more grotesque approach. It technically follows the game's plot but heavily changes it so the protag girl remains the one in action (in the game, you switch bodies and the heroine stays in your mind, talking to you in cutscenes). So yeah, it's pretty much another take on the same story, with a healthy serving of guro. Make of that what you will.

Has Beastars been discussed on here?
It's absolute Edgy Furshit. I mean, to give it mild credit where it's due, it's somewhat better than American Furshit. Not by much, but still.
Typical premise for the genre, Edgy Zootopia: Anthro Carnivores and Herbivores live alongside each other, and there's a lot of political bullshit/pseudoracism involved.
Main character is a giant wolf, who falls in love with a bunny, which the author describes as a loli facsimile.
It takes a very cliche route, full of melodrama, and will probably end as a bittersweet tragedy. It's basically Furry Romeo and Juliet written by Japan.
I honestly can't remember why I started reading this thing, probably because the idea of a furry manga seemed too bizarre to ignore. I can't recommend it, as it's not bad enough to mock, nor is it good enough to ignore the fact that it's furshit.
Really, all that's notable about it is that it's Japanese Furshit, which is bizarre enough to make mention of here, and probably get a few (you)'s telling me to kill myself.

I mean, there's some interesting bits, A deer, the story's main antagonist, becomes a Mafia Leader for a bunch of lions, and he would have a mildly interesting Arc, but it's mired under the fact that everything has this Melancholy Melodrama to it. If it were more well-written, It would put me in mind of Shakespearean tragedy. As-Is, it's more like a Furry who was a Drama student in High School wrote his own version of Romeo and Juliet. It's too full of itself, but in the "I'm a Drama Major" way, not in the conventional "Yiff 4 Lyfe" way that furshit usually is.

Not true at all. In Keyman much of the cast was beastfolk, including the MC and his wife, and nobody complained about that. I got a very different impression.
Her focus on the waifu was this "Love Caused Slave" thing, which to me, screams that level of weeb where you're viewing anime through this context of having watched/read a lot of anime. She's focused on the trope-defiance and the new takes on cliches. Stuff like what Zombieland is doing with its fair awareness of the Idol lifestyle, but also a love of it.
Kitagawa is basically an earnest weeb, who "gets" the otaku/Sperg lifestyle, where you can be obsessed with your hobby. MC is a Doll-maker whose love of dolls is meant to be a stand-in for whatever hobby you enjoy. Then the rest is basically a series of trope aversions.
>Guy has defined interests and common sense
>Guy has a modicum of self-control, even in Ecchi situations. He's embarrassed, but only the "normal" amount.
>Guy has poor social skills, but it's generally due to lack of exposure, and he demonstrates a fine amount of common sense in such situations.
>MC has Common Sense. Is neither aware or unaware of the romantic interest he's getting close to.
>Girl falls for the guy first.
>All characters have clearly defined interests and an earnest love for the things they do.
Last one is actually the theme of the series, saying hey, there's girls out there that GET it, they're just as autistic as you. Even more so, her whole thing with the Willing Slave is probably going to be used to show that she recognizes the separation of hobby and IRL. The series starts off very tight, with the author obviously knowing what story she wants to convey, and what world she wants to describe.
In one interview she claims she has been working on this since college days, so you can see the effort.
Yet somewhere halfway through the lion arc, it gets increasingly weaker in terms of pacing and worldbuilding that right now it's barely a slice of life. The main cast, which had depth, has been flanderized into retardation, and their actions follow fanservice over logic.
The whore bunny and the sperg wolf had an interesting relationship that mirrored teenage affections and insecurities. Now it's gone full spanish telenovela mode because the rabbit saw the wolf talk with her neighbour and MISUNDERSTOOD. Never mind that up till now she's been the school bicycle. She's now full virgin modo again.
The elite deer suddenly hooks up with the wolfgirl who had the hots for the autist wolf. Despite her being a wolf nationalist and lusting after autismwolf's knot every other scene. A few words exchanged as long friends means they must now want to fuck hard
All the worldbuilding I've been gushing over has died out very fast. What's more, the characters arcs are not developed because of this.
Deer joins lion yakuza, we never get any explanation of how the criminal underworld works or how he's supposed to change his organization for the best. Nothing he does really challenges him or his belief system, the most he gets to do is look very cool wearing a suit and eating deer meat then vomiting like a bulimic girl.
Some arcs still retained the original feel, like the bear murderer one, which makes me think that they were something the author carried over from her college days. But that doesn't matter as they end in a very dumb way, like the bear murderer arc itself.
It's a shame because this was really promising at the beginning which made me even look over the furry aspect of it.

