It's been a while! I remember, about three or four years ago, how we had a thread here on /a/ about just hopping on Google Street View on a completely random Japanese city or location and getting lost, taking screenshots of the places we saw, and judging whether it was cute or not. I remember that some of the places I saw in a completely random city called Morioka would eventually come to define my first trip to Japan. At the time, I thought I'd never go to Japan, and yet, when I had the chance, I took the time to go to those random Street View places.

Maybe this will inspire you to do the same. So, what I want you all to do, is to go on to Google Street View or your equivalent street view site and just drop yourself in a random place that isn't Tokyo or Osaka. Explore around, take screenshots, and tell us about it. Find cute spots, find interesting things, and just say things about it.

To start, I dropped in a random place that turned out to be just north of Kyoto. It's by Kurama Shrine on the Eiden, so you can visit it with a good day trip out on a train and bus. Or you can drive there, it's all good. It seems like a comfy drive, at the very least. I do want to visit Kyoto again, but the outskirts in particular. The mountains around Kyoto seem almost mystical to me, so it'd be a nice experience. Just watch out for the traffic cameras.

What interesting place have you found, /a/? What can you tell us about it?

Looks like I got landed in a hot air balloon floating over a campsite a bit south of Mt.Sobo, in the town of Takachiho. Giving me Yuru Camp vibes.

>each camping van parking space has its own little bathroom stall.

neat.

Funny, I used to do this on my own not too long ago. I found it really hard to find anywhere that didn't look really photogenic. The last 3 pics I found at complete random. Either jewgle deliberately puts you in a nice-looking spot when you street view from a distant view or Japan really is 2.5D.

How do I take screenshots without the UI?

This seems a bit bizarre. Rather than going along the trail in this field, the driver is driving on the grass through the field and gets out to pull up the plugs to drive back onto the trail.

I guess Akiba's Trip is relevant to the thread. It's pretty much "Interactive street view tour through Akihabara: The Vidy/a/".

In Firefox, you can just delete them with inspect element under right click menu

Clean Nippons even have brooms in their bus stops.. If that is a bus stop.

It's 2.5D only in the rural areas. The large cities are clean and peaceful. But the actual cityscape itself is pretty much the same as any other soulless metropolitan meatgrinder. Only difference being a lot of neat little shrines and temples tucked away in the nooks and crannies. Which, not surprisingly are pretty much the only things people take photos of.

About the rural though. Japan has such amazing natural scenery, partially due to its relatively mild climate with heavy rainfall. Because it's so mountainous, the only places to build civilization are at the base of mountains and valleys. This ends up in a situation where all the rural towns are surrounded by forest backstops which gives you that classic hugged by nature feeling to the photos.

Decided to check out the fabled Cat Island Aoshima. An island that was largely abandoned after the war and the cat popular there flourished on their own. Since its largely populated by stray cats it was converted as tourist attraction and is what keeps the cats alive. Place looks like something out of Higurashi and would make for a good horror setting.

Also saw a completely neglected forest trail that seems to span the entire island. After a while it becomes spooky as there are graves randomly strewn about.
