 No.871606

>>871596

There's no need to pretend. The show was mediocre except for those few great scenes and the whole of episode 15. The production values were off the fucking chart, which I believe was a huge factor in the show's success. Same with the OP/ED and voice acting. Honestly, if the story hadn't been so god damn bad, the anime would've been amazing.

 No.871612

Form watching a lot of anime and reading a lot of manga, it seems the Japanese almost get off on the act of not explaining the everything when stuck in a problematic situation.

 No.871617

>>871612

It's simply the sign of an incompetent writer. The general audience doesn't pick up on it, or less frequently doesn't care (ie. harem romcoms), but in Re:Zero it was obvious that the writer was shit from just 2-3 episodes. Any actually well written work will avoid using stupid misunderstandings and under-explaining for the sake of stalling the plot, or rather, just won't stall the plot to begin with.

Hating something because of the hivemind is always dumb. I certainly enjoyed many parts of it. Then again, I have shit taste and these two were my favourite characters.

That being said, I'll never truly love the series. The MC is unlikeable for various reasons and the gimmicks really don't work for a long running series.

Angsty turbo-pussies are not fun to read about, clever sociopaths are. This is a running theme through almost all literature, and your WN turned LN turned Anime started primarily as an attempt at literature.

Re:Zero rates worse as a romance than it does as an Isekai, even. The way it is written and the story elements heavily imply that it is a thriller first, with Isekai and Mystery components in good measure to enhance and season the thriller (with varying degrees of success). Sure, romance is used as a driving excuse for Subaru's choices, but it's done in a ham-fisted way that merely bridges the gap between episodes of thriller content. In other words, romance is the story's filler, so it makes total sense that it's garbage, relies on the reader's presupposed notions of how a romance "should read", and develops in an uninteresting and utterly predictable direction totally unsuitable for a story trying to evoke feelings of suspense and confusion.

If it was just that, then I'd be ok with him. When he got called out for his weaknesses in the later part of the animu was actually some of the better moments.

What I truely hate is how much he switches between personalities to act however it fits the story. It feels unreal at times, as I was reading multiple characters. At least decide on his basic personality beforehand? Is he a HikiNEET? A charismatic fellow, that can just chat up with anybody? A nervous wreck that can break at any moment? Some pseudo streetfighter, that can just casually beat up multiple buff/armed thugs? A wisecracking idiot that never get's his teeth punched in for his smartass bullshit? Seems like the author could never decide on that.

 No.872511

>>872464

I don't like things that bore me, either. I guess you could call that "being made uncomfortable", but it's definitely not the kind of disquiet you're implying. In fact, some people seek out that sensation deliberately. If the story is good and well-delivered, that becomes a genre unto itself, generally referred to as a "Psychological" and usually mixed with horror or thriller content. Of the many things Re:Zero tries to be, that is not one of them.

My favorite 'serious' novel to be translated or in translation to date is Apartment for Rent, which is exactly that type and does supply all the discomfort you're projecting onto Re:Zero. Unfortunately, I can't derail too hard on that topic, since it's Chinese.

>>872505

I think Re:Zero's reception was the straw that broke the camels back on "giving Isekai good production value". Studio's fault for hopping on a sinking ship.

>>872511

>I think Re:Zero's reception was the straw that broke the camels back on "giving Isekai good production value".

This right here.

I saw all the huge fuss about the series and I finally decided to watch it this year.

And then there was nothing. It's just the exact same isekai that comes out by the dozens every season, except that the studio behind it decided the anime should have lot of money pumped into its production. And while you can lessen a problem by throwing more money at it, you can't solve it, and re:zero is still a random shitty isekai. The worst of it all was Subaru having cringy, nonsensical and annoying rants all the time.

Some exceptionally nice girls in the anime, though. Most random isekai doesn't have even that, and re zero put out some extremely good ones.

The anime wasn't bad enough that I dropped it, but I can't say I that I was hooked on it. I watched everything, and didn't feel like I'd care for a new season. Maybe if one day I wake up in an Emilia or Ram mood, in an alternative universe where it gets a season 2, I would skim through the episodes for the scenes with them

 No.872542

>>872530

I liked the first couple of episodes and I still think it could have been an interesting subversion of the isekai power trip if Hyundai fled when rem/rom/ram gave him the chance instead of just deciding that he was gonna try real hard and get the good ending. I kind of stopped paying attention after that point, something about going for the elf-witch over the onimeido for some half-baked reason and a whale.

It was definitely massively overrated however you slice it though.

That's not the issue here. Re:zero is a romantic story in the same manner Frankenstein is a romantic story, as in it is a story primarily about emotions and the struggle of the individual. Coming into Re:zero and then whining about how the Protagonist isn't some sociopathic power gamer who has no personality like in your favorite korean web novels is like walking into a japanse sushi restaurant and then complaining that there is too much sushi in it. It's nonsensical.

>The witch is using Subaru to get close to all her mortal enemies, and will dispose of him in the end and ascend to the throne/godhood

The witch is probably the most powerful being in the world and even though she's "dead"/imprisoned she's still fucking with time itself.

spoilers:

She knows subaru from before somehow, (he's probably the sin of pride or the ancient hero or both). She's gone mad from the witch gene, and subaru promised to kill her sane form. Her witchgene psycho form is madly in love with him and is bringing him towards her by manipulating his savepoints she probably wants to be freed from her living coffin so she can be a psycho bitch forever, her normal version wants to be el deado. She killed all the other witches who are regarded each as immensely powerful in their own right, and every witch has an obsessive personality trait that warps their logic and worldview (envy tries to trick subaru into being her guinea pig for eternity since he can show her infinite versions of reality, also she knows he can return by death because of undead witch shenanigans).