They've hinted at Ippo being much stronger now than before even without going to the gym so maybe they want to make him go the same route as Date Eiji (retire for 4-6 years and then come back, regain his strength and challenge the world once again) but the problem with that is how utterly slow the pacing is. I do not understand the appeal of a series like this at all. It's just baffling to me. Who wants a series of nothing but people getting used then put aside?
If you want lewds alone, why not go for actual porn with none of the baggage? If you want plot to give context to sex, then why would you choose a plot like this instead of romance? If you want lots of appealing characters you can get attached to, then why would you want them to end up in this kind of situation, getting fucked to tick a box and then dropped for the next one?
This whole premise sounds LESS appealing than a normal harem.

Trope Defiance, honestly.
Harem where the MC actually has Sex? Girls are marginally more defined than Fetish of the week?
You read enough manga and it starts being about finding something that does something with the genre that hasn't been done before. Dropping it when it fails to be good and/or scratch that itch.
I've got the same problem with Isekai, and have actually managed to find a fairly substantial number of Isekai you could classify as good.
Also there's the fetish primarily associated with /tg/, which can be summarized in pic.

>Harem where the MC actually has Sex? Girls are marginally more defined than Fetish of the week?
Of course I understand wanting those, but not like this.
The biggest problem with harems is the indecisiveness. The MC just lets status quo go on instead of making a decision. Reading it and saying to yourself "Just fuck her already!" is only a symptom of that. If he fucks the harem but still doesn't make a decision, then it doesn't solve anything, and once he DOES make a decision it just makes things worse for everyone but the winner.

I was not defending Minamoto-kun in any way. It started ok, went to shit. End of story.
I was more explaining the mentality that goes into starting to read that series in the first place.
Now, if you want good harem manga that has good resolution, Jitsu Wa Watashi Wa. Best goddamn Harem manga there is, for two major reasons:
It's a Harem Comedy that remembers that Comedies are supposed to be funny, and all the characters get good arcs, good development, and are genuinely a joy to see interacting.

Is there more Post-RomCom Cuteness manga out there?
Besides the one that immediately pops to mind, but I can't remember the name of. The one that's a spinoff about their daughter and their home life.

Jitsu Wa also gets significant credit for actually continuing after they get together. A lot of romances, including non-harems, end the moment the main couple gets together. Jitsu Wa must have had at least a quarter of the manga taking place after they started actually dating.

Takagi-san had a spinoff like that, but I'm not too keen on it. They don't sell me on being a couple that has married, settled down, and started a family.

Thanks, that was bugging me. Yeah, it's not as good as their relationship in the manga. I feel like the spinoff will get better as the relationship in the original gets more development, hits a few milestones.

Usually in romance mangas the man is a good guy that you feel deserves the cute girl. But that Takagi spinoff just makes him feel so paranoid that it just turned me off to the whole thing. It was like he went through every chapter going, "HOLY SHIT WHAT IS MY CUNT WIFE GOING TO DO TO ME TODAY?"

At this point, minamoto is closer to the TWOGK formula of girl of the week than a real harem, except that you know the guy is fucking with the girls for selfish reasons like getting laid and pleasing his aunt so it leaves a sour taste.

At this point I've even stopped thinking "your mother should do you a favour and just croak already" and gone past it to "I hope you have to stay taking care of your mother's decaying almost-carcass until you're too old to do anything else with your life".
Assuming it's not just an excuse he tells himself to stay a NEET.

He chose objectively worst girl just because she was the first character to be introduced along with him, and after establishing far better and more fitting girls. This manga is everything that's wrong about harem, and you praise it ? You are an animal.
