Sailor Moon was always pretty traumatizing to the heroes. Ever since the beginning Usagi just wanted to be a normal girl. Even in her past life that's what she wanted. She thought V was cool but when she was put in her shoes, she just cried about wanting to go home. The real reason why Rei attends a catholic school is because her politician father sent her there, and in Japan it is stereotypical for private schools to be catholic. This stereotype ended being a cliche in many manga. Related fun fact, before Sailor Moon and Sailor V, Naoko Takeuchi worked on Maria, a Shoujo series that takes place at a Catholic school. Futhermore, her being there is meant to illustrate her father's disconnect from her in more ways than one because he is a typical never around father trope character.
