I'm just glad they didn't skimp on the educational parts. Although they skipped the acquisition of a tattoo. The bit about "spring is the women's season" comes after that.

We got quite a lot of Tsurumi this first episode.

It looks like they are just going to skip the bear fight.
No.871218
What a fun episode and that new OP is hinna as fuck.
No.872975
Since they skipped Shiraishi's backstory, I'm going to assume they will skip the Ainu village as well.
We at least got so see a young Hijikata.
No.872979
>Young Shinpachi is cast as Gintama's Hijikata while young Hijikata is cast as Gintama's Kintoki
Why? Why didn't they just cast Nakai as Hijikata? He has over 10 years of experience as Hijikata.
Old Hijikata's VA played a villain that fought against Hijikata in Gintama, so you'd have Hero and Villain in one anime voicing the same character that the hero was based on. Did they just not do it because it would be too obvious of a fanservice?
No.872988
>>872979
I'm not familiar with Gintama, but I think the VA choice for old Hijikata is a very nice fit.
Nakai sounds way too young.

I was talking about him as young Hijikata. Gintama ended last cour so Hijikata's voice talking to Hijikata sounds weird.

Odd decision. I still wonder if they got influenced by Koito's monkey spirit.

No.877534

No.877535
It seems we will be skipping bear sex.
No.877560
So, with 6 episodes to go that leaves us with:
>Bonny & Clyde
>steamy bara action + allusion to impending drama in Abashiri between Asirpa and Kiroranke
>furfaggotry
>the blind bats
>Abashiri break-in
>prison break
I'm well prepared to get blown the fuck out again with my predictions, just like last season.

I must say I only jumped on this show about a week ago and am really enjoying it. I can't say anything about the manga but this in anime form feels like a better paced Jojo season 3 to me.

I hard dropped the show when I saw screenshots of the first episode with a CG bear. How is it quality wise? It actually doesn't look that bad in the more recent screenshots.
No.880851
>>880846
The first season was pretty riddled with Q U A L I T Y, but it seems that the second season has been granted a larger budget which has significantly reduced the amount of Q U A L I T Y.
The CGI is almost entirely gone for the second season so far, but that is subject to change in accordance with how much cash they're burning.

I think it started gaining traction in Japan when it stopped being forest antics and became a sort of historical "wild west" piece about Hokkaido. They've only really colonized the island since the 1800s/considered it a frozen hellscape for most of Japanese history, so Hokkaido is very much to Japan what "out west" is to Americans. I know at least in Sapporo, there were advertisements for it on every subway car. I know the show really tuned in to my "wild west but in Japan" vibes when they started entering colonial towns during season 1.
